Bluetooth issues
So far, I have had very unsatisfactory results trying to connect Bluetooth to either an ft5dr or an ftm 6000 with the BU4 installed. I am trying with Infinitive Sound earbuds. This is an inexpensive set of earbuds that work with my iPhone. I have also tried the U-Connect in my Jeep, and an Altec Bluetooth speaker. I was able to get the ft5 to pair and connect with the Infinitive earbuds but no audio when I opened the squelch. Though I could get the ftm6000 to list the earbuds and Jeep, it would not pair or connect. Been through the steps in the manuals several times, but no success. What I’m looking for is something similar to this https://www.bestbuy.com/site/panasonic-headset-black/9881795.p?skuId=9881795 Questions Has anyone successfully paired/connected anything besides the bt-10 with the ft5dr and/or ftm6000 that they are happy with? Are there any satisfied bt10 users out there? I have some hearing issues that would probably make the bt10 issues worse. Besides, I previously tried that type device with my cell phone and it did not work well for me. And finally, could someone please post a step-by-step with what worked for you. Thanks in advance cross- posted to the FT5 group also. I’ll share any information from there Bill N5BIA

Bluetooth adapter - revisited
3
So I got the adapter and installed it, with the idea to pair it with the U-Connect hands free in my Jeep. If anyone has done this and gotten it to work, I’d appreciate your advice. I see the U-Connect, but pairing is unsuccessful. Since plan A did no go well, onto plan B. I’d appreciate comments on reasonably priced Bluetooth headsets. I know there are many to choose from, but if anyone has one they particularly like, I’d appreciate hearing about it. And if there is no that someone has had a bad experience with, I’d like to hear how that went also. 73, Bill

Squelch on setting?
3
I pushed the P1 button to turn the squelch off. I then found that I could not switch the squelch back on. No such button, and the Squelch/back button would only let me change levels but not turn the squelch back on. The manuals did not reveal how to turn squelch back on. I switched the radio off and then back on: squelch was back on. Question: is there a better way to switch the squelch back on?

RT Systems Programming Issue resolved
2
Hi folks, I acquired an FTM-6000 a few weeks back and ordered the RT Systems software for it. I like to use my VHF/UHF rigs as a scanner for ham/railroad/marine frequencies. After having entered a few frequencies manually when first unboxing the rig, I turned the rig off, then connected the RTS USB cable to the rig and attempted to invoke the Clone feature as directed. The rig came up with CLONE on the display, but try as I might I could not get to the CLONE RX or TX display to commence communication with the computer (a Mac). I called RT Systems who suggested I needed to take the rig in for service. Not being happy with that response as the radio seemed to be working fine otherwise, I puzzled over the issue for a bit. I disconnected the USB cable, turned on the rig to find I had left it in Memory Scan mode. I keyed the mic to stop the scan, then tried the sync process again with the USB cable installed. It worked! The documentation for the FTM-6000 does not document this situation, nor does the RT Systems manual. I called RT Systems back to let them know in case anyone else runs into this issue. I hope this helps someone. 73 Tracy VE3TWM YouTube Channel "Outdoors On The Air"

New FTM-6000 LOCK
5
Hello- Bought a new FTM-6000. Found that almost anything I try to do with the unit the display shows “lock”. Looked in both manuals and can’t find a reference to a lock function on the mic or other controls. Tried to do a reset to factory default but get “lock” again when I press the dial to select all.rst. So it’s almost a brick. Am I missing something? Suggestions? Thanks, Jim

Bluetooth adapter
Looking for someone who has experience with the BU-4 Bluetooth adapter, either with the Yaesu headset or with third party headset. I have seen a one or two reviews of the headset, which weren’t very good, but no reviews on the Bluetooth adapter. At $45 plus another $15 to ship, I’d like to have an idea how well it works. My hearing isn’t so good anymore, especially when there is a lot of road noise. I’m thinking a decent Bluetooth headset might help.

USB port question)s)
7
#interface
Just bought a NIB 6000 at a recent hamfest, trying to get it set up before putting it in the mobile. Having perused the owners manual and researched online, I see virtually no information on the two USB ports. I connected the port on the main chassis to a win10 laptop, but it isn't recognized. I tried loading Prolific drivers from the Yaesu website for earlier models, still not recognized. I don't have the connector or an RS232 port to connect to he data port (yet). Should have a workable cable and port here later this week. My question is, what are these two ports for? Strictly updates? Maybe I missed something in the manual, but I didn't even see them mentioned, though the one on the chassis is marked DATA with a small switch under it marked NORMAL and UPDATE. The one on the control head is marked DATA but no switch. Are these for updating firmware only, or is the ADMS software supposed to communicate with them? TIA -

Anyone have a workaround for not having "BANKS"?
3
I'm sure this topic has been covered. I'm used to my FT70D which has banks so that I can scan specific banks of memory channels rather than my entire memory list. Does the FTM6000 have a workaround for this? Does Groups work for this?? Trying hard to understand the whole groups concept. Any help appreciated.

price increase

Should have bought second one yesterday. Price was 289.95 with 10.00 off for email info. ($279.95) yesterday's total price. Well, here it is today folks $319.95 up in price one day increase of $40.00 While some of their advertising still says 289 when you click on price changes. NEW from Yaesu, a dual band 50W 2M/70CM FM mobile radio. This radio, similar to the FTM-300, has easy-to-use ETO face menus but also there is a large F1 button ... $289.95

Squelch issues
I noticed today with a station at about S3-S5 and the squelch at its maximum value that a station keep breaking up the squelch. In other words, I was not able to mute the station. The station had lots of noise so its signal was quite low. Anyone noticed this issue? Thanks!

