Re: Issues with Sonos & Crestron
Actually I liked a lot of the features on the MC3 -- much more then the MC4.?
For one, I prefer DB9 RS232 connectors.? Installers can never get the phoenix RS232 blocks wired up correctly, But give them a DB9 straight thru cable and then can connect a receiver up to the MC3 without me having to come back and wire it up correctly.? The main issue with DB9 connections is some manufacturers have no clue that the slave unit should have a DB9F instead of a DB9M and some of them even get the TX and RX in reverse on their DB9 connectors. Likewise, I prefer the 3.5mm IR jacks.? Makes for a quick install to connect up an IR flasher.? An again, the installers cannot wire it in reverse. Sure in some installations, having a rack mount would have been nice.? But in most of our MC3 applications (small AV systems), there isn't even a rack and the MC3 fits on a shelf much better.? While I haven't seen an MC4 yet, it doesn't look like it will fit nicely on a shelf with the ears coming out on the side of it.? And then you could run multiple programs on the MC3 without buying a license. The built in wave generator in the MC3 was handle in some applications. I can see myself specifying the CP4 over the MC4 in most installations for it small price difference. |
Re: Whole House surge and Equipment Power Conditioner
Richard Gray Power Company made equipment that would filter out noise from other customers that gets on your power line.? ?Audiophiles who drop $5k on speaker cables loved that.? Most of us don't need that level of complexity on top of just absorbing power surges. Distributed protection at a reasonable cost (from companies like TrippLite) is recommended if a strike got past the fuse box. |
Re: Issues with Sonos & Crestron
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThe form factor was the worst part of the MC3 ¨C and something they corrected really well in the MC4, ? The MC3 is taller than a single RU, an odd width, no viable means of rack mounting besides putting it on a 2U shelf¡ 1/8¡± connectors for IR¡ bleh. MC4 on the other hand comes with a rack kit that only takes 1RU or can be flat packed behind a display or under a table really easily if either of those float your boat. ? It does seem that its been a little abandoned but given that it (as I understand) is a considerably different architecture than the following 3-series processors doesn¡¯t really surprise me. TBH, I¡¯m surprised the MC3 wasn¡¯t retired along with the introduction of the MC3 or DIN-AP3-MEX ? Sent from for Windows 10 ? From: ckangis

Re: system upgrade suggestions
My Standard Power Design:
Your Power plant IMHO is the most important, fundamental layer for reliability of your system (Network is now of course 2nd, but remember - the network won't work without good power!) I used this basic design concept for 25 years and have seen noticeably better reliability for my systems... SurgeX SX-20NE-RT or PF-420 (4 channel) from the branch circuit, Feeding... -Middle Atlantic UPS's (Sized as necessary), Line-interactive or 'On-Line' as requirement needed, Feeding... --Middle Atlantic RackLink Select Controllable Power Distribution units for individual outlet IP control of devices ? ? >>> These units provide direct webpage remote control and integration with DOMOTZ? Music Streamer: First, there is no longer any unpainful approach to digital music IMO, its all a crap-show no matter what you do.? That said, I think the only 'Good' choices are Sonos or Autonomic MMS; however each has their pros and cons... -You'll need Sonos, If you want Apple Music integration and/or AirPlay2 capability. Also, I think the Crestron/Sonos integration provides a nice simple 'Radio Preset' approach to the UI that will be best for most clients. Someone will have to manage the process of creating favorites via the dedicated Sonos App, and of course Sonos does not allow you to remotely manage this (have to be physically on the local network) *** Historically, the main downside is that you'll have some occasional communication problems that require a reboot (there are ways to mitigate this in your coding) and the API strictly limits the number of favorites to a max of 30, even though Crestron allows you to see/control more. -You want Autonomic if your client wants to be able to granularly search for specific things on their music services. The MPO interface is definitely more complicated to use, but for a capable client who wants to navigate to get exactly what's wanted, this would be the best choice. No Apple Music yet, but does have a sync program for iTunes if the cleint has music on his PC. it also support AirPlay1 FWIW? *** Historically they have had some issues with hardware reliability (and a few minor FW Issues); however now that the original owners have taken the company back from SnapAV, we'll see if they up the ante in terms of Hardware and services... !!!? Both do a good job of indexing, playing and creating playlists for music stored on a NAS drive for local libraries Projector: Generally, I've become a fan of the Sony Projectors (and XBR TVs) as their IP and serial (my preference still) control is Rock-solid. Pictures are bright and detailed. Typically very reliable. Turns On/Off much faster than any other projectors that I've integrated. Built in motorized lens (I think even on the entry model) to do 16:9 to CinemaScope aspect control, also a biggie for me - Electronic Blanking (4-sided) to frame the aspect properly!!! Incredible vertical mounting range makes it easy to get it positioned in various situations, also a very wide Zoom ratio.? Quality 4K image from $ 5000 to $ 60,000+ depending on details of the electronics/light engine (read Toyota up to Benz quality details) and light output depending on screen size/room conditions |
Re: Ultamation AppleTV MediaRemote Version Connection Issues (after power loss)
Thanks Oliver - I'll raise a ticket with you guys.? FYI, I've stuck with PRO3 firmware 1.503.3568.26985 based on the recommendation posted on the AppleTV MediaRemote page on your site and the AppleTV has not been updated to tvOS 14 yet. I'm sure our customers that were sold an MC3 only a few months ago (before the MC4 was even available) will be delighted to know that Crestron can't be bothered to compile this firmware fix for them.
Surely Crestron could provide firmware fixes for at least 12 months after pulling a product. The things are still in warranty! |

