I haven't played with a DX100. I do have a DX7II with a breath controller. You might try using a breath controller. Look for sounds that have " BC " or " BC1 " (breath controller) in their names. On the DX7 you have to set the keyboard to use the breath controller, even if the sound has BC in the title. Find the Breath controller section and set "EG bias" to 99, also, if there is a Pitch Bias parameter try setting it to 1 to give a little change in pitch as you play louder. Patches generaly have to be set up to use breath controll (MIDI controller C002 or somthing like that if you're controlling another synth). If you get interested in this you might check out www.windsynth.org this outfit is mainly devoted to saxaphone style MIDI controllers like the Yamaha WX5. I've heard that the pitch and modulation wheels are placed pretty well for using the DX100 as a strap on. I've also heard that the DX100 isn't velosity sensitive. The DX100 uses a truncated form of the kind of FM synthesis that the DX7 uses. The DX7 can play any sound made for the DX100 but the DX100 might be able to make sound from some DX7 patches but they might not sound the same. Sombody correct me if I'm wrong about the lack of velosity. DX100 and DX21 compatible ?
Hey, Are DX100 and DX21 patches compatible ? ______________________________________________________________ Gratis e-mail en meer: http://www.dolfijn.nl/ ilse weet nu ook alles van muziek! http://ilsemusic.ilse.nl/

DX7, DX100, DX21,etc. compatibility
It seems that I've heard that the DX7 can load patches made for the earlier 4 operator DX synths. I don't know about direct dumps from one machine to another but the sysex files might be compatible. That's easy enough to check. Loading sysex from different 4 op synths might work fine too. I read that one ( might have been the TX81z) would just ignore pitch envelope information (it didn't have a pitch envelope). DX7 programming from PC
3
I know that there are many libraries of sounds out there for the DX7. Most of them are in .syx format. Does anyone know if SysEx files can be dumped directly into the internal memory of the DX7 by using a PC? I have a P3 650 MHz, 256MB computer with Soundblaster Live! Platinum sound card and Midi interface. Help would be greatly appreciated.

Soundlib.
Just be careful if you have a DX7II. Soundlib doesn't store the extra parameters that a MkII has. For instance, Mod wheel, Aftertouch, and Micro Tuning settings are lost. This can affect the sound of a patch, because when you set the mod wheel (or another modulation source) to modulate amplitude (A mod) every operator that has an Amod setting will get softer. Hi I just bought a TX7 and have some questions. 1. Is there a good shareware editor available? 2. Is there a way to convert the sysex files to standard midi files that i can use in cakewalk (or even store on the zip of my G1000)? 3. Where can i find some good sound banks (pref. *.mid format) Thanks

Please help! DX7 Problems.
Can anyone help me? I acquired a DX7 today, and I already love it, but I've had one or two problems. First off, whenever I try to use one of the ROM carts, when I try to select a sound, I get a "FORMAT CONFLICT!" message. I thought this only happened with RAM carts? What's happening?! Another problem is that the only mod wheel effect that works is pitch. EG BIAS and AMP have no effect. I tried adjusting the senstitivity to no avail. Is something wrong with my machine? If anyone could help, I'd be very grateful. Ta! Jon

Please help! DX7 Problems.

Hi, Here's a few things to check: Cartridge: If you have an original DX7, caartridges for the DX7II or DX7s wont work. I believe you might need an adapter to make an original DX7 cartridge work in a DX7II. If you are using a DX7II you may be trying to read patch data out of a section of the cartridge formated for micro tunings. Go into edit mode and press the cartridge button. You should be able to find out what section of the cartridge the DX7 is trying to read and you should be able to find out what it's formated for. Mod wheel: Also, check the patch to see whether any of the operators use Amod. Some patches don't have anything for EGbias and Amod to affect. Each operator (operators affect each other in various ways to produce a sound) has an Amod (I don't know if I'm remembering the name of it right) setting which allows the Mod wheel and other thing to vary the amplitude of the operator. More amplitude on some operators makes a part of the sound louder. On others, more amplitude will make part of the sound brighter. EGbias and Amod affect the same things. EGbias increases the amplitude of an operator. Amod varies the amplitude through the LFO to make the amplitude go up and down regularly. I'm sorry if this has been a little thick for a beginnig DX7 user. In short, you can try other patches and see whether EGbias and Amod affect them.
