Yeah, the first Roombas weren't smart enough to figure out that your puppy left something on the floor that should not be vacuumed up, if you know what I mean. We learned the hard way LOL

Re: Trying to Understand Crestron Gateways. Helped Needed please!!!

If your system is just for watching TV and streaming video then personally I don¡¯t see value in a 2-way remote.? However, if your system includes an audio source for listening to music and that audio source provides 2-way feedback then things are different.? You may be able to choose from different playlists, browse a music library, etc. with a 2-way remote.? A 2-way remote is also a better option if you want to use it as a whole house controller to adjust thermostats, turn on/off lights, etc. ?

It depends on what components are in your A/V system and what your goals are for whole house control

That being said do you think one of the new Gateways controlling 3 MLX's remotes in a home three levels over 3200 sq feet will not suffice and I will be disappointed compared to my ML set up right off the start?? And end up needing 2 more Gateways?

Re: Looking to find a way to add a string prefixing another string. #simpl #http

If you're trying to make HTTP requests, it's a little more complicated.? See?

Appending strings is not straightforward in SIMPL, but a small SIMPL+ module can easily do it with makestring().

Howdy, this would be my first post on here. I'm not familiar with the "manners" of these posts, so I apologize in advance.?

I'm new to Crestron programming and I know enough to look at a program and modify it but not create a new one from scratch. Currently I'm working on controlling a Yamaha RX-V679 AVR. There isn't any controls for this particular model in the Crestron Database or Market and I'm working with the Yamaha Extended Controls Documentation to do IP Control. I'm using a Serial I/O with the commands, I just want to try adding the http portion of the string by "prefixing" it in front of (for example) "/YamahaExtendedControl/v1/Main/SetInput?input=hdmi5". Looking to use "HTTP://{tcp/ip client}:{port}/" and add it in front of the string. I tried using the Delimiter in the serial I/O, however it was adding the string after "/YamahaExtendedControl/v1/Main/SetInput?input=hdmi5". Is there a way to do this with another symbol or am I trying to use a method that isnt possible with this system?

Re: DSC PowerSeries Neo

I might be building my own Crestron DSC driver pretty soon out of need, similar to my Interlogix NX-8E interface (which I¡¯ve improved significantly since I last talked about it)

the bulk of the low level protocol will likewise be on an Arduino-style board so that the Crestron processor sees simple high-level messages and isn¡¯t running a time sensitive protocol.

I¡¯m not enthusiastic of 10 minutes for a device to sync without good reason or explanation, and I like using my Arduinos that fully boot in milliseconds, keep protocol timing commitments to the microsecond, and can be integrated to Crestron with nothing more than basic text commands over serial send/receives or their IP counterparts. ?This way pretty much eliminates all risk of causing lockups or resource leaks on the processor. ?Also makes for novel ways to debug ¡ª like if I select an Arduino with a built in LCD display where I can show debug and protocol status info.?

if I come up with something good, I¡¯ll either be sharing it or selling it. Will say more when I have something to show. Mike

Re: No Lights in Crestron House anymore please help very dark now Pac2 mini maybe failing?

Crestron suggests only 20 devices or 1000' per cable or cresnet segment. This has nothing to do with power and everything to do with communication. The more current the processor the more I have noticed this guideline needs to be followed. You are going from a 2-series with a built-in hub to a 3-series without a hub. If you have more than 20-25 devices without a hub you will most likely start noticing inconsistencies with button presses, feedback and your loads. A CNX-HUB or DIN-HUB should really be used

FTR, power supplies and Cresnet Hubs are not the same thing. The PSs are of course to provide sufficient power for various devices (Four 75w PSs seem to be ALOT for a lighting system, unless this is also for other integration devices as well).
A Cresnet hub (Available in stand-alone models and built into devices like the Pac2M which has two Hub Ports) allows a balancing for the communications load for multiple cresnet devices.?
EX: if you had 38 cresnet keypads, they would only draw ~ 40-60w but would require (for proper design) two hub ports. if you added seven CLX lighting modules, technically you should have three hub ports and thus would require an additional hub device with or in place of your Pac2M hub Ports.
*** Most all of us would agree that you can push this limit, especially depending on what devices and their characteristics, so in my example of 38 keypads and 7 modules, I would be very comfortable using only the two hub ports on the Pac2M because the keypads are a very low load on the system.? But professional design considerations need to be evaluated with your particular system...

How many Cresnet keypads, CLX modules and other cresnet devices are attached to your lighting system??

Re: Trying to Understand Crestron Gateways. Helped Needed please!!!

Don't be so quick to throw away the ML-600 remotes.? I think they are the most bullet-proof remotes that Crestron ever offered.? I still use one in my own house because it simply works 100% of the time.? Yes, it doesn't offer 2 way features of the latest and greatest remotes.? However, my A/V receiver displays the volume level on the TV when I adjust it and I don't need any other 2-way feedback for my TV watching where a Roku is my only video source. The only thing I feel I'm missing is voice control through the remote.

Given the age of the remote and gateway, I've very inexpensively bought some spares on eBay.

