Re: FT-60 RCV on 927 MHz ??

As per a previous posting -

Did I miss Something specs say "cellular blocked" but I also find a hole in
the 700Mhz-900Mhz at 918.4875Mhz-943.5125Mhz is this a normal hole or is
something missing?
BK,
N7AZN
Seems I have the same whole? If you dial in 927 you get 918.487.5

Does the FT-60 receive on 927 MHz out of the box ? (927.1375 to be
specific).
It would be nice to monitor my repeater.

Thanks, Dick, W1KSZ

You need the CT-44 microphone adapter and your headphones fit in the
standard (larger) jack. I bought it, tried it and it works!

is this a standard jack that I can plug any ol' set of headphone
into, or is it a special size that I need to buy one of their
accessories for?

Also, I haven't seen it posted here but on the RailScan list I was
pointed to a Ham selling a much better SMA-BNC adapter than you find
with the radio. The rubber housing should support it and make it much
more sturdy than the thin metal ones they sell with the radio. Just
thought I'd pass this along since many people here will be using an
adapter :)

Re: Addition of Screw Driver Antenna supasses published sensitivity specifications of unit across all bands; cellular blocked.

Extensive frequency coverage is no longer a problem with my unit. I have
adapted a newly developed screw driver like antenna to the sna connector.
Integration between the screw driver and swr bridge metering circuit
required a small modification to the firmware.

I have contacted Yaesu and I am ready to transfer the patent to their
corporation. In turn they have agreed to retrofit those units already in
the field. New models will come with this as standard equipment.

The drive mechanism is so fast that it keeps pace with the unit as it scans,
even across band boundaries.

More information will be available soon, as I am low on meds at this
writing.

My 8800 has hyper memories, maybe it can do it too. (I openly admit to
not reading the entire manual yet, nearly a year after buying it). Not
enough free time to read the whole manual. :-D

Thanks for the info, I'm on an info quest now.

Hi, I'm considering buying the FT-60R as a railroad scanner. This is
after hearing many many rave reviews of the VX-150 being used for
this purpose, and then learning about this new unit. It seems that
the 60 is much more "scanner like" in that I will be able to choose a
few specific memory channels to include in a bank and scan only them
if I choose. Is that correct? Thanks in advance!

Thanks, good radio, good people.. lets move on !!

I tried to post the following bug report with Clint's group, but he
would not allow it. I found a bug in the radio's os...
Sorry. I passed the message on to Yaesu engineering and to Chip -

Re: bug

...clint kicked me off his groups for no reason because i
discovered a receive problem!
Let's see...there are over 1,000 FT-60R units in the hands of
end-users.

There are three user reports of radios being sent out without
receivers in them.

That, in my humble opinion, does not qualify as a "receive problem" in
my way of thinking.

Re: Question about Bank scanning

Ed Muro

Nick-

It might be a good idea!

I have both the VX-150 and FT-60, yes the vX-150 is good on the rail-band but I never compared the two.

Lately, we have had a discussion here about poor receiving performance of the FT-60 but I think the consensus here is that the stock dual-band antenna is the weak link.

Same goes for my Kenwood TH-F6A, out of the box it stinks on 220 MHz, replace the stock antenna with a 220 band antenna and there is a marked improvement.

If I get a chance over the next week I will see if I can do a side-by-side test with both the ft-60 and vx-150.

I sent it to Yaesu Tech Support this morning per your suggestion
(thank you Ed), and to answer your question, Yes, this is what Clint

It did not occur to me to try and send it to Yaesu tech support, I
just assumed that Yaesu was too large a manufacure of Ham gear to
accept bug reports from the field. I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER, I
really like their radios, and maybe the reason they make such good
radios is that they listen to their customers.