Reviews, opinions. How do you like your FTM-6000 so far?
#review
I also got one at the $200 price from Giga Parts. At that price I could not pass it up. I was looking for a mobile, and at $200, it was in the same price range as the Chinese radios I considered. I had wondered how many other people grabbed one at that price. So far I am mostly satisfied with it but found a few things that could have been better. First the good. Audio is better than any of the other radios I have here including the FT-897D that is normally connected to the VHF-UHF antenna at home. It is loud and clear, and rarely needs to go beyond half scale. It receives well on HAM bands as well as aircraft (AM), marine, railroad (FMN), and some public service frequencies while still connected to my Diamond x-50 antenna. Easy to program manually once you figure out their manuals (setting PL tones is in the Advanced Manual, and not even mentioned in the basic manual. Display is easy to see, and easy to shift between freq. and call sign display. I think I will like the operating interface for use in the car. I also like the fact that it does not display channel while scanning, eliminates distraction. Signal and audio reports are both good via local repeaters. Biggest negative is that it does NOT support memory banks, and their automatic Band Group mode is completely worthless. That is because almost everything you have programmed outside the ham bands will be in the VHF Group (rail, marine, public service) that you may wish to scan occasionally. Also, scanning by group limits you to just VHF OR UHF. Does anyone have any idea why Yaesu does not include memory bank support on their recent radios? A more minor thing is memory skip. If I skip a memory there is no indication it is skipped (my HTs have a symbol next to the memory number if skipped), it takes several button pushes to go in to and check if a frequency is skipped. PMS scan has som quirks too. I did not get the Blue Tooth module since BT on my FT-3D was really bad. If any one has tried it I would love to hear how it worked (audio quality, noise, what will it connect to). p.s. - Price is back up tp $260 at Giga Parts now. N8AAX Steve

Not Transmitting
2
I just go the radio a week ago. Got the cable and software and loaded and programed. The radio will not transmit. No matter what station I am on I can not transmit. No response. I have an older radio and a hand held and both receive and transmit on my antenna so there is plenty of signal. Any ideas or have you heard of anything clashing in the program phase that would stop voice transmission? Thank

Help with PMS
3
Just got the radio. I set up programmable memory channel scan upper and lower limits, for example VHF Ham L01=144 MHz U01=148 MHz and UHF Ham L02=420 U02=450. I can initiate the scan by pressing the up or down button on the mic, but this only works for the UHF and VHF bands. I set up air voice frequencies scan L03=118 MHz U03=137 MHz, but this will not scan like the UHF and VHF bands. Has anyone else tried this? If I scan the air band in VFO mode, I get all the navigation beacons. John KG7AUP

FTM-6000R

I just bought my 6000r a few weeks ago from Giga-parts for $200. I only have 1frequency in it. I put it in with RT Systems. I still do not know how to program the radio manually.

RT Systems
I got my FTM 6K a couple weeks ago from Giga-parts for $200 plus tx. The RT Systems I got with it is fantastic. All I had to do was let the program pick all the frequencies and then just put them in my radio. AF6MC

So I was on a bit of a drive today and after 2-3 hours (I estimate) the radio played a little tune. I swear I am not hearing things. Anyone else have that happen? Micky K1XH

Hello All...New to the group. Just ordered Yaesu FTM-6000R from HRO
Read a post that price went up, happens all the time. I just saw this model in new HRO catalog. Last year I purchased an IRLP node which needs serial connector and the radio a data port. That is difficult to find these days. I have new Yaesu 8800 & 8900's purchased 3 years ago before everything was going color display, digital, etc. Did not want to waste one of those well built analogues for just a desktop irlp node. Been hoping for low end Yaesu to come back with a model with data port on back, same type as my other Yaesu 8800 series. Luck would have it that this model is identical port! I will only use it for the IRLP transceiver for HT to node and out via wi-fi. Had bought a Kenwood V71A dual bander which seemed like overkill for intended use. This 6000R will be perfect for when I want to use the IRLP node. I already have a clear node for allstar, echolink, dmr connections, standalone via home wi-fi. Just use any ht on low power simplex to the node. I was reading the features of this 6000r and could not find in the specs a mic key lock or key to turn off lighted keys like on previous Yaesu mics. I know you can press power button to lock radio but does that also lock mic keys? Hoping so as I will program simplex channel in 6000R with matching on my HT. Then use the HT to control the IRLP access connects. Then turn the 6000R on when I want to use the IRLP node. Otherwise leave the radio powered off. Price was $319 on HRO but I have always had excellent performance with my other Yaesu radios since 1983. Anyone tell me if the mic has a toggle for the lighted keys and a mic lock button. My 8800 series have a lock for the radio and lock button for the mic. Thanks
