Re: PRR painting ?
Henry, list, Take what you like from the following and enjoy your switchers. :)? ?For your various PRR projects, you'll probably enjoy the Godfather Rails site.?? By the book, the interior of the coal bunker ought to be freight car color (sort of an oxide red), but late steam era photos don't seem to bear this out; see the links below.?? A5s 713's tender looks like it is entirely dark green locomotive enamel.? You might need to copy and paste the links below to get them to work.?? This B6sb is fairly clean, and the entire tender looks like it is dark green locomotive enamel.?? This B6sb (721) is also fairly clean on the sides.? The top sides of the tender are most likely dark green locomotive enamel. This Key model of a B6sb has the entire tender and coal bunker painted dark green locomotive enamel (also known as Brunswick green). To keep this tied into the Yard Bird trains theme, I attached shots of two PRR switchers that I rebuilt around 2003.? Both are painted grimy black (as opposed to dark green locomotive enamel.? The A3 is the AHM/LifeLike/Model Power 0-4-0 repainted to represent a PRR engine that was later sold to the Strasburg RR in the 1920s, while A5s 94 is a Bowser kit representing the A5s from the RR Museum of PA's collection.?? 开云体育Doug, Thanks for doing all the stuff I say everyone should do but I didn’t. Like changing the subject and cropping the posts. What I laughingly refer to as my mind seems to get more laughable every day. I do have an official diagnosis of CRS (Can’t Remember Sh… Stuff) and it shows. Also for pointing out the NYC Modeler site. I know it exists and have downloaded all of the 2017 issues but you provided the issues that involved kit-bashing die cast models. I am downloading several more issues. I don’t do so much of that anymore (who said retirement slows more time for trains) but I still WANT to do more. And I’m a big fan of Mantua steam probably because my first locomotive was a Mantua Mike given to as a Christmas present in 1949, first year of production. Plus, they are plentiful, rugged and were cheap. Nowadays they have crept up in cost but still are okay for those wanting to kit bash, especially with the cost of new models going out of sight. Just a couple of items regards finding Mantua mikes. They all will work for these projects. But, for the best drives you either have to go for very early or very late production. The first two versions, covering production from 1949 to 1953 uses a DC70 (or DS71, as I said memory..) motor with a driveshaft to an enclosed worm with self aligning bearings. Then came the Tyco when they switched to a smaller motor with the worm mounted of the motor shaft. Still decent runners and there is thousands out there. In late production, under the Mantua name again, they came out with their “Power Drive” models that returned to the worm design. John Hagen ? From: yardbirdtrains@... [mailto:yardbirdtrains@...]

Henry, What model are you using to make Nickel Plate 954?? I also like the Nickel Plate and would like to model an H5 2-8-2 at some point.?? There are some shots of 954 on the Fallen Flags site. Doug Kisala

? ? Looking good! That Bowser tender resembles the 130P75 that were most commonly seen behind K4 locos however those tender were originally built as the 130F82 for use behind I1 locos. Eventually, as K4's started coming off of the roster in the 50s, some decapods got those tenders again. There were some branches, like the Cresson ?Branch, that had restrictions on the length of tenders that could be coupled with an I1 ,because of severe curvatures, so the 130F82 was the largest tender that could still fit those parameters. Hello list, I hope all of you have recovered from turkey-induced sleepiness. :) I spent a bit of yesterday and today working on my rendition of surviving PRR I1sa 4483.? I had previously added a decoder and gotten the engine running well with a 130F82a tender (also known as Bowser's 13,000 gallon tender).? I still have to get the right side air pump mounted vertically (I see now there's a bit of a slant) and I have some filing to do to get the cab backplate to fit properly, but I now have proper power for my PRR mineral trains.?? Some notes on her tender follow.?? - When I started
building the model (in the late 1990s), I detailed the kit to represent 4483 as she looked in the late steam era.? I first used a Bowser/Varney USRA tender (which slightly resembles the 90F82 that 4483 is paired with today), and then I purchased a resin tender kit which I could not get running properly.?? - In the late steam era (1952-1957 in this context on the PRR), there were only around four 130F82a tenders running with I1sa engines.?? - However, the model runs really well with the Bowser 13,000 gallon tender, and I'm willing to stick with it until something better comes along.?? - My tender currently lacks a doghouse/brakeman's cabin and other detailing.? These things are on my to-do list once I get the engine completed.?? - If you're modeling the PRR from 1926 to 1949, the 130F82 tender ran with up to 100 I1s (and later I1sa) engines and was much more common with I1s engines durin
g the late 20s and the 1930s.?? - Take what you like from this and enjoy your model railroad. :)? Doug Kisala |

Re: Oregon Rail Supply ?
Ray Breyer
They didn't: the late Dick Yager knew the owners of Overland really well, and bought out their overstock of parts from a NKP NW-2 project. I bought the last four safety cages off of Dick more than a decade ago. One of these days I'll run a kitbashing article on how to scratch the cages for the NKPHTS Modeler's Notebook. Since I'm not a diesel guy it might be a while. Ray Breyer Elgin, IL Editor, NKPHTS Modeler's Notebook
