Re: Dish Network Hopper2000
Great, I will give that a shot. What did you end up doing for the color commands (red, yellow, green, blue)?
I don't see those on the 922 driver but they are on the remote and am unsure how vital these are to the interface. Thanks for the quick reply.

I recently read a good review of the Samsung PN60E7000FF and I'm pretty sure it has EX-Link(232).

Balked when I suggested the Panasonic that actually has RS-232 to be able to implement all of those features because it cost quite a bit more.
Now he has asked if there is any other control system other than Crestron that will give those features - seems to think that Crestron "needs" RS-232 and another cheap control system <URC, RTI, etc> won't need RS-232 to to do everything he wants. I'm sticking with Crestron so my other option is to find a cheaper plasma with RS-232.
Anyone use another plasma sized 60"-65" that has RS-232 support and a built-in off air tuner?

One thing I was messing around with in my house was RFID. That parts are pretty cheap, but you can do fun stuff. Keep the transmitter in your car and automate gates, garage doors, lights etc. They have different range antennas from 8M on up.

Brian, I do believe it is your module that I am using. Thanks by the way.
I spoke to crestron yesterday and the tech I spoke with said this is something to do with their database as he spoke to another programmer that was having the same problem.
The work around he gave me was to add a second paramater in the audef, copy the original audef and add a "1" to the end of it. Then copy the SIO and edit the strings to what they should be, then add the "1" to the end of the parameter field.

Re: Error msg. Buffer Input overflow in S+ for Panasonic PT-AE4000U
Thank?s again for all replies. I think that this issue locked the processor. I?m not able to do a remote access and the client traveled yesterday. When he gets back, I?m gonna do all the tests. (first do the workaround and then learn how to rewrite the code). And yes, I thought I2P modules would be better written than this. If you take a look at the code in the simpl+ module, it will Remove characters from the buffer ONLY if: Lamp_Requested is 1 AND ETX("\x03") is found. ie. The buffer will still be filled up with replies from other polls! Had to rewrite both pollroutine + simpl+, and this really annoyes me.... (especially on a Friday afternoon. Grrr)
Back to the OP's question "What should I do?" the answer is: Rewrite both the pollroutine & the lamp hours module.
IMHO We should expect I2P modules to be better written than this.

Re: Control override funcionality
EC is entertainment center, sorry.
by jam I mean you can pass your 'TV off' command (which is presumably already being sent to your TV logic or devices) through a buffer, the output of which would be the 'Enable' signal on the (sr).
Thus when the 'TV off' signal goes temporarily high (ie. is triggered), the (sr) is restored so that the kids remote is enabled.

Am I correct that this wasn't present on the 2-Series?

This isn't a mistake. It's part of a file signature. It's amazing that support can't even tell you something this basic.
How are you opening the file - what mode? binary or text?

Hey everyone,
I've noticed for awhile now that the "FileWrite" command on a 3 series adds 8 bytes worth of hex info to the beginning of the file.
Up until now, this hasn't been a big deal, as I was simply using the file for formatted text and parsing it back in later where I could just ignore it. Now I'm trying to save a data type that isn't just text and it's not working. (image file) The file shows up as corrupt when transferred to a pc. If I open it with a hex editor and delete the 8 bytes, the file will open fine on the PC or anything else I send it to.
The module is working fine on a 2 series - doesn't add the junk to the file. All this is can be recreated with even a simple "hello world" type program that saves to a file. Your file will end up 8 bytes larger than the string you are writing.
Called TB and they just dismissed it as "must be a memory address" and offered no solutions.
Anyone else ran into this / found a magic bullet?
Thanks -Dustin

Having the _O_Text will not hurt the 2 series programs, it just ignores it so you do not need to write separate events for 2 or 3 series for that. though you may want to do the following
#IF_SERIES2 FILEHANDLE = FileOpen(FiletoRead, _O_RDONLY|_O_TEXT); #ELSE FILEHANDLE = FileOpenShared(FiletoRead, _O_RDONLY|_O_TEXT); #EndIF
Else the 3 series will save it to the program folder, for example "\RM\AV\Squirell.bmp"

Re: Control override funcionality
What I meant by 'depends on what you're using for remotes/UIs,' was that if you're using one-way remotes you won't have feedback as to the status of the kids remote & STB, no bearing on whether you should use S+ (you shouldn't).

Quick and easy: Pass all STB controls on kids remote through a buffer (buf). [enable] on the buffer is fed by the [out*] on a set-reset latch (sr). On your remote provide a 'Disable' & 'Enable' button feeding the inputs of the (sr). You may also want to use a buffer to jam the 'TV off' command with the 'Enable' button so that turning the EC off restores control to the kids remote.

Complete noobie here with hopefully an easy question.
I am trying to get a grasp on control override.I would like to be able to 'seize' a source in use by another room(aka son is using STB to watch cartoons and i want to watch ESPN)
Im studying the 'essential programming' course material trying to learn logic better but of course it doesnt get that far in with other functions.
Ive tried to make a SIMPL+ module modeled using the CH modules but i dont have Cross Compiler so it is a mute venture.
I have looked through several of programs that were sent to me but none use override.
Im probably getting too far ahead of myself but really would like to have some progress on my home system.
Any help will be greatly appreciated, Thank you.

PAD8a and bussing long distance?
I have a PAD8a on a 1st floor. 5 of the inputs are being used by a media server. I would like to add an additional 8 rooms but use those same 5 inputs. From what i understand, this is what the bussing kit is used for but the 2nd pad8a would be on the 2nd floor where the amplifier is located. Is there any way to connect the two via bussing over a longer distance?
Thanks
Philip
