Definitely try using a cable with only the correct pins connected. Also try flipping pins 2 and 3 (or use a null modem adaptor to try this) e.g. try both 2-2 / 3-3 and 2-3 / 3-2 since I¡¯ve seen the

It does make something like smart graphic extenders in Simpl. That's mainly what it's for, using signal names in Simpl instead of join numbers
