There are basically 3 compatibility classes in Yamaha DX synths:

How do you reset the Yamaha DXII D to the factory preset ?

I tried it at the frankfurt music fair. It's a DX7 with filter, free EGs,
realtime control for some of the modulators, noise and a FX section. Other
then that a drum section and a small sequencer...

You may know this, but, look for a parameter called "Local On" or "Local
Off" this parameter turns the keyboard on a synthesizer on or off.
Also, you may be able to send this command by MIDI.

Hi again.

The problem is not yet resolved. First of all i've tried the last version of P-Farm but the driver were made with a older version and doesn't work with the last version.
Then i've tried the old version of PFarm, less user friendly and...still no luck. I always receive this message : check midi set up and cabling.

I've tried to send SYSEX to my sequencer and it works BUT I can't figure out how to send it back to the DX100. THe problem is this :
The Dx100 gives me a confirmation that it received successfully the Midi message BUT i can't hear the patch.

I've tried to recall the Edit Buffer...Still no luck. The edit buffer seems to only keep the last edited patch not the one freshly transmited.

MIDI is on
Midi Transmit 1
Midi Receive 1
SYSinfo is on

The Dx100 is still new for me but yesterday i've discoverd that since the beginning i'm only using the 1/4 of it's sonic possibilities because i totally forgot the OPERATOR SELECT button :) Honnestly, compared to the Prophecy, I think i prefer the Dx100 which is more unpredictable and gives me lots of sounds with character (not sure i'm clear)


BTW: P farm is not the only software i've tried. Other tools seems to work only with Dx7 and some of them give not clear information about how to use it. One of them "Libvoice" works with Dos but i don't understand how to use it.

I may be stupid but it was far more easy to manage my other gears
Supernova, Prophecy, eMU e64, Yamaha Qy700, Promix,....


If anybody can give me advice on this I'll be happy to read it.

Hi again,

I'm sorry if this is stuff you already know: You could make sure that
the DX100 is set to send sysex. Also, you may need to manualy push some
buttons on the synth to dump/load your patches. After I had made sure
that the DX is working properly, (sends regular note data, etc.) I'd
email the author of P-Farm to see if there have been any other problems
like this. I hope you get it working. On another note; It doesn't look
like P-Farm saves in generic sysex format.

I've already found this "options" on P Farm but it doesn't seems to work.
First of all, the V50 or YS 100 doesn't work band i think this is due
because they where made with version 1.0.

Hi agian,

When I set up a MIDI program, I usualy have to configure the program to
send MIDI data to my MIDI OUT port. When I first install programs, they
usualy send MIDI data to my sound card's built in synthesizer.

To change MIDI settings in P-Farm:


Go to the "Edit" menu.

Click preferences.

Highlight your instrument. (You will need to "Add" your instrument if
you haven't done this. I don't know if the DX100 is of the V50 type or
the YS100 type.)

When you have your instrument highlighted, click "Properties".

Now, you should be able to select a MIDI channel and your MIDI IN and
MIDI OUT ports.

If you set up a different instrumet type, (i.e. v50 if the YS100 setup
didn't work well) it looks like you will need to configure MIDI options
for the new instrument type.

Firstly is it EMAX or SUPERMAX. It appears there were two different
versions. You can tell when it boots up.


I'm afraid that as I've just bought this EMAX DX7, I'm still not to sure
exactly what it does. One problem I've just had is that the battery was
actually flat, and caused me to have no sound, then lots of awful tuning
problems.

Press 'SPACE' then battery check. If the voltage is over 3.5V suspect
the backup battery.

I am hopefully having some of the original SUPERMAX documentation coming
from the states. (fingers crossed)

PS:
1. DX amplifier is OK (if we send notes to EMAX form
other keyboard, sound from EMAX DX is OK)
2. DX keyboard is OK (if we play on EMAX keyboard and
send via midi notes to other keyboard, sound is ok
from other keyboard)

I am new to the list. I previously had some Yamaha's, namely I still own a nice & funny DX100... now I have taken the big step to buy me a TX7 - didn't really want to shell out the bucks for the keyboard version, maybe later - and... well, it came without a manual and I can't manage to get started = get the first DX/TX7 sound out of it. On the www, I have found only DX7 manuals, which are nice, but no dummy FAQ for the TX7... maybe somebody here can help me out!?

Also, which of the multiple editors is best one for getting all those nice DX7 patches (for Windows)?

controller messages and if i can assign these to different modulation destinations (like FM ammount or something)
