Re: bug

Hello,
?
Yes Yaesu is aware of this problem and refuses to admit it. There are way to many early FT-60's out there with the same receive problem! Not just my radio!
?
There report to me was that there is no problem with the receive!
I do have to admit their engineer did take the time to listen to my receive problems!

I found a bug in the radio's operating system software that Yaseu will want to fix (hopefully). It is easy to duplicate, and the error handling is not providing for this, and doing it causes the radio to shut down. Simply set all of the channels in one of the memory banks to skip, and then press either the up or down MHz keys to initiate scanning of that bank, and the unit will shut down. Yes I know that the question is going to be asked "Why would you want to scan, when you have set all of the channels to skip?"... well it happened by accident, and the error should be trapped. The user should not be left wondering why the unit powered off. You can duplicate this in any of the memory banks or in the "No Bank" memory mode. The solution would be to display a message to the user, or just beep. No, I don't think so. You can not discuss business dealings on your ham radio (say if your stock broker was a ham, you could not "make a trade" over the air) or use HAM RADIO for business purposes. Such as, using your base station to dispatch taxi's or stuff of that nature.
The office of Amateur Enforcement has nothing to do with transactions or promotions on the Internet. A good majority of the people selling stuff to hams are hams, you don't see them getting hauled off. If that were the case, and it is not, old Gordo West would be behind bars somewhere. I think you are a bit off base and at this point, this discussion is off topic...bring it back to the FT-60. I have not been kicked off Clint's Group. He would not post my bug
report... but asked that I " Please pass on this report directly to RT Systems - who was contracted by Yaesu to develop the software package - thanks!".. I think Clint thought I was referring to the RT systems software. I tried to clarify my comments to him, but he has not responded. I did forward the bug report to RT Systems as requested... who knows maybe they did write the FT60 operating system for Yaesu. But Clint is selective in what he will allow, I asked if the RT Systems software would enable virtual jumper assignment to provide for MARS/CAP operation, and it has not been posted... seems like a sensitive subject... but hey, it is his group, and I repsect that --Bill --- In FT-60@..., Larry B <larryfire26@y...> wrote: If you subscribe to Clints, FT60 group and you say things that He isnot happy with, here is what he will do! unscribe to you and kick you off the boards! without your permission maybe the FBI would like to know what he is up to, as I am sure thats illegal and considered electronic theft and misuse! discussion groups! as it is run correctly!

Eric Gissendaner
While I agree that the other FT-60 group is heavily moderated,(trying to be nice here), Clint is not hijacking anybodys email address. All Yahoogroups mailing lists have a feature that allows the moderator to remove any member that he or she wants. It's built into the moderator tools. Nothing illeagal there. I know about the feature because I moderate a few lists of my own.

