Re: Mystery Heinz 57 Vinegar Car?
I found my four E-R Models/Roco Vinegar Cars:
040-70360 Heinz 57 040-70361 Richter Vinegar Corp. 040-70362 Standard Brands 040-70363 Fleischmann Transportation Co. The Heinz 57 is not the same as either of the Heinz cars pictured earlier in this thread.? It has a smaller '57' blue flat car and road number 200. More later.? Not sure how much later "later" will be. George (your list-owner) |
Re: Mystery Heinz 57 Vinegar Car?
See how you are? :D I sneakily thought you might be remembering the H&S car.
Anyway, I was referencing this thread in a discussion on the Trainboard forum about the vinegar cars and saw these later posts. Sorry nobody got back to you, Chuck, but yes, threads have veered off into mentioning other brands from the same time period and I guess that's OK, especially if manufactured by RoCo or Rivarossi the same two that made the Atlas cars. Re: New Photos of 3120 Series 'Big Pig Palace' Stock Cars on A1G Site
"I'm still mystified as to why I can't post the direct link and have it send you right to that page."
Perhaps because of your 'frames' setup G?? (Inside the sausage factory alert) Yes, that is exactly the problem.? The frames setup works as intended for the UMTRR and the Irwin's Journal Online sections - the top frame stays where it is and the chosen page, even when linked to directly, is presented in the bottom frame. I have no intention of changing this, but I would like to make it work.? Unfortunately, that's about #497 on my list of things to do. --George |
New Photos of 3120 Series 'Big Pig Palace' Stock Cars on A1G Site
Gang,
I've reshot the photos for the four 'Hi-Cube" Stock Cars, the A1G 3120 Series and posted them on the appropriate page.? The old images, actually scans (!) were a mere 19 years old. I'm still mystified as to why I can't post the direct link and have it send you right to that page.? (It looks like the same HTML as I use for the UMTRR and Irwin's Journal Online pages, where it does work.? Insert "banghead" here.)? So you'll need to access the page and the new photos from the main page drop-down menu in the upper frame or the table in the lower frame. http://www.irwinsjournal.com/a1g I've added a little bit of prototype information as well. Cheers, George (your list-owner) |

Tom, I didn't realized you lived in Webster... as you know, I've been in the Rochester area since 1989!? Charlotte, Ellison Park, Henrietta and now along the long-gone Rochester and Sodus Bay right of way in Irondequoit.
Meanwhile, the search for the catalog cover continues... --George |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýYou have my deepest sympathies Tom, I know how frustrating that can be. ? Why do you have to keep the boxes? ? or ? Why would you keep an (out of date catalog, magazine, event poster etc)? ?.All I can say is, after I die, please don¡¯t let my wife sell my collection for what she thinks it¡¯s worth. George ,?
? ?I once had the ATLAS CATALOGS 1960's to 2013 however due to a move from webster, NY in 2013 one of my two Sister s had Purged them .. deemed them as Useless and ?Not needed . This also goes for my Last N-SCALE Layout which my Late Mother and I built together was ?Tagged and marked for the move , instead it was either sold at a estates sale or tossed by the wayside as Trash ! most of the Buildings etc were ATLAS a1g ! Re: Helper Service: Need Hi-Res Photo of 1967 Catalog Cover
Tom, thanks.??? This is David K. Smith's site, a great resource by the way.
I'm not comfortable "borrowing" his photo of the catalog however.? I don't think that's fair use.? So I'm looking for an original photo that I can provide to NSE without any restrictions. --George |

George ,?
?? ? ? Here is a Link at to where the Full ?ATLAS 1967 CATALOG can be found > ??Click the return icon it should give you the Beginning of the ATLAS CATALOG From 1967 and correspondening Numbers follow to pages in the 1967 ATLAS CATALOG.? Tom |

Hi gang, --George, your list-owner |
July 1967...
On Page 71, also the inside back cover of the July 1967 Model Railroader... check the bottom right hand corner.? It's the milestone I've been looking for!
It was previously mentioned in the "Trade Topics" column in April and June 1967 that Atlas was planning to introduce a line of N "Gauge", but this is the first Atlas advertisement that mentions it.? Interestingly, the "At The Throttle" editorial in that same July 1967 MR cautions that we should refer to N "Scale" not N "Gauge" because there was already HOn2 1/2, or HO Scale trains running on N Scale track. Re: How to make illuminated cars work

Make sure the insulated wheels (the ones with the black insert pressed into the center of the wheel match up for each truck, when looking at the car turned upside down the one truck they are on the same side and the other truck they are on the other side. Make sure that the wipers do contact the axles. I remember trying to run a City Of Los Angeles with eight Atlas cars and five Con Cor cars, the drag from the wipers required four powered PA1s to move the thing. At full throttle it hardly went over a scale 20 mph because of the draw from the light bulbs.? Michael

I guess I was assuming he meant he has the original parts but yes, he could mean he has parts for an different setup.
?
BTW, the manufacture date from Rivarossi on the Penn Central coach to which I was referring is 3/69, before we went to the moon!

Re: How to make illuminated cars work
The way they work is, the wheel wipers collect the current from the wheels in the trucks from one rail on one end of the car and the other rail on the other end of the car. The wipers then bear against the truck screws which are screwed into the supports inside the car and the two rails for the bulb are also screwed into the supports
?
The rails then supply current to the bulb, one bearing against the outer conductor and the other against the inner or middle conductor.
?
The most important thing, other than all parts being there, is to completely clean every part, including the wheels. After all these years dirt and oxidation/corrosion are the biggest detriments to them lighting up. Make sure the wheels on one truck have the insulators on one side and the wheels on the other truck have the insulators on the opposite side.
