Re: Lester Charger

Dave Conrad

What I plan to do is to put it on ebay, that way everyone can see some
pictures of it. Probably will be put on in the next few days. I will email
you the link when I put it on, thanks for the interest.

NEW 48 volt PowerPulse system

bbsux

1 48 Volt Powerpulse NEW-UNOPENED For Sale. I will be soon upgrading
to 64 volts and will not need this anymore.

Paid $179.95. I will pay for UPS shipping if some one wants it...

PowerPulse is the first and only one of its kind in the world. Like
Solargizer, the PowerPulse? Battery Maintenance System also uses pulse
technology to eliminate sulfation buildup on battery plates. The
difference is this patented electronic device is powered by the
battery's own energy rather than solar power. It collects a small
amount of the battery's energy, reconditions it, then pulses it back
into the battery to remove sulfates from the plates.

The PowerPulse? system can also be used together with an existing
charging system. In fact, it will work even faster and stronger.
This means batteries can be both charged and desulfated at the same
time.

Ensures peak battery performance by eliminating the main cause of
lead-acid battery failure, sulfation buildup and related
problems

Extends battery life dramatically
Provides greater charge acceptance so batteries recharge faster and
with better quality

ev batteries

Does anyone know who makes a 6 volt golf car lead battery with external cell interconnections so I can tap off 14 volts for lights and relays like the old trojans (ie. 1970s) ?
Thanks, Don

Alex,
Just got an estimate for rebuilding my C-Car motor... $750 !! He also
said finding a replacement motor for your car would be next to impossible
(at least through him). You might check with NuKar (901) 853-8021 they
might have some advise. Also, you might consider a wanted ad on the EV
Trading Post
Maybe there is one out there somewhere. Good luck, sorry I couldn't help.

I just purchased citicar with no motor in it. Is there any hope for
me? Should I look into getting a different rear end? The guys at
evparts.com said that I should get a ez go golf cart rear end for it,
and they could supply up to a 40 hp motor for that rear end(too much
for me 5-10hp is fine) and that the brakes were compatible with the
citicars. Disregarding their advise, I won a Cushman golf cart rear
end and motor on ebay for $120 this week, I will see if I can get it
to fit when it gets here.

I would rather just rebuild and bolt in a citicar motor if possible
though.

Anyone out there have any of these beasts laying around?

Thanks, Alex.

The car gets great speed at 37 top, (At least I think so!).
So far I have gone 15 miles before my pack needs me to stop and
recharge with my emergency generator.

I hate these darn 8 volt batteries. Anyone trade me for some 6 volts?
LOL

Anyway, I need some recomendations of ways to get more spped out of
the car. I checked the brakes already and they are not rubbing.
I used my '75 Citicar to commute to P&W from Manchester CT for 8 yrs and needed more speed to keep up with the commute trafic on a one lane road so I added a 2volt cell to each 24 volt string ( to keep them balanced for parralel operation ) bringing series voltag to 52 volts. This brought max speed on level up to about 42mph. Like already suggested make sure front disc brakes dont drag. After a couple miles without using any brakes except hand brake, feel front rotors, they should not be hot.

Re: Little bit of an update...

From NuCar: Give it the one-hand push test, and see if it rolls easily.

Check tire pressures, and check for bent tierods which would cause wheels
to either toe-in or toe-out, causing a loss of efficiency. Front wheel
bearings adjusted properly?

Make sure that all battery terminals are clean and connections to relays
and motor are also tight. Check all battery cells with a hydrometer when
fully charged, to identify any weak ones.

That is all I can think of...

Alex,
I am awaiting an estimate on rebuilding my C-Car motor as well as another GE
motor from an Elec-trac garden tractor. Our local motor shop was unable to
find parts and sent the motors to a shop in Ohio to see if repair or
replacement with another rebuilt is an option. When I talk to them I will
see if any other motors are available and find out the name and address of
their company.

Hi Alex

I've had a CommutaCar for just about a year and met a guy
recently with a CitiCar that was involved in a serious shop fire in
January. I haven't seen the car yet but will be talking to him this
week and I will find out what condition the motor is in and if it
is available. He did mention that the fire was so intense, there was
nothing left to body and frame, and the diff oil got so hot it boiled
off.

I'll keep you posted,

Re: little help...

Well, I can get a little better than 15 miles (very hilly between my
house and work, about 6.5 miles.)

Top speed of 45, probably can go faster, but I don't feel the need.

8 volt batts were used yes.

The charger that the person I bought it from put in is a manual one
he made for it... It has a variac (spelling) and a bridge rectifier. This
way I can charge fast or slow. I am planning on getting a regular
charger though. This one is way too difficult to use with my Honda
2000i generator (super quiet, great for this, fits behind the seat.). It
can pull more than 13 amps (on the lowest setting) from the
generator and it will shut down, but only on big hills.

I plan on getting a solid state charger with a 5amp and 10 amp
limiter on it...

Oh YUH, Gasoline! :^)

Actually, I have seen a Citicar converted to ICE, though this one was
fueled with hydrogen. I don't recall too much of the details, I think it
had a small one cylinder engine, fairly large though, maybe 10-12 HP. I
think it had a snowmobile style variable pulley belt drive.

Keep in mind you will have to have some sort of tranny. That may make
things a bit more challenging.