I do not neccesaarily agree with moderating the postings unless flame wars occur or in cases with vulgar language. I almost started another FT-60 group myself (until I discovered this one) because of the way the other group is run. When somee critisim surfaced about Yaseu that apparently didn't go over too well on the other list. I do not know Clint. I have no allegance to Yaseu. I can cay that the FT-60 is one outstanding little radio. I have had no problems with mine. The RX sensitivity is fine with my radio. I have even heard the space station repeater almost full quieting with mine. This one is a keeper! The "Alternate Write Mode" is just a workaround for some configurations. On some PCs, for some reason the FT-60 won't accept data when writing unless data has been sent out of the radio first. I suspect that for some reason, the CLONE line gets "stuck" in one state or the other, and sending data out of the radio takes care of that, but I haven't investigated the hardware end of things. So basically, if you can read from the radio, but can't write, then use the alternate write mode. Otherwise the "normal" write mode should be fine. Hello all I thought I would throw in my $0.02. I acquired my FT-60R aI have a mark I version of the CH-777 and had been very happy with it. Thus far, however, I am unable to find a way to get it to charge the as-supplied Ni-MH battery pack that came with my FT-60. The spring loaded contacts on the end of the charger (that I use to charge virtually all my other battery packs) will not maintain contact with the two contact points on the end of the pack. There is an issue with the protruding "lip" on the battery case as well as holding the back itself tightly enough to maintain the proper contact with the charging "points". I've tried adjusting, pushing and maneuvering; none of which works unless I stand there and hold the pack firmly against the little pointed contacts. The spring loading in the contacts themselves seem to be so strong that they push the pack away just enough to keep it from staying firmly enough in place. Am I doing this right? I should be using the two contacts at the top of the battery case, right? The pictures I see of the Mk II version show no difference in the battery placement and contact arrangement when charging when compared with my Mk I. Can someone out there give me a tip on how to make this work? The CH-777 is a good charger and ought to do this job quite nicely - certainly a better solution than charging the Ni-MH pack in the radio. And using what I have would be infinitely preferable to investing in (yet one more) unit that will charge only the one battery. Please let me know how you guys using the CH-777 are getting the contacts to line up and stay in contact. Now on to my comment/ question, is anyone else having a problem withYou got that right! The little bugger wants to come loose and lay in the bottom of a pocket or the camera bag. I've taken to "double wrapping" (once in each direction horizontally and vertically) a stout rubber band around the pack with the gasket in place. That will keep it there until the pack (and gasket) is secured to the radio. This little item is, I think a definite weak point on the radio, as its water resistant ability is compromised when the gasket is not in place. Yaesu should make these gaskets available to owners at a nominal charge as they are undoubtedly going to get lost from time to time. Any advise or assistance I can secure in getting the MH-777 to charge my Ni-MH battery pack is solicited. Get it at my page: What's New: -Added Key Assignments (FT-60 Settings Menu) -Added Home Memories (bottom of grid) -Added VFO "Memories" (bottom of grid) -Added a method of writing files from other radios with different hardware configuations. This is "Apply HW Config To Current File" in the Transfer menu. -Moved "Use Write Mode #2" to the Transfer Menu, now called "Use ALternate Write Mode" -Fixed a bug with TX Dev -Fixed a bug with split tone selections -Other minor adjustments If I have omitted any of the radio settings, please let me know, this should be about all of them. Once I have all of the radio settings programmed and nobody finds any bugs for a while, I'll jump the software up to version 1.0.0 and drop the BETA designation. Thanks to those of you who have provided bug reports and feedback, you know who you are. ---------------------------------- Special Note For Non-US Users ---------------------------------- The FT-60 is now available in countries other than the USA. FT-60 Commander should work OK for these radios. However, if the software detects a US machine, it will not allow programming memory channels frequencies that are blocked in US models. This has become a problem for some non-US users, such as non-us users using a US configuration on their PCs. If you are a non-US user who is using a US configuration on your PC, and you want to program "US blocked" frequencies into your memory channels via Commander, then you must go through the following process: 1. Go to the Control Panel 2. Click on Regional Settings 3. On the default screen, use the drop down menu to change the region from English (United States) to any other configuration, such as English (United Kingdom) etc. 4. Click OK/Apply. If prompted to reboot, click NO. Rebooting is not necessary, since you will be changing it back in a minute. 5. Launch FT-60 Commander. The software will detect a non-US configuration and will enable programming of the US-blocked frequencies to the memory channels, and will continue to do so even after the region is set back to US. 6. Go back into Regional Settings, and change the region back to English (United States) If you are a non-US user and you have your regional settings set to anything other than English(United States) then you should not have any problems, and you do not need to go through this process. In the USA, FCC laws govern the use of amateur radio equipment, and other nations have similar governing bodies that regulate the airwaves. It is your responsibility to know, understand, and obey the laws that effect you. THE AUTHOR OR CONTRIBUTORS OF FT-60 COMMANDER WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE UNLAWFUL MISUSE OF YOUR FT-60R!!! My ft-60 locked up, but got it fixed
This was originally posted on the other ft-60 group, and I thought
the subscribers here might benefit from it. Please note: This is not an attack on Jim KC8UNJ's Commander software. I think Jim has done an excellent job in creating free programming software for yaesu radios, and only asks for a donation, way to go Jim. I just want other ft-60 owners that may have a radio with a similar serial number range to be careful. Also, I have no interest or connection to yaesu. I purchased a FT-60 serial # 4H010XXX and programmed it using KC8UNJ's commander software. I can't remember which set menu item I was, however, what I was doing was manually programming the memory groups since I couldn't do it from Jim's software, and I was adding memories to a bank and somehow, the radio had gotten into the set menu. So since I didn't want to take a chance in overwriting any memories or messing anything up, since I had 130 memories in it, I thought by turning off the radio, then back on, would get me back into a normal mode. That's when I turned the radio back on, the musical tone was heard, and the backlight came on, all normal, but the display was blank where I'm normally used to see the batt voltage, then reverting to a memory channel or vfo, basically, the radio was dead. A friend suggested I call Yaesu and ask for help since it was still under warranty. I got a real nice person on the other end named Michael who tried to walk me through the reset procedure which didn't work of course, then he suggested I bring it in. I got there 15 minutes before closing and showed him the problem, he gave it to their tech and within 15 more minutes later, he had brought it back to life and even with 80% of my memory channels intact!. I asked him how they fixed it, but they wouldn't answer that question. One of the first questions he asked me was "did you use a pirate software to program the radio", and I asked him why, and he said "there are pirate software versions out there which could potentially damage the radio". Because of this occurance, I am going to try the RT ADMS software. The radio was configured as follows: Modified per mods.dk web page, programmed with the kc8unq's commander software, S/N : 4H010XXX Purchased 9-27-04 Location: Los Angeles, Ca. 73 |
