Hi, if you find you need parts for the FT-847 like the AF-CNTL board I have them all.

First check the +5, and de +8 Volt lines, on J1004 of the AF-CNTL-UNIT.

?Anything connected to the ALC socket? If not, then check the socket to see if 0.1v is present on TX and that should rise to 0.6v on RX….. from memory.?

Re: Early model CAT question

It probably depends on what software (and what version of it) you're using to drive the radio.? If you're using rigctl, there's a separate radio model for the bi-directional and uni-directional versions:

$ rigctl -l | grep 847
? 1001? Yaesu????????????????? FT-847????????????????? 20200509.0????? Stable????? RIG_MODEL_FT847
? 1038? Yaesu????????????????? FT-847UNI?????????????? 20200509.0????? Stable????? RIG_MODEL_FT847UNI

So, the answer to your question is "yes".? Just don't expect to be able to grab the VFO knob while tracking to make adjustments, since the software will probably override it on the next real time update.

Needless to say I've been spoiled with USB CAT control with my 7300 for some time now.

Re: I want to use a tuner for my ft847!

I tried it and it works. Just connect it and use the tune button on the 847.

Re: I want to use a tuner for my ft847!

be interesting to know if anyone has actually tried an FC-40 (or the Mat-40 even) with an 847 successfully?

Thanks Spence. That was absolutely great of you to spend your time explaining that you have come up with similar logic I was thinking, so everything should be okay as you say “it has the same socket “ and it is designed for the Yaesu Radio. So why shouldn’t it work fingers crossed?

Just to give you a little further reading.

? Also note the socket on some radios is inverted. Pinouts remain the same.

FT847 and FC20 - reset pin to the bottom Inverted

FT897 and FC30 - Reset pin to the top - Normal
