Re: Sonos control is still working?

Last time I dealt with this, I ran the Sonos integration in a different slot and had to reboot it every night.? I had to firmware update the controller, update the modules and recompile.? I still had to use debugger to look at what the Sonos module was doing.? I agree about the init on the module and better debugging tools.

Re: Sonos control is still working?

Yes things are still working, though neither Crestron or Sonos has dealt with the general communications unreliability over the last 5+ years...
First is this an S1 or S2 Sonos setup? Though S1 should still work, it has been EoL for 3-4+ years so there are things (security, etc.) that could be creating degradation with this old platform...

The latest modules are the System v3.1.1 and the Device v3.2.0 I have been using them without much/any new issues.
Other than making sure that the player name is correct, which is what the communications is based on, it should work. I was also told long ago not to have 'spaces' in the name - 'Sonos1' instead of 'Sonos 1'
a. With the v3.2.0 device module, make sure that the 'IP Port Number' is unique in your program for each instance. I? would change it to something else (I use 41991, 41992, 41993, etc.) so that it will not conflict with other Crestron modules like the TV presets module, etc...
b. As 50% of my systems Sonos communications will fail after 1 week to 4 hours (!!!) and STILL the only way to restore communications is to reboot the entire program? :(? - I have set up a separate slot program just for the Sonos modules. This way I can reboot the Sonos program without restarting the entire house all the time. I have logic to review the communications status of the Sonos system and players. Which works pretty well, but is unbelievably unnecessary if Sonos and Crestron would actually do their job...

<rant> Yet again...
CRESTRON:? If you're listening, this is an example of when you don't fix the fundamental root issue, then everyone else has to spend thousands of hours creating and testing work-arounds that sort of solve the issue, instead of spending time selling more of your products - this would of course make all of us more money and provide actually happy clients!!!!? I could list (10) items like this in my sleep!!!
I've told many people at Crestron that all they had to do at minimum would be to make the INITIALIZE input on the System module to actually restart the communications instead of having to reboot the program...

Sonos control is still working?

Hello to everybody,?
Could you confirm that the Sonos integration in Crestron is still working?

I have a system with Sonos system module + Sonos device module + media object module that stop working.?
I have updated the Sonos software, I have updates the 3 modules in the simpl but I cannot establish the communication again.?

Is this system to control Sonos device still good?
Is there any http protocol to control the Sonos? (volume, transport...)?

Thanks

Re: Converting from Pyng (CH) to D3Pro

No, I don't expect it to be THAT easy :-)

I was thinking of something to simplify the process of extracting all the device IDs, load/room names, scene definitions, etc. I realize I will then have to manually enter/create all of that in D3Pro.

I'm currently gathering info from Crestron Home Setup, json config files, and Network Device Tree, then combining it into a single document. However it's quite tedious, and I thought someone might have found a better solution.

Thanks for the reply.

Re: Country Coach Project Files

If you can connect to the processor with text console and type ProgCom, you'll at least see the file path of the current compile and also maybe the programmer/dealer.
this may shed some light on who to look for...

Re: NVX Director 160 with multiple classrooms with DMPS-350's

I think adding in the director is making all of this more complicated than it needs to be.

Have all your DMPS units talk directly to their in-room NVX units. If you want a "Master" routing Panel/Xpanel then i'd probably looks to add another small processor that simply runs EISC to all the classrooms for override / overflow capabilities.

Re: Country Coach Project Files

I know that at some point in time, Country Coach in Eugene did their own programming and possibly still do.

It might be worth contacting them directly.

Converting from Pyng (CH) to D3Pro

I'm switching a fairly large lighting system from an old Pyng Hub to a D3Pro program, and wondered if anyone has done something similar and have any tips to share.

My biggest tasks will be documenting and recreating all the loads and scenes.? I've copied the Pyng config files and opened them in Notepad++ and can see patterns of association.? However, many things are only referred to by ID number, then you have to find/open another file to see what that number is actually referencing.? It's all doable, but just seems overly tedious.

So, if anyone has done it before and can provide any tips for making the process more efficient, I'd be very grateful :-)

NVX Director 160 with multiple classrooms with DMPS-350's

Hello,
I have some simple NVX installations but for the next big roll out we are also installing an NVX Director 160. I have multiple classrooms with DMPS4k-350's for in-room switching (pc,doc cam, bluray, laptop, airmedia, NVX D200) and control using TSW-770. The output will have DM and also an NVX-E30. Some rooms will have multiple displays (4-5) and will have NVXD200 at each display.? In talking to TB initially about a year ago it was my understanding that each DMPS would talk to the Director160 directly and I would program each room's displays to select the correct stream (much like subscribing to various streams on the D200 and doing an analog initialize to select the stream I want to view), that the Director would do all the routing of the streams.

