Re: Charging the FT-60 with the desktop cradle or is there another w
Thanks for all the ideas and links! I have a 2012 FT-60R and the EXT DC socket on the side both runs the radio (with or without the battery) and charges the battery. The newer ones (I have bought 3 more for friends and family) don't charge the battery, just run the radio.?
I found a lot of confusing and sometimes contradictory info on the internet (no surprise) so I have sent a few detailed questions to tech support at yaesu.com. Haven't heard back yet.? Regarding battery eliminators, some have noise suppression circuitry and I suspect others don't (they don't talk about it if it's there). |
Re: Charging the FT-60 with the desktop cradle or is there another w
My FT-60 is one of the "older" ones, and I have occasionally taken the battery off the back, and plugged the radio into the wall with the supplied charger cord. Jackson might not have that luxury if his radio is one of the newest batch. But I don't have a drop-in charger, so we're even. :)

开云体育I use just the 12V cord from Yaesu and hook on to a 12V supplyor Gel Cell Battery - I have used the Gel cells during long power outages. I have 2 8AH batteries - runs the HT for days. 73 On 11/21/2016 05:11 AM, 'Nolan Kienitz'

开云体育Get a battery eliminator. ?You plug into a 12volt power supply. It does not use a battery. Check ebay. Jardy Dawson WA7JRD Ham Radio On Nov 20, 2016, at 07:11, jacksonpemberton@... [FT-60] <FT-60@...> wrote:

I would like to keep my FT-60R on constantly and scanning the frequencies I'm interested in. Does anyone know a safe way to power the HT constantly while it is on. I don't want to use up the batteries while I'm sitting at my desk, of course. |

Re: Yaesu Ft-60 ???
The radio is either a FT-60R or FT-60E - take the battery off and look at the label. It is likely the US "R" version.
The "ultimate" earpiece is one that is custom-molded to your ear. Optometrists do this. But upwards of a hundred bucks. For a speaker-mic, nothing beats the original Yaesu MH-34 from a reputable dealer. Some aftermarket copycats have the tip of the 3.5mm/4-conductor pin machined a little "differently" and there are documented cases of the plug accidentally disengaging a wee bit during use: causing the radio to TX when you don;t know it. In the past 12+ years with FT-60R and MH-34 mics, I have NEVER had that phenomenon occur. ADDED BENEFIT to the use of a speaker mic: You save on battery life! Think about it ... What takes up batteru power? TRANSMITTING and LOUD AUDIO. With the use of an earpiece or speaker-mic clipped to your shoulder, you will be turning the volume DOWN - thus saving on time between having to charge the battery. Want to save even MORE battery life? TURN THE RADIO DOWN TO MIDDLE TX POWER - but add one of those 17" floppy whip antennas. Or, better yet - the Smiley 270A antenna - which collapses to 7 inches and will perform like your stock duck. But extended, it's a quarter-wave on 2M! Beefy spring in the base to protect your radio's SMA connector. LESS THAT $25, and it out-performs the $50 SRH-320 from Diamond. 2M and 440 is all line-of-site: If you're not hitting your intended station with one of these improved antennas at 2W, chances are you won't be hitting it with 4W. SO - save TREMENDOUSLY on battery longevity with a speaker-mic and/or earpiece, and a better antenna! Clint K6LCS http://www.work-sat.com |

Re: Yaesu Ft-60 ???
LORNA, There is no cost and very little effort to join this group. You can set the options for what you get--I use the daily "digest" which gives a brief intro to the messages posted within the past day. You can read those you like; comment or reply or not; do nothing, a little, or all. But what you get is really worth it--lots of good info about the radio: Questions, answers, tips and hints, etc. Most of the members "lurk" here and you seldom hear from them unless they have something useful to post. There are also lots of useful files available, including tip sheets about using the radio. Incidentally, the two models are FT-60R (nominally, the "US version") and FT-60E (the "European version"). Basically, each has its transmit?specifications tailored for that part of the world. Otherwise, they are essentially the same. "FT-60" is often used as a nickname for one, the other, or both since most questions and replies can easily apply to both. 73, JERRY, N3AA |

Lorna,
The model names FT-60 and FT-60R are used interchangeably. The FT-60E is the European version. Most accessories, including the speaker/mics, work on all models. 73, Jim K5JG On 11/15/2016 11:57 AM, Lorna Rae Dever serendipitykids@... [FT-60] wrote:

Yaesu Ft-60 ???
I'm really not interested in joining the group, but I do have one question that no one in my local radio club can answer for me and I'm not finding an answer online. I purchased a Yaesu FT-60 a year ag -- That is what it says on the front of the radio, anyway. I got it off of E-bay with a lot of accessories. The Operating Manual that came with it is for a Yaesu FT-60R. The handheld microphone that came with it does not work so I am needing to get a replacement. Is the microphone listed in the book for either FT-60 or FT-60R, or do I need to figure out what will work on the FT-60? What is the difference between the FT-60 and the FT-60R? Thanks for your help!
