Welcome
Hi Gang- Welcome to all of you who have quickly signed up since last night. I really wasn't entirely comfortable doing this being that Clint is a great guy and all... but when I noticed he had some issues with discussions of the Commander software I was afraid he might have some "conflict of interest" issues. Whether my assumptions are right or wrong, I thought another avenue was needed where we can have some unodderated discussion as long as we don't stray in to areas not concerning the FT-60. Let's not forget that CLint is a good guy and continue to support him as well. 73,Ed

This Group
Hi Gang- I am still "tweaking" things a bit, I threw this group up together pretty quick the other day on my coffee break. If you look at the main group page you will see I refined the description a bit and I also brought on a "co-moderator" to help run the group. I have the messages set up so that we moderate "new members", but as of now we are all new members. Eventually, yahoo will allow you veterans to freely post. I have it set like that to protect us from spam. That's it for now...have fun.

Open Forum? 3
Glad to see there is a second venue for FT-60 users. I think Clint did a great job is in getting the ball rolling and commend his efforts in doing so. I will continue to be a member of his group as well as this one. Having said that, it's always nice to have multiple places to post, make suggestions, get help, and generally carry on with other users of this fabulous little rig. Hopefully this will be an open forum with minimal moderation, assuming all posts are friendly, on topic, and are not flame bait. I had a problem with my FT-60 that forced me to return it to Yaesu. I attempted to post about the problem three times but none of the posts were allowed. I only received personal replies from the list owner. I was frankly put off a bit that I couldn't share my experiences publicly, and perhaps find a solution to the problem or at least get some additional input. I'm taking the liberty of reposting the same message here........ ----------------------------------------- I have had my FT-60 for two weeks now and except for having to trim the label away from the charge contact on the battery, have had no problems. Last weekend I sat down to begin manually adding frequencies to memory. Again, no problems. However, after I began adding selected memory locations to banks, the unit froze up on Bank 10. I immediately powered off, and upon powering up again noted that the standard three tones played as usual, but the display was totally blank. Moreover, there was no received audio. The unit, except for the three tones on powerup, is totally dead. I have attempted resetting multiple times. The radio goes into reset mode (5 tones played) but without a display it is difficult to determine which reset mode is being used. I tried each, based on counting clicks on the control knob, but no joy. I have also removed the battery and have run on a 13.8 volt supply, but with the same results. Any ideas???? Ron WA5VFA ------------------------------------------------------------- I have since talked to Yaesu technical support and they had no ready solution so I have sent the radio to them. In my mind it appears to be scrambled firmware or a related processor problem. If it was caused by the bank programming, then there could be a bug in the microcode. If anyone else has had a problem like that I'd like to know. Let me point out that all the programming I did was manual, without using any form of software. 73, Ron WA5VFA

FT-60 Operating Specs
Sorry, correction to my last post. The operating Specs for the FT-60 according to the Yaesu brochure are -4 to +14 degrees F (not C as I put in the last post). Even colder! Scott WA2CHJ

Six Cell Battery Case Question 2
The FT-60 looks like I might be interested for one big reason alone. They have a 6 AA cell case, which, if 1.2 volt rechargeable were used, would give you the same 5-Watts out. In addition using akaline's should even give you more - except in the 5 watt power position, the current draw would probably lower the cells to where I suspect you might only get the 5 or so watts. This is a great feature, as I like to have a radio ready to go in an emergency that uses AA cells. The Fire service more or less adopted the use of AA Akaline's for all strike teams etc years ago. My question is: Has anybody tried both 1.2 volt rechargables and 1.5 volt akaline's ? Does anybody have the results as to the power output using these cells in the battery case? Thanks Tom Seabury - KI6O

Commander Software 4
Has anyone been having problems downloading Jim's Commander software off his QSL.net site? I have been trying to download it for the past couple of days but it seems to get to a certain point and then just stops all together. Iam guessing no one has been having a problem since there haven't been any post's on here stating that. I have heard that QSL.net has been having server problems in terms of speed etc. Hopefully if thats the case then it is a temporary thing. Dave

BUG-Commander Beta Ver 0.0.4
OK, I downloaded the current version and installed it on top of the version I already had. Here's the deal. My Vx-7 file seems to be importing OK, uploading OK and the radio appears to be transmitting on the repeaters now. However, if I go to what I will call the spread sheet to message the data, when I use the "move down arrow" button my spread sheet disapears, the screen turns grey, and that is that. I did not have this problem in earlier editions. Eddie Muro- Amateur Radio Station K2EPM Long Island, New York LIMARC Vice-President www.limarc.org http://www.nat-com.org http://www.aosc.org

Problem with Commander 2
Hi All, Ok I downloaded Jim's newest version of Commander last night. I just tried to program my 60 with it. It read the radio fine but when I went to have it write the new data to the radio nothing would happen. What I mean is is that I followed the instructions that came up on the screen but when that status window popped up then nothing happened. It's just like the program wouldn't write to my radio. Has anyone else experienced this? Iam using a USB to Serial adapter but I don't think it's the problem since the program will read the radio. So any thoughts or suppestions would be helpful. Thanks Dave