Hi Geoff,
What you¡¯re describing isn¡¯t (or shouldn¡¯t be!) normal. ?If you can raise a ticket with support@...?we¡¯ll be able to collect info and track the issue better. my first question would be what firmware are you running on your PRO3? All the best, Oliver (Ultamation) |

Meraki switch NVX "Compatibility Issues" -- what are they?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýOLH 100314 makes a vague reference for Meraki ¡°Compatibility issues with Meraki and DM NVX have been reported. Crestron is working with Cisco to identify and address the issues. We are sorry for any inconveniences this may have caused.¡± ? Any idea what they are? ? I turned up an NVX system (351/351Cs, no Director) on Meraki today and had braced for the worst ¨C once we (really, client¡¯s IT dude since the network is OFE and while I speak Cisco IOS I don¡¯t know Meraki¡¯s GUI at all) fixed the usual multicast issues (don¡¯t flood unknown/unsubscribed multicast, set up an IGMP querier, enable IGMP snooping, make sure fast/immediate leave is enabled) everything seems happy-happy¡ but I¡¯m nervous based on that comment that there¡¯s something lurking in the weeds that may show up after some period of time or in a particular scenario or¡ that didn¡¯t come up during testing today. ? (PS. For anyone who hasn¡¯t figured it out looking at Wireshark is a great way to quickly diagnose a multicast flooding issue: If you¡¯re on the same VLAN, start an encoder from a stream and start getting pounded with packets from the encoder¡¯s multicast IP there¡¯s your smoking gun that at a minimum that¡¯s not configured correctly (in IOS this is the per-port ¡°no ip igmp snooping tcn flood¡± ¨C not sure what it is in Meraki or if other switch platforms share the same default behavior¡but in the context of NVX it¡¯s Bad) ? -- Lincoln King-Cliby, CTS, DMC-E-4K/T/D ? |

Forgive my ignorance here, Im Googling ¡®Compool integration adapter¡¯ and nothing is jumping out at me. ?Pool controllers seem to be my Kryptonite. ?The pool guy onsite is useless and Pentair tech support is telling me ¡®no home automation¡¯. ?The old Compool setup that was previously there had a header right on the board for RS485 I believe and worked pretty well for years.

Ultamation AppleTV MediaRemote Version Connection Issues (after power loss)
I've been having an issue with my Ultamation AppleTV module (version 2.12, the latest) not reconnecting to my AppleTV after everything comes back up after a brief power loss.? My PRO3 and main network switch are on a UPS that can handle somewhat lengthy outages (an hour or 2), but the remote switch my AppleTV connects to and the AppleTV itself are not. The AppleTV boots back up fairly quickly after a power loss, but the switch (a HP ProCurve 24 port switch) takes a minute or so to get back up and running.? Frequently after a short power loss where the remote switch and AppleTV lose power, I have to reboot the PRO3 in order to get control back for the AppleTV.? The Ultamation module has a connection status output, but I don't believe there's a way to tell it to reconnect. Has anyone else run into this and are there any recommended solutions (other than putting a UPS with unlimited capacity on every device in the house...)? Thanks, Geoff |
Re: Whole House surge and Equipment Power Conditioner
We use WattBox with OVRC built in. ?A nice web interface for checking status, voltage and wattage for each outlet, scheduled reset etc. ?A large variety of configurations, from strips to rack mount, and a perfectly functioning Crestron module ready to go for integration.

Re: Issues with Sonos & Crestron
Well, it looks like I need to issue an apology.? The reason the new firmware didn't work was caused by the fact that my program for slot 2 was not auto creating an IP table entry for the Intersystem Communications module.? I was able to fix it by manually adding the table entry.? On that note, anyone have an idea why the program that I put into the program 2 slot would not auto create the entry?? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Pentair Screenlogic
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThe IntelliTouch is compatible with the iLink Adapter, and we have a module for that.? ? The IntelliCenter, uses a different module/license but we have one. ? ? Neither of those modules will work with EasyTouch. If you want to integrate the EasyTouch system, you need to install the Compool adapter and then you can use the Compool module from the Crestron database. ? Caleb Radecky |

Whole House surge and Equipment Power Conditioner
What is the consensus on whole house surge at the electrical panels and equipment rack. Additionally, Power Conditioner at equipment rack as well.
I have use APC, Tripplite, Monster, Leviton, Panamax and Cyberpower. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Ideally I would like to monitor via Crestron. Is Richard Gray Power Company still in business and if so is it worth the money? |
