Re: Good timing
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi Mike,
??????????? As of
right now I have no spare parts while trying to put as many of these cars
together as I can.
I know that down the road I

I have been interested in these cars for a few years now, and last month I aquired 4 Comutacars. These cars have been sitting in the weather for about 7-8 year, but I think I can make 2 to 3 out of the 4. I have one I'm working on now that I've removed all parts from under the car sand blasted, painted, replaced all shocks, all brake lines, and master cylinder. Will bleed system this week end, and start on the wiring. I will send in pictures later of this project. Parts Interchange (was Re: Good timing)
Mike Chancey
Hi folks,
I would like to make a data base of parts interchanges for the C-cars. Basically, whenever someone finds a perfect interchange, let us know with full part numbers. I will try to make a database of this info and add it to the C-Car homepage files. Somewhere I have a partial listing from my Citicar, and I will attempt to locate that and get it into the system. This is an example of what I have in mine: Brake System: Master Cylinder 74-78? Citicar (single master) Wagner #** 78-82? Comutacar (dual master) Wagner #** Thanks, Mike Chancey, C-Car Moderator '88 Civic EV Kansas City, Missouri EV List Photo Album at: My Electric Car at: Mid-America EAA chapter at: Join the EV List at: |

little cars and bringing them back into service. I too am currently in the process of bringing a Comutacar back "from the dead". I acquired mine from the original owner who had purchased it back in 1980. After driving it for only a couple of months, he decided that electric cars weren't for him and parked it in his back yard where it sat for the next 20 years! Fortunately for me the car was parked in a heavily shaded area of the yard so the body was spared the effects of UV damage. As you can imagine, however, rain completely deteriorated both foam covered bumpers, leaked into and rusted all exterior light sockets, seeped into the dasboard corroding numerous contacts, switches and wire terminals, and made a general mess of things. There was even some green moss growing on the top of the dashboard! The inside of the car also apparently served as a home for numerous generations of field mice and insects throughout the years. All in all, thanks to its all plastic body and aluminum chassis, though, I think it survived far better than most cars would have for being outside for 20 years. My goal is to systematically go through the entire car and restore it back to its original condition. I am also planning on replacing the master cylinder and shocks and would like to hear where you located the replacements and the manufacturer's part numbers that you used. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you T.C. Mann -----Original Message----- |

Whose here? I have two 1980 Comuta-cars
I have owned seven C-cars over the last three years. I fixed up and
sold some of them and junked/parted out two of them. I now have two Comuta-cars. The yellow Comuta-car is stock (I need a F/R contactor assembly and field coils - I have lots of other spare parts if anyone is interested), and the brown one has been modified. See at: Scott Hull |
Stuff
Thought I'd touch base. Have a 1981 Comutacar and a '76 Citicar. Have
had the '81 running and registered. Have a Golftech 72V 400A Curtis 1205 upgrade. Have been having numerous failures under warranty. Have just voided my warranty by taking the unit out of the case and will mount it on a finned heat exchanger inside a piece of 6" pvc pipe with a 24V 6" muffin type fan on while the unit is running. The car runs like butter at 72V with golfcart type tires. Much more stable and does not feel like a death trap. Will be another couple weeks before getting it running. Has anyone else had a rash of problems with Curtis controllers. Have all the attendant surge and arc suppressors. Failures seem to be temperature related. Hey, it was interesting to get inside the unit anyway. Tom Gocze |

Thanks Mike for starting this list! The attached photo worked for me too, though I would rather see a policy of no attached pictures on the list, especially since egroups has an archive that we can all use. thanks again, Andrew '76 CitiCar ------------ Mike Chancey wrote:

Re: What a cool idea!
Royce,
Good progress! The waviness in the paint is because the C-car designers neglected to crown most of the panels. Nothing can be perfectly flat. You can't design a flat plastic (or metal) panel with a shiney surface and have it look right. So almost all large panels are crowned just slightly so that they reflect light in a pleasent way. Hi folks,
It looks like attachments don't work on this list. I will look into exactly why, and see if it can be corrected. There is an alternative though, part of what comes with this egroup is an on-line archive for documents and files including images. Just go to: and click on "files". You will find we can also do things like polls, chat, create a database, or add weblinks. I have already transferred over a number of C-Car weblinks, but feel free to add more. I have a 1980 Commutacar (that looks like it's part of the Smurf cartoon show from the 70's). My family calls it the "Smurf-mobile" :-) Picture is attached. Mike mike_holland@... -----Original Message-----

This came after months of body work, because I had to graft on a new roof, and fix several cracks and holes (many thanks to Scott Hull). All that is left is to install the controller (upgraded curtis 1205 500 amp), batteries (8 Trojan T875 8 volts) and fix the tires and lights. Here is a picture of its current state: (It's all the same color of green, those lighter spots are reflections, something we're not used to seeing coming off a citicar) It should be up and running in the next few months.
