Digital Projection e-vision 4500
Hello all, I'm looking for a module for the e-vision 4500. Commands are different than the e-vision series module provided in the groups modules file. Does anybody have one? It would be much appreciated.? Specifically I'm looking how to structure the command for feedback status. I know the command starts V99G007. The descriptions would be: 0:Reset 1:Standby 2:Operation 3:Cooling Any idea how to structure the actual command? V99G007:3\x0D Apologies for being such a noob. Lol. |
Re: TSW750 - play sound?
Joe Vossen
I'd be interested in the answer to this too; I have a client with 2 TSW750s and have specified in the project properties the names of the MP3s and the joins to trigger the playing of these files. When the joins go high, we never hear the files being played.

Re: [OT] Fiber Terms - What are you using?
Recently got some training on UniCam after having done AFL exclusively. ?My feeling is that the UniCam tool does a much better job of positive indication that the fiber end-face is where it's supposed to be prior to committing. ?Very much green light, red light versus trying to interpret the two windows on the AFL connectors. ?There is some thought that the indexing gel on the UniCam connectors is more stable at lower temperatures. ?I haven't done any quantity of UniCam on a project as of yet though. ?AFL in general has not been a bad experience as long as you have the tools to do at least a loss insertion test post termination, full certification testing being a bonus. ?A proficient tech should be able to do either solution in about the same amount of time per termination.
If this is ?specifically for DM I will note that it can be difficult to stay under the maximum loss that the Digital Media guys quote once you add two patch cords and bulkhead connections into the equation. ?The last number I was quoted for loss was 3dB for permalink and 4dB with a patchbay. ?Patchbays also introduce many more ends to inspect and clean but are sometimes the only way to tame a larger fiber DM installation. Re: [OT] Fiber Terms - What are you using?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI think in many cases it comes down to Datacom installers being generally more plentiful and cheaper than AV techs ¨Cespecially if they¡¯re already hauling fiber through the building for IT, the marginal cost of throwing another few cables in is pretty low. Plus it usually means that it¡¯s covered by the building structured cabling warranty (typically 25 years if manufacturer-certified insallers). ? It seems like a growing number of my dealers are getting out of the ¡°cable pulling¡± business and subbing everything (fiber and copper) to the Datacom/LVC contractor or the EC to free up their techs for the more skilled aspects of our industry. ? -- Lincoln King-Cliby, CTS, DMC-E-4K/T/D Commercial Market Director Sr. Systems Architect | Crestron Certified Master Programmer (Gold) ControlWorks Consulting, LLC Crestron Services Provider | Biamp Audia Certified | Extron Control Professional ? Re: [OT] Fiber Terms - What are you using?
That's really disappointing. Pre-polished connectors can be done well in a couple minutes. I know they have their downsides... mostly on the cost side... but as relatively foolproof (with training) as they are, I'm shocked that more installers aren't using them.?

"others are using Macbook Pros, but have to run some type of Windows emulation to get the software to run"
Hmmm...? Many are happy with running a virtual machine - I'm running Bootcamp, which is Windows running right on the hardware - no emulation...? (Seems like a dirty word) ? - Chip |
Re: [OT] Fiber Terms - What are you using?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýIt seems that most of my dealers have determined it¡¯s more cost effective and less trouble/failure prone to sub out fiber (where used ¨C I¡¯m still surprised by how relatively rare it¡¯s been) to whomever¡¯s doing the Datacom install in the building. ? They just pull and terminate the fiber to a standard fiber patch box (bolted to the wall) or panel (invariably the top space in the rack) certify the runs for optical loss/attenuation and the integrator uses off the shelf pre-fabricated patch cables to make the jump from that patch panel to the DM/network gear/Extron fiber products/etc. ? Re: Combinable / Divisible Rooms
There was a whole long thread on the topic but I'll restate my opinion here:
I haven't needed crosspoints in my 12 years of Crestron programming. Remember, you don't need different signals for "dvd power" on different touchpanels. No need for a buffer here, unless you need to track where the press came from. I pretty much have many touchpanels programmed, and only have tp1_ and tp2_ signals for things that NEED to be different, like page flips and some feedback. Otherwise, make them identical. As far room combining, BSS BLU's have a GREAT room combine signal and logic. It even handles automixer gain references and such. Then from a processor, just recall room config presets.? <RANT> I tried to do a split room design with a QM-MD7X2 with that unit handling audio. Our rep (and Crestron) insisted at the time we program this with System Builder. HUGE MISTAKE. SB was not cut out for that, and the bigger problem was they left out over 20 really important joins in the Crestron module used in SB so I couldn't control things I needed to. It never got fixed. They wanted me to do SB then fix it in SIMPL, but that's a one-way street. Not doing it.</RANT> |

