Usually when sensors aren’t provided we do everything we can to get the client to put sensors in (it almost always results that the savings from programming outweighs the cost of the sensors and in our opinion/experience yields a more idiot-proof system).

When we can’t get people to bite on that approach usually it’s something along the lines of when all rooms in a possible configuration are off the user is prompted to choose the desired configuration (e.g. in a 4-way divisible room A-B-C-D, if D is “on”, the A-B-C touchpanels will allow selection of A+B, B+C, or A+B+C but not anything including “D” [i.e. A+B+C+D, B+C+D, C+D]) to prevent someone from accidentally “hijacking” the meeting in the rooms that are on.

Determine which room will be the master/have the master logic when rooms are combined early. If it’s a 3 way room, this is almost invariably the middle room for every scenario. (A+B = B Master, B+C = B Master, A+B+C = B Master). For other layouts this isn’t always so easy and depends on the physical layout/attributes of each section.
