It probably depends on what software (and what version of it) you're
using to drive the radio.? If you're using rigctl, there's a
separate radio model for the bi-directional and uni-directional
versions:
$ rigctl -l | grep 847
? 1001? Yaesu????????????????? FT-847?????????????????
20200509.0????? Stable????? RIG_MODEL_FT847
? 1038? Yaesu????????????????? FT-847UNI??????????????
20200509.0????? Stable????? RIG_MODEL_FT847UNI
So, the answer to your question is "yes".? Just don't expect to be
able to grab the VFO knob while tracking to make adjustments, since
the software will probably override it on the next real time update.

One of my buddies is selling his 847, but it's one of the
unidirectional models. Will I still be able to take advantage of
doppler tracking and digital modes with it? Or do either of
these require bi-directional CAT control? I'm not too
pressed about seeing the frequency on the screen, just about it
actually controlling the radio. Needless to say I've been
spoiled with USB CAT control with my 7300 for some time now.