Re: Combinable / Divisible Rooms
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýDivisible rooms are tied with voting systems as by far my favorite single type of systems to program [as long as the engineers haven¡¯t tried getting overly cute with it (e.g. 2 CODECs shared against any of 5 room sections in any combination with the attendant mess that becomes of AEC references, camera selection/routing, etc., etc. )] ? -- Lincoln King-Cliby, CTS, DMC-E-4K/T/D Commercial Market Director Sr. Systems Architect | Crestron Certified Master Programmer (Gold) ControlWorks Consulting, LLC Crestron Services Provider | Biamp Audia Certified | Extron Control Professional ? Re: Laptop suggestion for Crestron and AMX
You don't need a ton of processing power for Crestron software, other than some programs being single threaded, where core speed will launch apps faster.?
Definitely get a SSD and 8GB RAM is fine.? I would actually keep to a 1080p display as Crestron programs don't HiDPI scale that well. I end up running my Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro @ 1080p even though it has a QHD+ display.? Speaking of which, I'm loving my Yoga 2 Pro. It's outdated now but still performs great, and my backpack has never been lighter. You do have to use a USB3 Ethernet dongle but it's no big deal. I bought two of them so I can even do dial NICs, WiFi, and USB Tethered phone (for Internet) all at the same time (Yes, there are situations).? I'm a big fan of Dell laptops, when purchased direct, and mostly their Latitude, Precision, and XPS lines. Vostro is nice for the price point. Their store-bought is OK but nowhere near the level of support.? Touch screen is nice for when you run XPANEL for testing... which is partly why I went with the convertible.? |

Raj,
? I am looking for a new Laptop for this purpose as well. ?Did you find something? ?I know that the Crestron Owners Group on LinkedIn has a discussion on this. ?Most folks seem to be going with Microsoft Surface Pros for fieldwork, while a list of others are using Macbook Pros, but have to run some type of Windows emulation to get the software to run. I am interested to see if you have purchased anything yet, and if others have any recommendations. -Will |

It's there, in the documents section. ?providers_directv_east from gablerjohn. ?I went through and upadated and added a lot of channels to include icons for most. ?I still haven't gotten around to adding icons for the music channels. ?So if someone feel so inclined to do so and repost that would be great.?

Re: Combinable / Divisible Rooms
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýUsually when sensors aren¡¯t provided we do everything we can to get the client to put sensors in (it almost always results that the savings from programming outweighs the cost of the sensors and in our opinion/experience yields a more idiot-proof system). ? When we can¡¯t get people to bite on that approach usually it¡¯s something along the lines of when all rooms in a possible configuration are off the user is prompted to choose the desired configuration (e.g. in a 4-way divisible room A-B-C-D, if D is ¡°on¡±, the A-B-C touchpanels will allow selection of A+B, B+C, or A+B+C but not anything including ¡°D¡± [i.e. A+B+C+D, B+C+D, C+D]) to prevent someone from accidentally ¡°hijacking¡± the meeting in the rooms that are on. ? Determine which room will be the master/have the master logic when rooms are combined early. If it¡¯s a 3 way room, this is almost invariably the middle room for every scenario. (A+B = B Master, B+C = B Master, A+B+C = B Master). For other layouts this isn¡¯t always so easy and depends on the physical layout/attributes of each section. ? -- Lincoln King-Cliby, CTS, DMC-E-4K/T/D Commercial Market Director Sr. Systems Architect | Crestron Certified Master Programmer (Gold) ControlWorks Consulting, LLC Crestron Services Provider | Biamp Audia Certified | Extron Control Professional ? ? Neil, Lincoln, Chip, I figure you're top on the div-space list code gurus, but anyone with experience of conference centers with all areas needing background music and combining rooms without any sensors at all, I could use a pep talk before I dive into this one on my plate at the moment. 7 areas, 6 7" panels, a few video zones, but for the most part all audio with input audio plates and mics all around. Crestron lighting and some 232 or relay controlled shades in some rooms too. ? Thinking of using XP's. ? Thinking of using dynamic lists.? ? Since there are no sensors, I was wondering if you recommend I have only one panel capable of setup modes and not having that capability on all panels? ? There will be one behind a receptionist' s desk, but its designed to be a panel to control the pre-function space. Again, no wall sensors.\ ? I believe I need to create an XP for each zones individual zone controls and then one for each combination.? ? Just unsure of the Devil's Spawn! ? Thanks in advance for any/all insight, Cyberbri ? |
