? Sounds like the keyboard lock is on.? Press and hold the 6 key for 1 to 2 seconds to unlock.

Re: unable to change frequencies

It is most likely 'locked'.
Press and hold the '6' key will /lock/unlock

Re: unable to change frequencies

Has he tried holding the #6 key which locks & unlocks the keypad &/or channel selector knob depending on how the lock menu item is set up.

If the "6" keys is pressed and held, that locks the controls on the radio. To unlock the controls, just hold "6" key down again.

His radio is probably locked. Ask him if there is an icon of a lock on the screen. ?He can press and hold the 6 key to unlock. What is locked can be changed in the menu settings. ?He should look in his manual.

Re: LI-ION battery issues ?

What is the product battery of the Li-ion battery you used and the product number of the charger ?

Have you used a charger capable of charging Li-ons ?

Re: LI-ION battery issues ?

Nolan,

I have Motorola, Yaesu, Icom, and Wouxun HT's that all came from the
factory with Li-Ion batteries and have had no problems whatsoever.

On another note, perhaps the problem is with your charger.

LI-ION battery issues ?

Just curious if anyone has experienced problems using LI-ION batteries in their FT-60?

I bought one earlier this year and after charging with proper charging device used the HT a few times with no issues.

Fast forward to the past two days and again made sure the battery was charged and tried to prep for a local club event and the HT shuts down after about 20-seconds of talk time.? Appears to be no power in the LI-ION battery.?

I put the original battery back in the FT-60 and all is working fine.

I'm doing some more trouble-shooting now to see if I can continue to repeat the failure.

Site I bought the battery from is processing an RMA as there is a one-year warranty so I don't have any concerns there, but the location did mention that some HTs are not happy with the LI-ION chemistry.

Thus the reason for my post.? I'm just looking for some data if anyone else has experienced similar.

Re: Best antenna for airband (108-137Mhz) reception?

Jim,

For base station use, I have good luck with a 300 ohm dipole hung vertically. I put mine about 30ft up in a big oak tree in my back yard, but attic deployment works OK as long as you dont have tile roof (tile normally has high metal content shielding out signals).

You can build from scratch, or if you have an FM dipole laying around, just cut it down for resonance at mid band, say 123 MHz.

Feed it with a 75:300 TV transformer you have lying around and run coax as far as you want. Terminate with cable TV connector and purchase adapter for SMA or BNC as you wish.

Good luck and best 73's,

Dave

Hello,

What is a good recommendation for an antenna for the 108-137Mhz range?

I currently have a Diamond SRH77CA on my FT-60r, but it's failing to
pick up traffic whereas my CCrane with a short telescopic chrome
antenna receives fine.

Re: Best antenna for airband (108-137Mhz) reception?

Jim,

Per the FT-60R specs in the back of the manual, Air Band sensitivity is
.8uv which is much worse than the .2uv on 2m and 70cm. The reduced
sensitivity coupled with an antenna not designed for the band makes for
less than stellar performance.

You might want to take look at the Comet SMA-503. It's specs say it
covers down to 118 MHz, so it might work ok on the Air Band as well.

Re: Best antenna for airband (108-137Mhz) reception?

You could build a discone antenna that should work well, pretty easily. I googled, and there were a lot of hits for it.

Re: Best antenna for airband (108-137Mhz) reception?

I don't think you are going to get any s\mall antenna that will be a big inprovement over the stock antenna. It will tune down there but is not designed to be a airband receiver.

Re: FT-60 Possible Problem- suggestions?

I don't understand the problems everyone is having. I have had? a FT-60 over two years and the only problem I have had is not using the batteries that everyone is trying to install to the FT-60.
The only problem I have had is not reading the complete FT-60 manual. I use it with the cities monthly emergency storm sirens and it does the job. James Boyd KA5FVG

Any Eneloop AA larger than 2000mHa is just too large in circumference to fit properly in the battery tray.? Been there, done that.? Expensive lesson.

I think someone mentioned that problem in this forum and, I think, a fix, but it has not been a problem here. You might try searching for “Eneloop” in the forum to see what pops up.
