Re: OT: Introducing HDMI to component distribution (PVID/BIPAD) creates ground loop

Did you try lifting the ground? If that tv even has one.?

Thanks for the responses:

The loop is actually present all the time. With no HDMI connection, it is impossible to detect except on a very dark image, as a very thin and dim rolling band. Plugging in the HDMI to any source in the rack causes it to become much larger.

This suggests to me that there has always been a loop issue but it simply wasn't noticed until we put in a big 80" tv. Even then it wasn't noticed until the problem was exacerbated by the addition of HDMI.

The band does not appear on any of the other TV's (older Fujitsu plasmas, component only, and a small Samsung, component only)

I've been on the phone with our tech on-site off and on all morning, and he's tried every permutation we can think of.

Disconnected the cable feed from service.
Powered TV and equipment from one surge protector (Furman) via extension cord.

Subject: [Crestron] OT: Introducing HDMI to component distribution
(PVID/BIPAD) creates ground loop

Basically, the above. We've taken over an old analog distribution system,
and recently replaced an old Fujitsu plasma w/ a large Samsung LED unit. No
problem while on component distribution.

We were then asked to connect 'His Cable' to the new TV via HDMI as the
lead-in to a DM system. Pulled 2x Cat6 about 60' and used a Vanco balun to
accomplish this.

We now have a ground loop on component signals (additional cable boxes, BD,
AppleTV gen1) to the Samsung. No issue on the other TVs.

Disconnecting the HDMI from the cable box fixes the issue. Other cable
boxes/BD also reintroduce the loop. Have tried an isolator on the component
connections between the TV and the PVID, and the PVID and the cable box, no
change.

Any suggestions/fixes?

Hello All. I am the founder of HouseLogix, a Pennsylvania technology company. For those of you who monitor the Control4 world, you probably have heard of our VoicePod product by now. See www.voicepod.com. We are just launching VoicePod May 13th after three years of development and a successful six month beta program. We recently received a US Patent on VoicePod and have registered hundreds of dealers in the past few weeks.

In a nutshell, VoicePod is a new wireless device designed to "speech enable" any home automation system. Each VoicePod combines voice recognition (both speaker-dependent and speaker-independent) technology with speech-synthesis and text-to-speech technologies inside a small device with wireless communications. VoicePod is packaged as a wireless tabletop device with a built in speaker and microphone. But it can be wall mounted or rack mounted using external microphones and interface with external audio systems as well. All technology is embedded, so VoicePod recognizes commands instantly. Its voice commands and menus are completely customizable.

The first flavor of VoicePod provides both Zigbee support and serial integration through a built-in serial port. We are publishing VoicePod's serial integration protocol. We also have Wi-fi and iOS versions well underway that each will support full IP integration. I won't try to explain the whole product fully here since our website and videos do a good job of that. www.voicepod.com/faq has a lot of answers.

I'm here because we would like see some Crestron implementations of VoicePod. We are Control4 experts and Control4's DriverWorks tool allowed us to create very robust Control4 support for our launch. We have no expertise in Crestron (or AMX, Savant, etc) and are looking for some help with making sure our product finds its way into the Crestron world.

There seems to be a lot of Crestron expertise floating around this "colorful" forum so I thought I'd seek some partners and early adopters on here. Ideally, we're looking for experienced Creston dealers with a customers who want VoicePod. We'd like to work with some dealers to build a free (or marketable) Crestron module suitable for serial and/or IP integration with VoicePod. We would provide discounted hardware and a superb level of support to early adopters in the Crestron world.

Our product is a home run for both luxury living and for the disabled at the same time. If interested in working with us, feel free to email me at ted.rosenberger@

Re: Creating Epson serial module for Powerlite G5450

Not sure why you get an error response when you are only polling Power. Epsons return an error when polling source, mte, etc. while off, but the models I have used do not return an ERR along with the power status. What command are you sending? "PWR?\x0D" is the power poll command. Are you sure you are waiting for the ":" before sending another command?

--- In Crestron@..., "chuckperkinscrestron" <charles.perkins@...> wrote:

I am only polling Power, Source, Mute, Lamp Hours. I was getting the ERR back even when I was only polling Power

If I take the time to create a module for a specific projector, I would stop polling for everything but power status when it's off.

I have created a module for our Epson G5450 projectors. Everything seems to work but I have a couple questions.

1. When the projector is "Off", I get a ERR\x0D when polling the projector, I will get the PWR=04\x0D also, that shows that it's off. When the projector is "On" I only receive the PWR=01\x0D response from the projector. I have the module set to pulse the "Proj is On" or the "Projector Is Off" based on the status returned from the polling. With this polling, my touch panel buttons are always in sync with the status of the projector On/Warmup/CoolDn/Off even if the projector in control by the IR remote. I see in the Crestron Module for the Epson G5650 (which uses the same commands) that they watch for the ERR or : (ack) but I can't figure out what they are doing when the response is received.

I created my own module so that I can monitor/control just what I need - Power On/Off, Pic Mute On/Off, Lamp Hours, Select HDMI Input

Does the ERR\x0D response cause issues after polling for long periods of time?

2. I have noticed that after the projector has been Off over night, that it doesn't respond to the Power On command from the button press. After the first time the power on press makes the projector turn on almost immediately. I don't see any shut down/sleep timers that are set in the projector.

Thanks for any info you maybe able to share.

Re: Apple TV Menu Button Not Working

Almost - I had one a couple of months ago, that wouldn't respond to the Select command from the IR driver (Crestron DB) that I've used on 100 other boxes.

Let me know if you'd like a copy of the driver I finally got to work with it.

At the moment I am using the program that is in the folder with the module from:

samsung_un55es8000_v1_0_demo

I've changed nothing so would expect it to be set up correctly.

