Barrery Suggestions for FT60r 12
After many years the FNB83 replacement I got from W&W Manufacturing has failed. In looking on their website I cannot find a 2200mAh battery like the bad one. The one now listed is 1800mAh. Any suggestions of a source for higher than OEM capacity (1400mAh). Prefer fedback from actual purchasers. Thanks Richard

Making a Yaesu FT-60 digital?? 6
Hi all, So I saw this video on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CccMgNh8ExY . So this video proves this Digirig will work with the FT-60, so that helps. I still don't understand how it works. According to https://digirig.net/product/digirig-mobile/, it's more of a sound card. I don't get it. My questions: 1) Would this turn my Ft-60 into a digital system, or would it just do digital signals over a analog system? 2) I'm guessing I could hook up a computer to this Digirig system and send emails and stuff over the air. Think this would be useful in a SHTF situation?? Thanks in advance, Scott - KC3VUH

SCAM ALERT - Ham Radio Equipment For Sale "Moving To Australia" 3
I've already seen the scam show up on some groups.io communities I belong to. I'm not going to include a copy of the email here, but I will describe it briefly. The email spoofs the identity of a very new Technician class ham in Texas, who claims to be selling many high-end Yaesu, Icom, Flex, and Kenwood transceivers. Why? Because he is supposedly moving to Australia. It is popping up all over the place, and responding gets you lots of lovely SPAM. Here's a video someone just made about this scam. Be careful online. 73, Chris VE3RWJ on qrz.com Follow Me On Twitter

Memory scan 4
I¡¯ve done something wrong. When I¡¯m in memory mode, I previously could push either MHZ up or MHZ down for one second, and my 15 channels would begin scanning. But now, it scans only two channels (Channels 1 and 15) and skips the others. I¡¯m confused. Suggestions? Richard WB5NEN

Yaesu VX-150, FT-60R and SBH-13 Charger Stand and NiMH Battey Pack Life 10
I have two venerable VX-150s (opened up for CAP use) and an FT-60R and have been charging them on the SBH-13 battery charger. Of late, I have noticed that in high power mode, all three are only putting out about 1.5 to 2.0 watts. The batteries are about 1400-1650 mAh and are very old -- about 4-5 years though little used. Could I reasonably expect better performance and higher power with similar batteries (i.e., 1400-2000 mAh) and otherwise what would be the recommended course of action to restore the three HTs? Thanks in advance. -- William, K6WHP "Cheer up, things could get worse..so I cheered up and, sure enough, things got worse!"

Replacement gaskets for Ft-60 battery packs? 3
Does anyone know of a source for the battery pack gaskets? They aren't made well enough to outlast the batteries, unfortunately. My radios are getting damp inside in drizzly weather.

Desktop charger 16
Hi folks, I am returning to the FT-60 after many years. A few years ago, I bought and successfully used an FT-60R, then I gave it to my dad (it is still working like champ for him) and now I bought my own. Nickel-Based Batteries [consider LiFePO4 accumulator] 12
LiFePO4 accumulator is better than NiMH - especially A123 Systems - now NEC: Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) and A123 batteries. PERHAPS THE BEST BATTERY TECHNOLOGY AVAILABLE: https://www.rcmodelreviews.com/baffledbybatteries4.shtml Quote: "... In a situation where a LiPo might explode into flames, the LiFePO4 cell will probably just vent some harmless gas. LiFePO4 Pro's: very high power/weight ratio very low self-discharge more tollerant of over/under-charge/discharge can be used for RC gear without needing regulators LiFePO4 Con's: Only a limited range of battery capacities currently available Odd-sizes for most cells (not AA, C, D, etc) [I have bought AA (600mAh 3.2V; six have 1200mAh 9.6V 2P3S and a FBA-25A) and AAA (200mAh 3.2V) size in 2023 - presently untested] LiFePO4-capable charger needed ..."

Battery FNB-83 disassembled
Please do not use the gold screw connections to measure the accumulator pack voltage - this won't work. Always use the silver connections to measure the accumulator pack voltage. The FT-60 CHG terminal charges with about 200mA whatever the accumulator pack voltage - up to 10 to 12V. - I have just disassembled a FNB-83. (do not unscrew them, it does not help you disassembling it) Connections seen from back and with the latch-landing and gold screws at bottom. The silver connections at the top directly connects to six NiMH AA accumulator in series; plus(left) and ground(right). Between cell 4 and 5 (from ground and connected in series here) there is a thermostat marked: IP505BC-B 80C. ISUZU 12C. The leftmost gold screw connects to plus through a power Schottky diode - SR240. Physically placed between cell 5 and 6 (not connected here). ( https://web.archive.org/web/20230219091755/https://www.tme.eu/Document/047c9218122306bba626c65999541cce/SR2xx.pdf ) The middle gold screw connects to ground. The right screw connects to small-signal glass diode to ground. Physically placed between cell 2 and 3 (not connected here). Possibly used for end-of-charge temperature measurement. Non of the gold screw connections are used in FT-60. The FT-60 CHG terminal connects directy to the cell 1 ground (minus). According to the FT-60 service manual the CHG terminal charge with about 200mA ( (2.0V-0.6V)/(6.8 ohm) ). Whatever the accumulator pack voltage - up to 10 to 12V. Thats it.

Transmit audio problem. Anyone here work on these? 21
My radio will transmit just fine. Shows full power on the meter and will open squelch on a receiver but does not send any audio. I did check to make sure it¡¯s set to wide. I also recently upgraded to li-ion and had trouble with the charger charging at 11v so maybe something got fried¡ Anyway. If anyone has any suggestions I¡¯m willing to try but also looking for a tech that might take a look. Thank you.

FT-60 Commander Alternate Write Mode 9
Pretty much everyone who uses FT-60 Commander knows that the "Alternate Write Mode" is often needed to successfully write to the FT-60. Does anyone know what that magical setting actually does? I'm trying to get Chirp working, and I can read, but not write. This seems to be a common issue with Chirp and the FT-60, and I feel like it is perhaps a flow control issue or something like that. I also think that the Alternate Write Method in Commander was there specifically to address that, but without knowing what it actually does, that is just speculation. Any input would be appreciated! 73, Matt, N0EYE

AA NiMH batteries, input on brands 20
Hello all, I ran across some AA NiMH batteries made by Tenergy, I have never heard of the brand personally and was wondering if anyone here has used them before. For the most part I have found positive reviews, still I'm curious. Here is a link to the particular ones I found: https://power.tenergy.com/tenergy-aa-2000mah-nimh-flat-top-rechargeable-battery/ The price of these batteries are economical but most of the times you get what you pay for. What brands of AA NiMH batteries has everyone here used with the FBA-25 battery case? The good, the bad, the ugly. LOL One more thing, I read some reviews on the Amazon Basics NiMH batteries where the purchaser peeled the Amazon branded sleeve off of the battery, to find that they were Panasonic branded batteries. One reviewer did the same, to find that they were Samsung batteries. I know it's common for companies to rebrand products for resale under their company name. Again just curious if anyone here has read of this or has first hand knowledge. Quite a few reviews stated that the batteries tested and performed as well as Eneloops, and Powerx AA NiMH batteries. Can anyone validate that claim? Thanks in advance to everyone. Mike Owens -- W5SKK
