Thanks John,?
Have sorted it out and ordered the will.

Re: Death Index

Maureen
You need to be careful when entering the dates and be careful because

the first date required is the date of probate which is 19 Oct 1869
the second date is the date of death 13 Sep 1869
Also make sure that what you enter is EXACTLY what is on the probate not what you think it should be

Thank you Lesley and Carole. I dont think this death is mine as my Ann WHITELY was definitely born in 1800., so would be about 64yrs.

Nivard Thomas died 13 September 1869. He lived in Four Lane Ends Manningham. Probate was in Wakefield.

Re: Death Index

You do not need to put in all the details, thats why its not coming up for you

All you need is the year, the surname and key words Four Lanes

Nothing else is needed

And as I said you don't need to even search for it, you have the details to order it (where you do need to fill in the detail)

Re: Death Index

As in the case of the wills, you don't need to put all the details in

Search for the year 1875

The surname = WHITTEY
Forename = Ann
Select Female
District if Death = Bradford

That is all you need to enter, then search, one hit as I posted earlier

Ann WHITLEY 74 Bradford 9b 161
Ann WHITTEY 74 Bradford 9b 161

The GROs indexes on their own site were compiled completely differently to the GRO index on Freebmd

But given the evidence I suspect this is her death reg

Re: Death Index

Hi Maureen

I can assure you it is spelled WHITLEY in the probate calendar

And as its the same probate calender on the GOV site where you order it, its also spelled the same way as WHITLEY

So thats the spelling you need to use to order the will

Hi Maureen,

Try ordering your certificates with the reference numbers you have. Don't bother with a search, just go straight to the ordering a certificate page.? Put in the minimum they ask for and the year along with the GRO reference. Sometimes less is more.? They may have a slightly different spelling.

Check the reference numbers you have before you put the order in.

Re: Frank Herbert GIFFORD

So much does not add up with this extended family.? I found Clara/Louisa on Familysearch.? A direct descendant of hers has posted a lot of information but I need to be wary as some dates are incorrect.? I messaged the?descendant given we are related but so far no response.

I had Clara and John marrying in 1897 so it could be my error or an error on the family search data but the Carleton Schedule states 1898.

I don't have access to the US Naturalisation records and I presume the Petition of which you speak relates to that?

For Clara/Louisa and John I have Clara Maud and Eva Elizabeth born in England, John HUNTER born Canada 1889, Joseph John William HUNTER in Canada 1893, Dorothy Hannah May HUNTER born in Canada in 1899 and Ann M HUNTER (Annie) born in Canada in 1901.

Oral family history from a now deceased MORRISON descendant said that Clara/Louisa was a bit odd.

In a further strange twist Clara/Louisa's second husband Chauncey Post SPEAKER went to a dental appointment and never returned.? Apparently he was never found!

Clara/Louisa was in De Witt State Mental Hospital on 3rd May 1950 in the US Census of that year.? I have her death as 1st April 1953 in California.? Her daughter Dorothy Hannah May HUNTER appears to have gone to live in California.

It is quite a story without any of the other MORRISON family members I have been researching.??

Louisa changed her name to Clara while in England.? ? HUNTER was her married name and the one she used before she married John. She kept that until many years later when she remarried in America to?Chauncey Post SPEAKER.? Louisa/Clara also added in Edith?to her name in records in Canada.

Louisa/Clara had two daughters to John Josiah HUNTER in Portsmouth before they emigrated to Canada.? They did not marry until 1897 after their fourth child was born.? There was also a testing name muddle with my 3x great grandparents Michael and Margaret Morrison,?nee KEHOE.? They used KEHOE for their children's surnames until they finally married in Brighton in 1845 after the birth of their last child.? Their lising in the 1841 UK census is under KEHOE.
