Yamaha DX-1 Servicing
I recently started playing my Yamaha DX-1 as I've had it storage for some year. Not really sure if it could need calibrating so I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to tune up/calibrate a DX-1. I check the battery and it read from the keyboard display 4.7 volts. I've never changed it since the 18 or so years that I've had it. I also noticed that it has this sustain to most patches and I'm trying to figure out if there's a sustain mode somewhere on the keyboard where I can decrease that. Thanks for Any Suggestions. GAT |
Re: MIDI interface for old PowerBook?
开云体育Hello John,I bought MOTU’s Fastlane 2X2 MIDI interface circa 2004. As far as I can remember it has worked on my Powerbook G4 running 10.4 and it still works on the same machine running 10.5.8. Subsequently, this same Fastlane has also worked on all generations of?MacBook Pros running 10.6 all the way up to 10.15 presently. Just make sure that you install the appropriate software driver for your OS. All driver versions are available for free download from?. Eb

Re: MIDI interface for old PowerBook?
开云体育I agree with everything except the "Edit:" at the end. There are some cheapie cables that have a bug and they mess up Sys Ex. I would definitely go the "class drivers" route, most sellers will indicate this on their pages. I have the iConnectivity mio but it's on the pricier side ($40).? I recommend it.I find the simple cables with "advanced" features also cause issues. I have another one that can be one-in/one-out or two-outs. This has caused problems with some software and isn't worth the hassle. Source: Have bought too many MIDI adapters, including a couple of the cheapie ones and one def has the bug.? I am using a G4 Powerbook with 10.4.9 with a MIDISport day by day with all my various editors, and it works like charm. The iRig MIDI lists OS X 10.6 and later as compatible, the MIDISPORT does list OS X 10.4.9 as compatible. |
Re: MIDI interface for old PowerBook?
Midi is supported in USB as a Class driver so any no frills USB Midi cable should work. Especially under Mac OS X. It's when you start spending a bit more on cables/boxes which support multiple types of interface, is when you usually run into problems. This is because they tend to need specific drivers. That said, the basic Midi functionality will often just work regardless. |
MIDI interface for old PowerBook?
I have a G4 PowerBook that isn’t really being used, so I thought I would run Sysex Librarian on it (there are still old versions on the snooze.net website), to use with my DX7II. It’s pretty ancient though, with a PowerPC CPU, and is running Mac OS X 10.4. I’ve looked at a few MIDI interfaces, like the IK Multimedia iRig MIDI 2, and the M-Audio MIDISPORT 2x2. The iRig MIDI lists OS X 10.6 and later as compatible, the MIDISPORT does list OS X 10.4.9 as compatible. There’s also a mystery brand interface on Amazon (DigitalLife) for $60 I might take a chance on. Does anyone have some experience with MIDI interfaces and elderly versions of Mac OS X? Are the interfaces generally compatible, and the manufacturers just list recent versions of OS X to be safe? Or do the interfaces really have problems, or not work, with older versions of OS X?
Thanks in advance for any advice. |
Re: TO ALL MEMBERS of YamahaDX (1st)
Oops.? Sorry.? I remembered that the wrong way around.
If you pay in Euros, which is Richard's currency, there is no fee; there's just the currency conversion charge, built into Paypal's exchange rate... I think you can choose to use your card issuers rate instead, but you'll then get two separate things on your statement - one from Paypal and one from your bank / card company. If you pay in a different currency, there's a charge, which seems quite high in proportion to the sort of amounts people will likely donate. I started by trying to pay in GBP, which added on an unexplained charge, so I tried switching the currency to Euros, which made it disappear. - Andy |
Re: TO ALL MEMBERS of YamahaDX (1st)
开云体育Its very simple to change to your own currency... I hope they don’t do a charge for him! ?Anyway, the PayPal fee for $5.00 is $1.44 On Nov 2, 2019, at 3:02 PM, andy2no via Groups.Io <man.of.mystery@...> wrote:

Re: TO ALL MEMBERS of YamahaDX (1st)
It turns out Paypal also charged a fee if you try to pay in a currency other than your own.
I couldn't see any explanation of the fee, so I don't know if it was a flat rate or a percentage.? I found if I changed the currency to my own, it went away.??? I don't know if that meant Richard was charged a fee instead. Paypal charges its own rates for a currency conversion though, which may well be more than a card issuer would charge. In case anyone missed it, this is what Richard posted in the Yahoo group, just before closing it to new posts.? It contains the link to make a donation towards the costs: " To all, ? Re: Yahoo's email
Interesting, haven't gotten an email like that.
I understand and agree to a certain level with their move, but for us having a common storage area is mandatory. Has anybody run into any missing files ? I haven't checked by comparing Yahoo-files with 开云体育-files (it wasn't mentioned in the transition email either). rg,rg |
Yahoo's email
Bruce Wahler
开云体育Since the old group is shut down, I don't know if you folks got this email.? (I received it from another group still in transition.)? Apparently, Yahoo has sent this note to every member of every list.? First of all, it's late:? the first portion of the change already happened.? Secondly, the spin doctor on this one must be getting dizzy by now!? They're not taking Yahoo Groups away -- they're making it better, um ... by removing some of the most useful features of the lists (file storage, email archives).? :-\________ Here is the text from the email: "Dear Group Moderators and Members, Thank you for your commitment to Yahoo and for helping us define the power of digital communities. Eighteen years ago, we combined the functionality of a site called eGroups.com with a precursor community platform called Yahoo Clubs to launch Yahoo Groups. Since then, you and millions of others have helped prove our hypothesis, by creating and joining more than 10 Million groups. A lot has changed about the Internet since 2001, including the ways most people now use Yahoo Groups. Today, most Yahoo Groups activity happens in your email inbox, not on the bulletin boards where Yahoo Groups started in the pre-smartphone age. Increasingly, people want content and connections coming directly to them, and this is why we continue to invest in Yahoo Mail -- including the recent launch of a new that is currently the highest-rated email app in the App Store and Google Play. So, as our users’ habits have evolved, we have begun the process of evolving our approach to help active Yahoo Groups thrive and migrate to our email platform. To help you plan for these changes, below is the schedule of how this transition will happen. Beginning October 28, 2019:
Beginning December 14, 2019:
As these dates get closer, we will send follow-up reminders. More information about the upcoming changes can be found . While this evolution of Yahoo Groups is inspired by how we see the platform being used today, we know change can be difficult. Here are a few important facts as we make this transition: 1. Yahoo Groups is not going away - We know that our users are deeply passionate about connecting around shared interests, and we are evolving Groups to better align with how you use it today. 2. New groups can still be formed - Users can continue to connect with others around their common bonds and interests. From animal rescues to sporting and activity groups, civic organizations to local PTAs, members of our Yahoo Groups will remain connected and able to share their activities and interests. All of the content that you have shared previously on the website, can continue to be shared via email. We know that Yahoo Groups is an important online extension of your real-life group of friends, interests and communities, and we are committed to supporting communities that rely on Yahoo Groups. Thanks for coming along with us this far. We look forward to seeing where the technology -- and you -- take us in the decades to come. Sincerely, The Groups Team" --