In getting the Director installed I am seeing that it looks like I need to route everything through a control processor that is "connected" to the Director. Yesterday, when talking to TB about the Director not auto discovering the endpoints, we discussed the control processor setup. I was told at first that I didn't need the C.P. at the Director because of the DMPS's, then I was told it was optional, and also that I could just use each DMPS as a Domain Control system and not have a Global domain, but that looks like I would be limited to 20 classrooms. Then they said I would need to do EIC between the DMPS's and that I need a C.P. at the director.

Could someone provide some clarification as to what is needed to have each classroom's DMPS control what stream is going to the displays in that classroom through the Director. I also want the ability to override streams to displays for overflow and special occasions. All classrooms are in the same building, but we may add additional buildings in the future.

Thank you for your time.

I agree with what ScubaSteve said...
And to the 'Local so ports shouldn't matter, My first symptom with this problem was that my client couldn't connect his phone locally. It appeared that the 'dark web' was pounding so hard on long ago opened ports that his iPhone couldn't make a solid connection to the processor locally...
That said, I'm sure (I hope!) that the IT company wouldn't be opening ports in this day and age. I assume that they certainly wouldn't open ports to your processor unless you asked them to anyway...

Keep us posted!!

Onderwerp: [crestron] Symetrix Symnet fader control module

?

I am attempting to use the Symetrix Symnet Fader Control (and Feedback Processor) to control a Prism 8x8.

All I think I need to use at the moment are sliders and mute buttons (I also found the Symetrix Button Control).

The F1 help file says that I can get the sample program file from Symetrix, but when I called them, even they couldn't find it on their site (it's old).

Does anyone have a copy of that, that I can get hold of?

"Crestron Demo.sym".

Any help or advice on these would be appreciated, since I'm pretty green at this.

Thanks-a-bunch.

Re: Crestron Go Tablet - iPad locking up after kept alive for X amount of time

I see this problem fairly often as we have a large number of iPads deployed over a number of sites.? ? Force close and restart the iPad fixes as you describe.? ? I have also seen the Go App respond again after 5 to 10 seconds, so its worth getting your client to touch a button on the page and wait for up to 30 seconds and see if the app comes back to life.? ?TBH, by the time you have been waiting 10 seconds or so you can have force closed and restarted....but worth testing to see if the app has stopped or just there is a delay.? ? ?My hunch is this is to do with the iPad IOS standby and power settings as it always happens after a period of time when the iPad has not been used, however I've never got to the bottom of that.? ? ?I don't believe we noticed the problem in the older iPad app or IOS versions and my perspective is its started to appear in the last 4 or so years.? ?Other than that we've never bothered to test it further.? ? ?You could try hooking up an iPad on an ethernet cable and switching off Wi-FI and see if this is Wi-Fi, Network related or IOS power saving related.? ? ?Its certainly not Crestron processor related as we also run computer based smart graphics mirrors of the iPad GUI and they never stop working.

Re: S+ Change Rx Event

I¡¯m not sure that¡¯s an error ¡ª in C# you can catch a ¡°ThreadAbortException¡± for an opportunity to do something just as your thread is being aborted ¡ª

Gather() is a blocking call that doesn¡¯t return until the delimiter has been detected, and if you wrap that in a try-catch and get a thread abort exception, at most that¡¯s an opportunity to do a last-minute operation, but certainly isn¡¯t an ¡°error¡± ¡ª if it¡¯s an unwanted opportunity, you don¡¯t have to do anything with it or report it. Just exit instead

S+ Change Rx Event

I'm getting a Thread Abort error in? my S+ code, when the processor is sent a STOPPROG command. Not a big deal but makes me wonder..
Is this still the correct way to handle buffer events in S+?

THREADSAFE CHANGE from_device
{
string sTemp[100];
while(1)
{
try
{
sTemp = gather("\x0D",from_device);
ParseRx(sTemp);
}
catch
{
Print("Error Processing from_device.%s",GetExceptionMessage());
}
}
}

Country Coach Project Files

I am about to do some work on a Country Coach but the files that I currently have are not what is running on the coach at this time.? The simpl file that is currently on the coach is "PRO2 L046 2011-04-12.smw".? Does anyone out there happen to have the project files associated with this coach?? Thank you in advance!
