Re: OT: Large project, lost of different touch panels
This is an international project, meaning the integrator, the client and myself are all different nationalities. The client has MANY house around the world. Money is not an object. They have areas where there's a V12 on the wall, TST-600 on the counter and MTX-3 next to the TV. The programming the client wants are VERY straight forward. Most touch panels only do one or two things and they hardly overlap with each other. VERY SIMPEL.
I just want to do something that will work. I'm worried there are two many gremlins still hiding in Core 3, but on the other hand the TPS-6X are on its way out.
So my options are: 1) Stay with TST-600 and do all in Core 3, except the TPMC-3SMD, and there are many of them
2) Change to TPS-6X and do all in non-core 3
Reliability is the keyword here.
Regards, Etienne

I just bought a Wenger backpack. I must admit that I always thought laptop backpacks are a bit to "young looking" for me, but wow! How much more comfortable is it than my leather swing bag! My back is loving me again.

Do not use port 41795. It's reserved for Toolbox communications.
I'd suggest a port above 50000 in the unreserved range.

Re: Problems with Carrier Infinity Module
I'm curious if you setup your own polling if you would have the same problem If you set up polling using an OSC to check once per minute, would that continue to check and get a valid response or would it timeout as well? There might be an issue with how often the SAM board will answer back depending on how many zones the system has. I've also used the popup and on-demand polling with success, but if the system is rather large, clients who are impatient will mention it to you :-)

I made a screen pop up that told the user to wait until the poll was complete - about 7 - 10 seconds. If you are putting a 1 on the poll enable I'd bet that's causing the failure. The module didn't seem to hold up for constant accurate feedback if left high at all times.

Hi, I'm using the Carrier Infinity module from Crestron (v2), and I'm having one heck of a time with it. I thought I'd reach out to this group for ideas. Fundamental problem: The module works for a while, then stops querying the HVAC system for information. This can happen in a few hours after boot, or as long as a few days. But eventually, it happens. The obvious result is that displayed data becomes stale. When this occurs, if I do something to change the state of the system (put a zone in HOLD mode, say), then the module will start communicating again. Until it stops again at some later time. Things I have tried to resolve this: 1. First occurred on PRO2. Upgraded to PRO3, no change. 2. Modified code to run in separate "slot" of PRO3 (as a separate program). No change. 3. Put the code on a QM-RMC running older (v3) firmware. No change. 4. Went to Carrier to report the problem, they said Crestron supports the module.
Worked with Crestron. This is ongoing, no solution (yet). I did get a BETA version (v2.3, not on the WWW site yet), but this occurs as well. I believe Crestron verified that they can replicate the problem, but there is no solution as of yet. I did recently upgrade to the Infinity Touch control, which (presumably) allows me to use the Crestron Infinity Touch module (although, with the same SAM board, the old module works perfectly). I can try that if folks are having better luck with that. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks so much! /Jeff

Re: Core3 Media Object performance?
Much smaller job--only 12 panels--and I was using the MMS and iPad for testing. But I found the media object to be very fast. My only objection was that it defaulted to the original Autonomic GUI with browse objects. But I had no speed issues. I have seen network issues effect performance. I added iPod control in the shop just for testing and found it to be fast as well.
I have seen network infrastructure issues seriously impact network performance. Has you network been tested for performance?

Re: Need help to flash crestron lighting when alarm is triggered
You could create a user module with a single symbol in it with an input going to an oscillator and the output of the oscillator as an out of the module Also, create an out of the module that is the output of a not symbol. The input would be the output of the oscillator. So,
Input Output ------------------Osc (0.1s high, 2s low)------------------------Out |----Not-------------------------------------------------Out*
Then, bring this into system builder. Attach the alarm state (I am sure there is a signal out of the module indicating alarm) to the input of this user module and tie the outputs to the lights. The out is the lights on and the out* would be the lights off.

I like to share a Crestron Chrome App I wrote using Angular JS. Chrome App has an API for TCP socket and I thought I would experiment on it and develop an app as UI for a Crestron Control system.
With AngularJS directives you can create custom HTML elements such as
"<crestronsimplebutton join="33" on-state="btn btn-large" off-state="btn">A button</crestronsimplebutton>"
that exhibits special behaviours/animations. I have created 3 simple directives: a button, gauge and text as a proof of concept. If you are familiar with Javascript, you can pick up AngularJS and clone/fork the source code to create/share more directives.

Ownership LOVE Core3 graphics. They love the industrial design of the panels. They like the price. They have yet to catch on to the issue of possible theft. From a marketing and sales perspective Crestron has been quite astute.
Once over the learning curve Core3 is not as bad as some make out. But the learning curve, particularly in the beginning, is steep. The videos are very well done and a very good start. There are worse things in the world than having to code a clock manually, but really, it does call into question the decision tree being used. Why have useless keypads, cursors and tab objects available but no clock object? Old history. But lets bring it up to date. RAVA. A useless example program, that cannot work in the system you will load it. Why might that be? So why put the program out if it has no pedagogic purpose? Why teach the proper way to implement is by data entry into the touch panel rather than serial strings from the program?
Why must I get an error message when placing a tab with the same smart ID on multiple pages/subpages? It does no harm so why not allow me to turn the damned thing off--or better yet why have a smart ID for what is nothing more than a button graphic? I get it that these objects will fit into Studio's grand design but that is something for the future. Why bring these syntactical issues into being now? Dumb comment, but, perhaps, you can sense the frustration that comes with implementing this "improvement." Managing CED files has finally become easier but why did it take so long to implement a feature that ought to have been part of the original release? Finally, the inability to properly save a 750 as a 1050 makes one wonder not merely about engineering decisions but marketing as well.
Someone in Rockleigh must think that Marie Antoinette was correct when she said, of disgruntled Sans-Culottes, let them eat cake. I don't think Crestron gave much thought to the impact on programmers and programming till the outcry reached a crescendo and the result has been a mad scramble to silence the uproar with PR campaign to keep the dogs from barking overmuch. Clearly, they're listening. We now have a clock object in our Core3 toolbox.