Eric's comment about the strength of the signal from the ML-600 is very true.? I had a customer in a 16,000 sq ft home.? One of the kids stuck an ML-600 between the cushions on a couch in a 3rd floor playroom that depressed some buttons on the remote.? The signal was so strong it jammed the operation of every other remote in the house including those in the basement.? As soon as we found the remote in the playroom, and pulled it out from between the cushions, all the other remotes in the house started working again.

Hope this helps

The ml600 communicated over 418hz. The MLX-2 is using 2.4ghz. 2.4ghz has no where close to the range 418hz has. You should be able to expect about the same range as you get with a 2.4ghz wifi ap, that is not true with the MLX-2. I think Crestron says 15 to 30'. If you were to use the newer mlx3 or a current remote you would get better range but still not ml600 range.

Biamp cornerstone support has documentation on how to create a connection with a Crestron processor and how to send commands. I recommend searching ¡°crestron¡± on their support site.?

Re: Stewart Filmscreen drop down screen IR hex codes needed

I found a few more files and created / uploaded another IR file (Somfy Stewart screen). Stewart used to post their HEX files, but that appears to have stopped.

Re: Stewart Filmscreen drop down screen IR hex codes needed

Thank you for posting. I found those codes and those are the Sindy IR codes I mentioned trying that didn¡¯t work. Why doesn¡¯t Stewart share the complete hex codes for their screen. Bummer

Re: Trying to Understand Crestron Gateways. Helped Needed please!!!

Thanks Eric for clarifying this, however could you please elaborate on why Crestron said you should use a separate gateway for each remote?Does that mean I need to purchase 3 gateways since I will have 3 MLX-2¡¯s?
that seems odd as my Ml 600 I only had one. 418 gateway? ?I don¡¯t see why and what would happen? ?If I used one gateway for all three levels of home?

thanks

Re: Trying to Understand Crestron Gateways. Helped Needed please!!!

Also, keep in mind that when you are using the CEN-RFGW-EX gateway with a MLX-2 it can not be used with any other device. You will use the CEN-RFGW-EX(MLX-2) version of the definition in the program. Crestron suggested only using a single remote per gateway, I used more than one without issues. Look over the firmware release notes on the CEN-RFGE-EX, I know they stopped supporting the MLX-2 in one of the versions.

Re: Trying to Understand Crestron Gateways. Helped Needed please!!!

You have to use the CEN-RFGW-EX with MLX-2, none of the other gateways will work with that remote.

The CEN-RFGW-EX was originally just for EX devices. Crestron figured out they could update it with firmware to add the ER devices as well, so they did.
The CEN-ERFGW only does ER devices.

Trying to Understand Crestron Gateways. Helped Needed please!!!

Hi there, I have recently started ?replacing and upgrading my old ?PVID/Pro2 system with Ml 600's to an DMPS3 4K-350 C-Series processor. ?While doing this upgrade I decided to go away from 3 ML600's remotes to 3 MLX-2 infiNet EX remotes.
?I want to have 2 way feedback control with the remotes and not as bulky remotes.

Where the problem or concern lies is that I was told my CNRFWGA-418 won't be able to communicate with the new MLX-2's remotes and I would have to upgrade to a CEN-RFGW-EX Gateway

https://www.crestron.com/Products/Control-Hardware-Software/Wireless-Communications/Wireless-Gateways/CEN-RFGW-EX-PWE

which now has been replaced by a CEN-GWEXER gateway.https://www.crestron.com/Products/Control-Hardware-Software/Wireless-Communications/Wireless-Gateways/CEN-GWEXER

What I was wondering if I can pick up for less monies and within Canada a CEN-ERFGW ?gateway

which has also been replaced by a CEN-GWEXER gateway.

Can I use this ?CEN-ERFGW gateway to communicate with MLX-2 remotes or do I need to use the CEN-RFGW-EX Gateway to communicate with MLX-2 remotes only?

I am trying to understand what differences between these two gateways are that were both replaced by a single CEN-GWEXER gateway which can communicate to the MLX -2 remotes

Any clarification on this greatly appreciated as want to make sure buy the proper gateway to work in conjunction with new remotes

Re: No Lights in Crestron House anymore please help very dark now Pac2 mini maybe failing?

Hi there my temporary fix is still working as I await the arrival of my Crestron RMC3., I was able to get a used one in Canada for quite a bit less than a used Pac2 Mini. ?I will keep Pac2 M and try to locate a new power supply and use it as a back up in case RMC3 goes down.

"Cresnet wants only 20 devices per cresnet Hub/Port.
I'm assuming that you have a panelized system with dimmer modules and keypads, versus an all wireless system - Yes?
If so, how many devices do you have in the lighting system?? Modules, Keypads, etc."

I ?have the power loads distributed through my 4 CNPWS-75 power supplies distributed evenly to all the cresnet devices so I am good this way. ?

Once I get RMC installed I will let you know how everything turned out but for now I have lights working which is good my wife says :)

I have the DSC NEO successfully working on a job. Was a pain to setup. Just
make sure all settings on alarm system are correct, check documentation for
module. It takes like 10 minutes to connection so have to be patient when
seeing if it is actuallyworking.
