Fun With Packaging, Track Department
Well, this is likely to be the least important thing you'll see today...
Atlas track has been packaged in several different ways, including during the A1G time period.? A version I either haven't seen or haven't seen in a long time recently appeared on eBay.? It was conveniently offered with a more common version of packaging. Note the racing car with the Atlas trademark!? This harkens back to the days when Atlas made a short-lived foray into slot cars.? Only the HO Scale "Refreshment Stand" remains from that product line. Here's the image-- no affiliation with the seller. Cheers, George (your list-owner) |
I have been aware of the pink card package but have never seen one in person, that I know of, anyway. I may have seen them hanging in a hobby shop and just don't remember. Atlas had HO in that package, too, but it must have been as or almost as short-lived as the HO slot cars. I also think it was the only time N and HO shared a common packaging scheme.

Also, it is very important, at least to any A1G fan. \:*)

Use it up, wear it out... good reuse of older packaging materials I suppose. I wonder what racing?accessory this card was originally intended for? Like Doug I may have seen these at our local hobby shop, but any real memory has faded from view. I hadn't thought of these cards originally being intended only for their HO slot cars and just put the car on there because they were the big deal, at the time, but you could be right. The cards could be bubbled with anything that would fit on them.
?
I almost exclusively had Aurora Thunderjet 500 stuff so I don't remember, at all, seeing Atlas bubble pack slot car stuff.

I'm pretty sure that in my perusal of the Model Railroader Magazine DVD that there were ads for Atlas HO Scale Racing Sets.? Now, if I can remember the issues in which they appeared...
If it wasn't that long before A1G then it's entirely possible that there were leftover Auto Racing cards, as we've seen. --George |
They should be in about 1964 - 1966 issues, of which I have very few, as that's when the big slot car craze was. I got my Aurora set for Christmas of 1964.
?
I did do a google search for "Atlas HO Motoring" as that's what Atlas named their series, but didn't see anything mounted on the pink style card. Most of the stuff was in blue and yellow boxes, similar to Aurora. Oddly enough, I did see a track section mounted on a card with the typical N scale colors - kind of the off orange color at the top and the rest yellow.

Aurora all the way, baby! My fastest car was a Stingray. Kevin Blair Chanute, KS On Thu, Sep 29, 2022 at 12:59 PM Douglas Gosha via <dgosha=[email protected]> wrote:

Mine was a white Ford CT with aluminum wheels and silicone slicks, brush spring "enhancement" and added weight in the rear. None of my friends' cars could touch it. It was a bit tricky because it would do wheelies very easily. It sure hugged the track, though.

My stepson now has the car. He collects HO scale slot cars and has some pretty valuable ones. I gave him my 1964 Thuderjet set #1302 and my cars in a Pit-Kit carrying case, extra track and obstacle course set.
