If you leave the resolution to Auto, it will switch back and forth between 1080p and 4K. My Roku4 supports 30Hz and 60Hz but not 24Hz -- I believe the same is true for the newer Roku Ultra.

That?s not what I meant.

I want the device to play e.g. 60Hz content with 60Hz and 24Hz (23.9xx) content with 24Hz and so on.

You can configure the ATV to work like that, I think it?s called ¡°match framerate¡± in the English GUI.

Dolby Vision isn?t a real issue since we?re integrating 90% projectors that don?t support DV anyway.

Re: AppleTV vs. RoKu

I recommend getting the Roku Ultra as it has an Ethernet jack on it.

I have an older Roku 4K player and it has a "find my remote" button on the top of it which is very handy.? It also has a microphone button on the remote which works very well.

I have had issues with the AppleTV locking up every so often and only pulling the power cable will bring it back to life.

I don't believe I've ever had an issue logging in.

I haven't tried a recent Roku device (the last one I used was the MHL enabled Roku Streaming Stick), but based on what I have used, I prefer the UI on the AppleTV.? If Roku has updated their user interface significantly over the last few years, I could very well be swayed to prefer the Roku interface.

The issue I have with Dolby Vision with older systems is the AppleTV says it will check your system and will automatically switch back to non - Dolby Vision if it cannot do it.? The issue is it doesn't automatically switch back.

Yes the Roku supports 4K/HDR.? However, I found that Netflixs sometimes said you are streaming 4K HDR however if you it your info button on the TV remote, it is actually streaming 1080p HDR instead.?? I didn't even think you could do 1080P HDR before I saw this.? No issues with Amazon Prime playing 4K.

The Roku supports Dolby Atmos however I am not sure if Netflix and Prime supports it.

Many more channels for the Roku and the user interface is superior IMHO.? While both AppleTVs and Rokus do lock up occasionally, in my experience, the AppleTVs? tends to lock up a lot more.?

And back a few years ago, there were quite a few issues with the spinning wheel of death when attempting to stream a movie on an AppleTV whereas there was no issue streaming the same content on a Roku.? Apple however seems to have fixed this issue for the most part.

One of the common issues I see with the AppleTV is loss of user log in.? However, when you attempt to log in, it says the username/password is incorrect even if it is correct.? In the end, if you reboot the AppleTV, it will then accept the username/password.

And like someone else mentioned, you have codes to go directly to a particular channel with Roku.

Another common issue I see with AppleTV is it pops up with a message saying "I see you can do Dolby Vision".? If you allow it to do that, it may go off into never never land and requires a reboot to get the picture back.

About the only advantage of the AppleTV is the ability to do AirPlay and play iTunes music and movies.? And of course, the general false impression that Apple is a superior product.

And while on the topic of iTunes, I have several clients that are quite ticked off with iTunes.? You used to be able to download a local copy of all your iTune musics at a push of a button -- but no more.? And while you can select multiple songs at the same time and download it that way, if the client has a large iTunes library, it crashes with a message that an "unknown error" has occurred.? And then there is the issue where Apple pulls music from iTunes and you can no longer download or even play it -- even if you paid for it.? And of course, Apple doesn't offer a refund for the purchase music that is no longer available.? The whole cloud thing is not cracked up to what they promise.

I guess you can surmised by now that I recommend the Roku over that AppleTV any day.

Don't request Crestron provided files here.

In SIMPL, I see the referenced IR drivers under:

Crestron Devices > User Devices > Crestron DB > by Manufacturer > Comcast > DVR

If you don't see them, you may need to upgrade to a newer Crestron Database.

The Xfinity boxes still have IR control. Search the database under IR for Comcast. There are two IR drivers there, one has DVR functions, the other does not. The tricky part is finding the IR receiver window on the cable box, but it is there.

I just tried uploading the demo program that comes with the module and it still has the same error.?

Re: Latest Simpl release yesterday.

Ok, I've got a quick hack set up for compiling USP files from Windows
Explorer. It involves editing the registry and making changes to file
associations and blah blah blah, but hey, I made a script for it.

Download that, follow the instructions, right click and compile the night away.

For more detailed info, it creates a small batch file on your hard
drive to compile, then pause so you can see the output. Sadly the only
way I could make it pause. Then it updates the file association for
CrestronSplus files and adds more commands pointing at this script
file. Bonus, I even fixed the icon and "Open" command to use the
SIMPL+ editor instead of SIMPL Windows (like it has done FOR AT LEAST
THE LAST 11 YEARS HOLY CRAP CRESTRON CAN YOU NOT FIX THAT SHIT?!).
There are a couple other registry files that remove the context items
if you don't want them anymore, and one that fixes if you changed the
association thing from the properties menu like I did because you were
tired of USP files opening with SIMPL Windows. If you did that, you'll
have to import that registry file.

I ran into similar issues. Simpl+/Simpl# modules not compiling. Called Crestron. Lots of head scratching later I just rolled back.

Re: Crestron Home OS3 setup

Hi Micah,

I found they are using the resful APIs for control and not the legacy TCP based control .? ?As soon as I realized that I switched back to port 80 and everything started working.? ?In further review of the SONY documentation they mentioned sending the pre-shared key in the HTTP header which made me think I bet the Crestron default of 80 was right.??

Thank you so much for your help.
