??? ??? Well I'm hopin mine is a good unit . I had just bought a
Enco round column mill that needed a fair amount of work , but i
bought it real good . The KBC mill along with a 1980's Enco 11x22
lathe came to me by way of a bud's dad after sitting under a tarp
& custom made wooden enclosure for @ 20 years . His dad told
me that 99 %of his work was with plastics . Based on the boxes I
got with it full of Lexan & some other stuff I have no reason
not to believe his statement .

??? ??? I have the import brother of that mill , though I was told mine was purchased in the 80's & it was made in Taiwan . It's still under a blanket ,I haven't looked for a origin tag yet? but I'm gettin closer every day .

If you are near PA, this will make a nice basement mill. Comes apart in 3 or 4 pieces to be manhandled down the stairs, if I remember correctly.?

There is a vertical shown. I have never seen one directly but your class certainly could have had one.
Mine is just like the blue horizontal one but the head is a Rusnok 70 vs the Rotex head.

As mentioned, mine is a model 70.? I think that is older than the 850?? Its good but I yearn for larger cutter capability for facing steel stock. The recent MLA cross slide project tested the limits of both the Rotex and Rusnok. The Y collet spindle limits me to 1/2" shanks.? The largest face mill (that I am still too scrooge to buy) is 2".? Anyhow, no plans to change.? Just keep maintaining and learning how to compensate for the ideosyncracies. Happy to own them.

Rusnok is a great machine. I have a model 850 and it is rock solid and accurate. It even has a nodding head feature and a well-functioning quill.?
The target market was precision toolroom use, like most of the Rusnok equipment. I also have a high precision drill press for tiny drill bits, and it is also a jewel of a machine.?
At the end of the day, it depends on your use. If you earn money with it, it will probably not hold a candle to a full cnc rig. if you do it for hobby and accuracy, you will be hard pressed to do better on a small budget.?
Just think of a used Monarch 10EE. You would not trade that for a modern chinese lathe, if they were in the same price range. Same applies here, although the rusnok is more in line with hardinge than monarch (and they never made lathes).?
Oh, and I really like the Precision Matthews machines. They all seem to have baked in some extra thoughtfulness and generally require less re-working than Grizzly, Jet, and others. This means, I am not knocking Precision Matthews at all.?
This is my 2 cents ($9.38 in 2023, after inflation) and your mileage may vary

not buy it for 3k today.? I'd jump right over to one of the many offerings from Precision Mathews at that price point.
I don't understand the current pricing.

had a Rotax mill . We had one in hi school metal shop but it was a
vertical , or at least my memory says so . It sat next to the
Bridgeport . We got to use the Rotax only the teach was allowed to
use the Bridgeport . Yea the pricing is today is crazy , I do like
some of those PM machines .

The original Atlas rotary table and centers are rare and could be resold for enough to bring down the total price to be reasonable. ?? It does have the arbor support, which is desirable and valuable.?