As others have said John great to see that you are taking notice and taking the time to reply.
My main complaint with the Core 3 stuff is lack of training, We live on the other side of the planet so I don't know if you guys have specific training for Core 3 in the US. Our sales guys here love selling new stuff....TSW 1050 and 750's being their favourite... So it leaves us to carry on regardless of our opinions, On starting my first Core 3 a while ago I rang up our support here in Oz and was told to watch the videos on the website as that was all there was, it helped a little but no way explained the nuances of switching from the old VT Pro. So again its doing stuff self taught so you really don't know if you are really doing it the correct or quickest way

Sounds like I'd better show up at Master's class this year - because none of that feedback made it back to me.
Look, we can't do everything and we can't do it all immediately. And yes, inertia sometimes comes into play. The bottom line is that Fred and I do very much care what you have to say and please don't stop telling us what you want and need.
In a lot of cases of course, everyone wants something different and so "make a product that is this" sorts of comments are good but of course will take the longest to gel. In other cases, there may be infrastructure shifts that we've made (and in some cases those shifts are still looking years down the road) and so the request is backtracking from the bigger picture.
We have made a lot of changes in engineering over the last year to improve quality and change some of the direction - but it takes months and months for those efforts to show up at your doorstep.
To address a few things that I've seen recently...
- I lost track of who updated the splash screens in the software but I thought that was classic. I am sorry that it was done out of frustration but thanks for giving me a chuckle.
- No engineering resources were harmed in updating the icons. Frankly, I was surprised as you were to see them changed. That doesn't go through Architecture review!
- Rebooting the TSW nightly is a stopgap. Creating an embedded product these days is much more complicated than it was years ago and has all sorts of operating system and supplier nuances (and legalities on source code, etc). But we have been actively pursuing solutions for some time now. I am a frustrated as you are that we are still doing this.
- Crestron Studio - well, I think the answer is that it isn't ready for anybody on this forum. I'll be honest, my team doesn't use it either. But as someone pointed out, if we don't get the feedback from everyone here it will never be what you want. But, the database thing has been well discussed and there is agreement that what is there is not appropriate for what many of you are doing. So, there will be changes. But not soon enough - that nasty priority thing again. The immediate goal it to improve upon on the program generation aspects of the system to allow more automatic system generation. I wouldn't call it System Builder but maybe System Builder re-imagined, where logic is generated but not untouchable, and customizations and mix and match code really work. Probably not of any interest to this group, but we need it in the market as a whole.
- Meanwhile, we have been investing heavily in SIMPL Windows and VTPro. For example, SIMPL Windows is going to be getting the automatic CED File management that it so very sorely needs.
- And for those about to jump on why do we even have CED files, I do have a skunk works project to try and produce at least a flat view dpad and number pad. Haven't quite figured out the best way to release it yet.
So, while we don't necessarily share back what we've heard and what we are doing about it, we do listen and it does cause change. Probably not as fast as you want it and probably not everything you want but don't stop sharing.
I want Crestron to be the best that it can be. And to do that we need the continued support of all of you. You all are a big part of what Crestron has become and I need you to continue to do that. I know its frustrating at times. As I lie awake at 3am staring at the ceiling I think about these things too! But I think together we can continue to make strives and be a mutual success.
I will see many of you at CEDIA so that you can complain in person! And I think most of you know how to get it touch with me one way or another so feel free.

Re: PMC2 X PMC2 Intersystem
EISC isn't available on the PMC2. You have to make do with creating a TCP/IP Server in one system, a TCP/IP Client in the other, setting them to connect to each other, then using XSIG symbols to get your signals back and forth across that connection.

And that's they weird part from my point of view; my customer with a house full of DIN's, Infinet keypads, TSW's and Crestron motion sensors must pay for the iPad app, and my other customer with just one MC3 in the boardroom gets it for free. Like I said, reversed incentive...

I don't really understand. How have they paid for iPad functionality in their system already?

That's not true, these 30 iPads will not be on the same Apple ID. I don't mind my customers paying $99 for the iPad app, but think that customers that have paid for iPad functionality in their system should not have to pay twice. The explanation is techy, communication to customers should always be solution driven imo.

For $99? Hell if they have 1 iPad it is $99. If they have 30 iPads, it is $99. Sounds like a non-issue. You have a multiple factor of that invested in redesigning the panels.
Could be worse. AMX is over $700 PER DEVICE because they use a licensing system and the customer doesn't buy the app (it's free). They buy a license from YOU. That is a lot tougher to explain but is still WAY cheaper than buying an AMX/Crestron touch panel.

Hey guys, am I the only one who finds it hard to explain to my customers who bought the Mobile Pro app recently that if they want to upgrade their experience they need to purchase the upgrade for another $99?