I can send commands using Toolbox but nothing happens and I get no feedback from the com port.

The module offers lots of sends and feedback.

Maybe I should try the UN55ES7500 instead.

It was pretty cool. There were 11 other bands and we all played acoustic
sets at every stop for the locals. The whole thing was broadcast on CBC
radio. They were making a documentary but last I heard the company
shooting lost all the raw film on their HDD (using a normal external drive
with NO backup.....). There was also a lot of partying/drinking on the
train, lol.

I've spent most of my life living around and enjoying the mountains, but
seeing them from a train was a whole new experience. It did get SUPER
boring after Edmonton though...

Instead of flying home from Vancouver, take the train across the Canadian
Rockies. The scenery gets boring after the mountains so I would get off
somewhere in the middle and rent a car for the drive home.

Burger Joint in Le Parker Meridian across from Carnegie Hall is a decent
burger-to-$ ratio and an odd contrast from the fairly elegant hotel lobby.

For theater (re), I usually wander by the TKTS booth in Times Square and
just pick a title at random off the board if I'm so inclined.

The Highline park in (IIRC) the Meatpacking District is a cool urban
park.

Beyond that "Get a [unlimited ride] MetroCard and wander around the city
stopping at anything that looks interesting" is my typical modus operanda
for larger cities, especially NYC. [Ok, so I really love Cleveland and
don't see myself moving anytime soon, but Manhattan is my "If I could
afford to love there..." city]

Speaking of travel... I'm wrapping up my last few days of my first visit
to Vancouver (both the city and Canada) -- anything I should be sure not to
miss if I happen to create any free time?

Re: PTL4 to TPS4L

Kool-Aid Drinker

With older firmware you can just use a physical PTL-4 where you have a
programmatic TPS-4L.

With newer firmware, the processor pays more attention to the panel's
identity and won't speak to the PTL-4.

We have two PTL-4s lying around that we're never going to be able to get rid of and we need

If I wreck the unit, so be it, then we'll hunt for a 4L. So before I bother with
firmware, I simply load a TPS-4L project to it as well as a processor and lo and behold it
simply works!

So this turned out to be a non-issue or is there something I'm not aware of that is going
to come back and screw me?

I think I remember a while back someone discussing a way to convert a ptl4 to a tps 4L.
Does anyone know of a way to do this? TIA

So now that my memory was just jogged, I've been meaning to post on here.

This Saturday I'm headed to Manhattan for the 6th time. However this is the first time where it's a purely personal trip, no work or visit to Rockleigh planned so I have more time in the city.

I'm looking for ideas on what to do on the Monday and Tuesday. I'm bringing a friend who's never been before and has a conference at Lincoln Center over the weekend.

Like I said, I've been 5 times before and done most of the touristy stuff already. Some of it ill do again just so she can go up the Empire State Building and so on. I'm more looking for less obvious things to do.

Clinton street bakery was recommended as a good breakfast spot. She's really into vegan/raw food so any places in Brooklyn or Manhattan that are good?

Also looking for something to do on Sunday night. I usually go see a standup show at Caroline's or Gotham, etc. but no one I'm super keen about is playing that night. Anyone know of a more "off broadway" spot that might have someone interesting on, or drop in?

Re: Samsung UE55ES7000 - EX-Link

I've gone back to square 1 here to try and get this working.

I've got rid of my program and am just using the one supplied with the module.

I've uploaded it to my QM-RMC. (Was using an AV2)

I made the cable myself, pins 2,3,5 -> T,R,S tested it with a mm several times to be sure.

I've also tried changing the baud rate to 115200 as previously suggested. It's now back on 9600.

I think the key thing here is that I am getting absolutely nothing coming into SIMPL Debugger on the Rx$ of the com port that the Ex-Link is connected to.

The TV should be spurting something out regardless of what I am sending it no?

If you downloaded the UN55ES8000 module from the website. It's a straight through cable.

Did you load BOTH the Hardware & Logic modules into your program?

Did you make your own cable, or use a Samsung cable?

I used the UN55ES8000 module on a 46" with a Samsung cable plugged straight into a MC3 and it worked perfectly. ...wasn't a long run.

Thanks,

But does this actually apply to me? The pdf regarding the module I am using has no mention of injecting power...

I am connecting directly from an AV2 to the EX-Link port.

Have I missed something here? When others connect Ex-Link do you not connect directly?

Hi!

Check this info about ex-link

Specially this!!!:

"As the TV uses 3.3V TTL levels, the serial input/output has to be converted to/from TTL levels to RS232 levels (~10-15V). Thus a level shifter is needed. But most computers today, doesn't have an RS232 port, so you also need a USB-to-RS232 serial adapter (cable). Thus its a definite advantage to buy a pre-fabricated USB-to-serial converter using 3.3 Volt TTL levels on the serial side. Common one to look for are based on the PL2303 and FTDI chips.
WARNING! RS232 levels are up to 15V, which can cause seriously damage at your TV!"

Hi,

I hope someone can have some patience and spoon feed me through this as I have sat here for hours and have got nowhere. I am guessing a bit so please let me know if I am doing something stupid.

Firstly this may all be down to me using a module that may not work as I can't find my TV.

I have a: UE55ES7000
Closest I can find is the UN55ES8000

I've made up a cable for EX-LINK control using the diagram in the module pdf

(integrated_partner_modules/help_files/959/samsung_un55es8000_v1_0_help.pdf)

Tested cable with multi-meter, seems fine.

I have set the value of the RS232 mode to Debug.

Tried a basic test with the module set up like this:

I'm getting nothing in debugger on Samsung_Rx$ and the TV responds to nothing¡

Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

Shake Shack and Max Brenner are a couple of my favorite places there. I
also really like Rosa Mexicano, but it is somewhat of a smaller upper level
chain place.
