And your machines are much happier, too. ?The Atlas was designed for less than 1 HP, and there are lots of parts - the back gears, the bull gear lock pin, etc. - that could easily be broken by too

Man a lot of members here like gadgets if you want to control the speed on your lathe i would use a in line ( power line ) control.? ?I think it may be cheaper and easy to install? GP

If you do not need a continuous speed reading, one solution would one of those relatively inexpensive, hand held, laser units with digital readout.? I believe the counter within is crystal

Why 3hp? Besides that is what treadmill motors are. I doubt these lathes and mills need much more hp than what they were designed for. One might be throwing money at things that don't really need it.
