Re: Loosing my mind too!
Thanks for the suggestions. I have the battery in the charger and am charging some NiMH AA. I will try them in the adapter battery tray. Re: Loosing my mind too!
Charge the battery, but most likely the battery will have to be replaced. A few years back I left mine on the shelf for six months and it did the same sort of reset on pressing PTT. It took a new battery to stop it. Regards Chuck WD4HXG On September 16, 2021 at 12:43 PM, "KJ Bald via groups.io" <kjbtoo@...> wrote:

Re: Losing My Mind
The FT-60R has advanced features that “simplify” operation. The problem—and it’s a nice problem to have—is that is takes some real work to learn them all and frequent use to remember the steps! It took me a long time to discover, or maybe rediscover, that the radio will automatically store repeaters (page 48 - Smart Search) and subaudible tones (page 24 - Tone Search Scanning) if I tell it to do so. Cheat sheets are a great gift to us FT-60R users. Thanks. Maybe the club where he took his test can step up and Elmer those taking the test. Teach them the basic to get them going. If they are left to flounder around they loose interest quickly. Just my thoughts. K3CLT Chuck Tobias

Jeff,
If you are far from repeaters or other hams these make a huge difference.

Re: Losing My Mind
It took me a couple months before I could talk on a local repeater.? There is more to it than just dialing up the frequency and pressing the Push-to-Talk button. Most repeaters have a carrier tone that they listen for with the transmission and ignore any transmissions that lack this tone.? So figuring out the correct tone is the first piece of the puzzle. My local repeater uses a CTCSS tone of 123.0 MHz.? To set that on your radio, press the F/W button, then "1" then rotate the little dial until TONE is displayed.? (Your repeater may not use a tone, but a DCS code or some other method to add a carrier signal.)? Then press F/W again. Next press F/W, then "2", then rotate the little dial until 123.0 Hz is displayed, and press F/W.? It is highly unlikely your radio uses this same tone as my repeater, so dial up your correct tone. The other piece of the puzzle is the frequency offset.? You transmit on one frequency, and listen on another when using a repeater.? Your radio likely does this for you automatically, unless the repeater does not use a standard offset. Finally, programming the radio can be difficult in general.? I bought a programming cable for about $8 off Amazon and downloaded the free "Chirp" software and got my radio set up real nice now with separate memory banks for repeaters in different cities, Fire/EMS, aviation, and even satellite frequencies. Stick with it--it gets easier, and more fun once you can use your radio! |
