BPQMAIL crashes after upgrade of BPQ32 to 6.0.24.62
Hi all,
?
I've upgraded my BPQ32 running on Windows 10 to the version 6.0.24.62.
BPQMAIL has been upgraded to 6.0.24.62 as well.
When I execute BPQMAIL it runs for few seconds and then it crashes.
I tried also to downgrade to BPQMAIL 6.0.24.54 and the behaviour is the same.
?
This is what I can see from the Event Viewer:

Re: New Version
I think I read that syslog is depreciated in this version of Ubuntu, but I can look at pulling the equivalent if that's the case. Yesterday it was the same station, but when I first saw it happen in .56, it involved a different station. Yes, on .53 connections do work from the stations involved. I was running .62 separately from the normal systemd service yesterday. Today I'll run it in a service with an auto-restart in place. I should see multiple restarts and will look to get the logs including syslog or equivalent.? 73, Lee K5DAT On Mon, Feb 17, 2025 at 1:09?AM John G8BPQ via <john.wiseman=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: New Version
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThanks, Lee.I checked the code and there haven¡¯t been any significant changes to the VARA code since .53 so something odd is going on. Do you have the syslog for the time of this crash? Is it always the same station that causes the crash and do connections from him usually work? Thanks, John On 17/02/2025 00:20, Lee Bengston via

Re: WhatsPac
Hi Mark,
?
I think you might be getting confused, as XRouter doesn't use MAP statements. If you are using XRouter, the MAP statements go in the BPQ configuration, to allow BPQ and XRouter to talk at layer 4.
?
However, if you are a BPQ sysop, you no longer need XRouter, as WhatsPac will now interface directly to BPQ.

Update - it went down again in sync with an incoming VARA connection - from the same station. I reverted to .53 afterward. Re: WhatsPac
The equipment at GB7NBH has been moved and the radios are off at the moment.. I believe that it will be back up and running Tomorrow at some point.. This will account for not progressing to the Whatspac server..
?
If you can connect to KIDDER, then connect to me at GB7BDH.. I have a direct link to MB7NPW/Whatpac on Port 4..? |
Re: WhatsPac
I believe the longer term plan for WhatsPac is to have sort of federared servers, a side effect of which would probably be that separate networks could exist, so there could be a US one in time. That said if you can find a fast route in to the UK that would be interesting too! It's a new project in alpha but it's very cool, some more information will hopefully soon be added at if anyone wants to follow, there's not much there just yet though. Re: WhatsPac
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI don't? use xrouter. The new WhatsPac interface in BPQ removes the need for it.WhatsPac is just a BPQ application. You connect to the node that runs it and type the application, so need to be able to connect to the MB7NPW node. If you already have axip links to a node in the uk you may be able to find your way to it. I probably shouldn't have raised expectations by mentioning it! 73, John On 16/02/2025 20:06, Mark Taylor wrote:

Re: WhatsPac
John, I can see that if it were an RF connection.? If you choose I am a BPQ Sysop and want to set up an L4 connection I thought the instruction would take your information, have you install a MAP line to your XRouter, and the far end (MM7NPW) would dynamically install a map line to your XRouter, creating an AXIP path from MB7NPW to your XRouter, then to your BPQ node call.
?
Maybe I was just too optimistic.

Re: New Version
I did get a "
SIGSEGV Receive" crash while I was out dealing with the results of the latest snowfall. I was not using gdb at the time. When I use gdb it behaves as if setcap was not done, and I lose port 25 for smtp incoming from Claws mail, and I lose protocol 93/AXIP, which results in all of my 44-net links going down. This looks similar to others I've seen when an incoming VARA connection comes in.

Re: New Version
Update, it crashed when I checked the BBS box on a user where it was previously unchecked, and then clicked "Update". I wasn't doing that when it went down before, so I think this is possibly a different issue. I have restarted it via gdb. It does seem to be more stable using the pre-compiled binary. That said, I did see
"SIGSEGV Received" crashes on the .56 binary (i.e. not compiled) after upgrading from .53, which appeared to be the same that N3MEL and WW6Q saw on the .59 code. [New Thread 0xab5fd420 (LWP 18985)] [Thread 0xab5fd420 (LWP 18985) exited] [New Thread 0xab5fd420 (LWP 18996)] Thread 269 "linbpq" received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. Re: WhatsPac
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýYes, it works but you need to be able to connect to node PEWSEY:MB7NPW. You need to work out your own connect script to get there.I suggest you try out the route manually before you enter it in the WhatsPac setup. 73, John On 16/02/2025 14:13, Mark Taylor wrote:

WhatsPac
Has anyone been sucessful connecting the client to the server using your BPQ node?
?
?
As far as I have progressed is Step 1 of 3: Connecting to G4OTJ's node GB7NBH. The Xrouter indicator is green.? The Server goes from Red to Pink(?) at the moment I click Connect, then remains that way for the duration.? I have waited for a couple of hours with no change.
?
I get an enty in my MHeard list from my node call.
The locked route entry is a different call, but I have tried my node call in there as well.
The locked route never shows the > indicating a connection.
Nothing ever shows in the Links page that I could see.
The client (web page: ) is on a machine on the same LAN, and LOCALNET is defined and works (no passwords ever asked.)
?
The directions were not clear to me if the locked route is from a unique call assigned to the Xrouter or if it shares the node call.? Any definitive answer for that would be appreciated.
Nor was there any indication that we should choose a unique alias.
?
Anyone else have similar results?
Anyone with a sucessful connection that can give any insight?
?
In the meantime, I will hook up a monitor and try it on the BPQ host machine.

Re: New Version
I decided to start over using the .62 pilinbpq binary from the beta downloads area. I have had problems with compiled versions recently ever since upgrading from Ubuntu 22.04 to 24.04, so I wanted to take that out of the equation. It's running now under gdb - will try to watch it closely. Thanks, Lee K5DAT On Sun, Feb 16, 2025 at 12:30?AM John G8BPQ via <john.wiseman=[email protected]> wrote:
