Re: Topics in Home Automation - New Article in Residential Tech Today
开云体育Hmm.? I started working on this article back in December.? I swear at that time I found some wider shades tan I can find now.? I actually found one that is 48" wide, not 40 as you found.? Not sure if I made a mistake, Ikea discontinued some models with the new year, or if there is some other issue such as some European models that aren't available here. Re: Topics in Home Automation - New Article in Residential Tech Today
The reality is that there is not a great deal more work to install these shades than if you were ordering custom shades online and then installing them yourself.? In both cases you have to start with very careful measurements of your window and the final installation is the same.? The only difference is the work to custom cut the shade to the correct width.? I've done both and it really wasn't much extra work to install these shades compared to ones that were custom made.

In addition, if I was doing all the shades in a home, the time to install each shade would get shorter and shorter as I became more and more familiar/comfortable with the process. Jay On 4/9/2025 1:12 PM, Eric Luckart via groups.io wrote:

At least they didn't make it look easier than it is. Thanks, Jay |

While I'm getting the online version of the article updated, here is the correct link to the installation video:

Autonomic M5Pro Integration
Is anyone aware if these new autonomic media servers integrate as seamlessly as the old ones?? Do we still access the web gui and enter IPID and processor information to connect and get online, then just use CRPC joins on media object?? I do not see the specific device to add to my program, wondering if I can just add it as an MMS-5?? Or do these not integrate the same way the E series did?
?
Thanks in advance. |

Topics in Home Automation - New Article in Residential Tech Today
开云体育Smart motorized shades
are a valuable addition to a smart home.? However, a consumer
has only had two choices when choosing shades:
1) Off-the-shelf
shades that have limited options and typically won't fit your
window.
2) Custom shades that
include a wide range of fabric choices, are custom cut to
exactly fit your window, and come with a premium price tag.
SwitchBot's new Roller
Shade bridges the gap between these 2 choices.? While SwitchBot
currently only offers their Roller Shade with a single fabric
choice, the shade can be custom fit by the homeowner to exactly
fit their window.? My latest article looks at this new shade
option for smart home owners in detail.

Re: Programmatic Control of Reserved Joins
***WARNING BEFORE YOU MAKE ANY CHANGES*
**BACKUP ANY FILE INVOLVED*** **THIS MEANS CONFIG FILES AND PROJECT FILES **THIS IS FOR TESTING PURPOSES ONLY**** ****NEVER USE THIS ON A LIVE SYSTEM This procedure will allow you to add the "setup" command to Simpl. However, it's crucial to understand the risks involved. By making these changes, you could inadvertently prevent your project file from opening in the future. Here's an example of how I learned this lesson: Years ago, while working on a project with Prodigy processors, Crestron limited the number of touch panels to six. However, my project required eight panels. I was familiar with the .tio files at the time, so I decided to add a new panel. I copied the PTL4 configuration, making only the necessary changes to names and reference numbers. Then, I modified the PMC2 to support the new panel type on all Ethernet slots. This worked perfectly at first, and I completed the project successfully. However, a year later, when I revisited the project to make updates, the file failed to open. It crashed with an obscure error. Fortunately, I had documented the changes I made and kept a copy of the .tio files. Without those, I would have had to start from scratch. In the instructions below, I’m referencing an existing item in the file instead of creating a stripped-down version with just the setup button. This approach reduces the risk of encountering the issue I faced after a database update. If you still wish to proceed, here’s how to do it: Backup the following file: C:\Program Files (x86)\Crestron\Cresdb\Programming\symlib2.tio Edit the file using a text editor (e.g., Notepad++). Locate the following lines (current database lines 433947 & 433948): Helpers=465,633,7132,7133,7134,7135,7136,7137 Helpers6=465,633,3020,7132,7133,7134,7135,7136,7137 Modify these lines by adding ,5967 at the end of each one, so they look like this: Helpers=465,633,7132,7133,7134,7135,7136,7137,5967 Helpers6=465,633,3020,7132,7133,7134,7135,7136,7137,5967 This will allow you to add the TSW System Reserved Joins Extender to the Crestron Go definition. Within this extender, you’ll find the Enter Setup join, which will exit the project and return you to the project selection page. Optional: If you prefer, you can remove ,5967 from the lines after adding the extender, should you wish to revert the change. Proceed with caution, and always keep backups in case something goes wrong. |
CP3 FW
Hi All,
I have not been updating CP4's to the latest FW versions as, though I don't use the HomeKit features, I have no confidence that there will be other issues related to the HK/OpenSSL that will bite me...?
Thus I've paused at the xxx_2.8003.00056.01.puf firmware for 4-series.
?
Regarding 3-series (CP3 primarily) I have paused at the xxx_1.8001.0251.puf Firmware.
The latest 3-series version is xxx_1.8001.0295.puf.? release notes don't mention anything about the HK/OpenSSL issue so I'm assuming that this is not an issue with this platform.
?
Can others chime in about your use/dis-use and experience with this FW version?
?
TIA!

Re: Lutron QSX firmware update broke modules?
Was this ever resolved?
?
I am having a different issue with Comms with a currect QSX install that's been going for 3 weeks.?
?
It seems just fine on the Crestron side - I don't see any dropouts while debugging.
?
BUT Lutron is saying there are errors in communication sometimes and blaming it on the Crestron AV3 + Control Concepts 1.3 modules.
?
Theu may be full of it. Anyway here is LUTRON's assessment: " Thank you for the clarification! This definitely gives us an answer of what is happening here. It looks like the issue is stemming from the Crestron side, as the disconnects from the .80 address are showing the disconnect being unexpected with the error: Connection reset by peer.?
?
In one of the timestamps we have from the logs:
On?4/4?at 14:22 we see a successful login from the address using username SoundSight
?
On?4/4?at 15:41 the connection is read as disconnected with the error from above.
?
We're also seeing earlier on in the logs (4/4?at 14:01) times of it disconnecting and failing a TLS handshake with a timeout error."

Re: Crestron Home RAVA issues
The ringtone is crap. Definitely watching this thread to see if anybody comes up with a way to replace it... I'm thinking there might be another way to trigger an interrupt with logic and then tie that interrupt to one of the dozen or so additional ringtones that are exposed for the purpose of general alerts.?
?
We used to always run door control relay wires from the processor but the 2n home module (from LCD UK I believe) has come a long way... Since it is classified as a door lock in Crestron home I would think and hope and pray but not be surprised if this was not the case.. that you could set it up in 2 so when the doorbell is pressed it simultaneously rings and triggers virtual switch number four, then program the action on Crestron home side triggered from the switch 4 event to register as a door opening and that would expose the additional interrupt sounds...?
?
Course for the homeowner they probably would not love seeing the text notification that a virtual door is open while some stranger is ringing the doorbell... But if it's for your own system it just might work. Best I can do while bored in traffic...? |
