How to make illuminated cars work

I have a set of Daylight illuminated passenger cars that I would like to work. I have all the parts but can¡¯t seem to get them to illuminate. Disassembled the lights work on the metal frame. Can someone explain the right way to work?

Re: ATLAS ? M. H. L. X. - ENJAY Refrig. Car

It gets better...

I searched on "Enjay" in the eBay N Scale section and found all five sale listings Michael mentioned.

However, there are three variations of the Enjay sticker!? There are "Vistalon," already mentioned, "Butyl" and "Chorobutyl".? $21 or $21.96 each... no thanks.

But wait, there's more... an "Enjay Promotional Set" which includes one of the A1G stickered boxcars, one of the Bachmann stickered boxcars, a Bachmann Santa Fe F-9, a Minitrix B&M auto rack, and an AHM Santa Fe caboose, plus a "Thunder Line" (AHM) power pack and track.? It also looks like there's a poster promoting / showing the flow of Enjay products to manufacturers.? It's quite the mixture of "Early N Scale."? I wonder how many of these exist, and I think now we know some of the origin of the Enjay cars.? $22.35 shipping from Michigan is a bit much...

Perhaps a footnote on the Enjay stickered A1G car is in order on the A1G website...

George (your list-owner)

Just checked on EBay and there are five of these cars for sale right now. I have no connection with any of these items that are for sale. But now I know that? there was at least eight cars done this way.

That's a good one!? I have never seen it.

If I recall correctly, "Enjay" was a spellout of "NJ" or "New Jersey," my home state, similar to how "Esso" is a spellout of "S.O." for Standard Oil, in this case "of New Jersey" which was one component of the broken-up Standard Oil Trust.? With ExxonMobil, also known as Standard Oil of New Jersey plus Standard Oil of New York plus lots of other companies, a lot of that trust is back together again... but I digress...

Tom,
Here is what I know, more of what I don't know. Yes the car is Atlas but it was a Miller High Life reefer car. Some one; don't know who bought up some of the Atlas cars, don't know how many and place a Enjay/ vistalon sticker over the Miller Beer Hearld, don't know for what purpose. Enjay Plastics was division Enjay Chemicals, Atlas dose a very nice center flow hopper these days for this company. Vistalon is a compound added to rubber in the production of drive belts, CV boot covers and floor mats to name a few item.
I saw one of these car for sale last Aug. on EBay, so with your two and that one there are a least three cars out there.

Re: Prototypes for A1G Cars: The Streamlined Passenger Cars

MIKE

George,
The baggage mail car that was done? in N scale was different that the HO one. The car is correct, but for only the Monon railroad. It was model after their post war cars that were rebuilt from surplus US Army hospital cars. In fact they had only two that look like the Atlas car. The 10-6 Huron Rapids is correct for only the Huron Rapids. The other two that were in the same batch had rectanged windows were as the Huron Rapid had a square with rounded corners window. Atlas/Rivarossi did N scale a favor by modeling some very unique cars.??

Another in an occasional series of tripping over prototype information...

The prototypes for the three 2630 series passenger cars -- Baggage/RPO Car, Sleeper and Blunt End Observation -- were used in the Pennsylvania Railroad's "Broadway Limited" passenger train.? I was able to back into this information via the reviews of their HO Scale counterparts in Model Railroader Magazine's September 1966 and February 1967 issues.? The HO cars were imported into the United States by AHM but like the N Scale cars they were manufacturered by Rivarossi.? They are different sized models of the same cars.? I've validated this via personal inspection.

Well, that's three body styles, anyway!? Besides the correct PRR paint scheme (tuscan red, gold lettering, black roof) these cars were also offered in Union Pacific and Chicago & North Western roadnames.? Images of all of these cars are on the A1G site, look for the "Passenger Car" page which is presently the last entry in the pulldown in the top frame of the home page.

A1G PRR Boxcars (was 2200 update)

The different paint variations on the various Pennsylvania Railroad boxcars might be balanced by the idea that they all have the same road number!

I have a couple of these, but I'm in "casual search" mode-- if I see something, and it's reasonably priced, then I pick it up.?

As for label variations... yikes, can't go there :D

Re: Update to A1G 2200 40 Foot Boxcar Page.

I think the funniest label variation is the BAR one. "State of Main, State of Mane, and finally, "State of Maine".

I posted pictures of the three a long time ago.

And PRR B (and theoretically C).
2202 shares the same print variations as 2286.. as does 2331, however 2331 has a color variation as well, so in theory 2202 and 2286 also have the color variatiation.

Also Santa Fe B and C

:)

I've seen the label variations.. I've seen multiple label versions with the same paint scheme..? Has anyone tried to track label version to paint scheme version?

Hi Gang,

I located a 2206b State of Maine boxcar with the variant black lettering so I decided to reshoot all of the photos for the table on that page.? I think it's about time I traded the literally scanned (!) cars for digital images.? I also made the images larger in the pop-ups, since for the most part dial-up speeds are no longer an issue.

Have a look at your leisure.? One of these days I'll figure out how to allow links directly to each page!? (And shoot more replacement photos...)

and just to prove i do read these groups, I prefer to use a scanner for my 'collection' as I group cars by purchase (thereby having an insurance 'factoid' that i bought a bunch); then break down that tiff graphic to individual cars on which I note purchase details. Each then filed by road# (if D&RGW) or maker then road# for all others.

Good work G,
