Re: FT-101 information
开云体育Dave — I’m also refurbishing an old FT-101B which I actually bought back in the 70s and used then. ?One thing I need to know is regarding the BM adjustment pot (next to the ALC). ?I think it may have been changed inadvertently and I can’t find anything in the user or service manuals that says anything about this adjustment. ?Do you have any information about this?I have checked the rig out and it does receive and transmit and the pots and switches are noisy. ?I haven’t replaced any capacitors. ?Others have said replace all the electrolytics. ?I appreciate your providing advice for specific capacitors and sources. I had an old tube bass amplifier and had the?worst time getting capacitors with high enough voltage ratings. ?I actually blew some up with lower voltage ratings. ?Fortunately Fender had placed them in a metal box so they didn’t blow up all over the rig. ?It did make for a novel performance experience. Re: FT-101 information
Hi Dave,
Do you also have the 120 volt power cord? About your 40+ year old FT-101 high voltage capacitors. You should replace the two main high voltage capacitors on a 40+ year old FT-101. See eBay item https://www.ebay.com/itm/254527364032?hash=item3b43035bc0:g:CDoAAOSwyWheWysT (I have nothing to do with the seller). If they fail they can take out the power transformer. It's also a good idea to change out C13, the 80pf@ 1kv driver to final coupling capacitor.? Also C11 a 200pf @ 1kv in the driver plate circuit? Bad things can happen if C13 shorts. If you have scratchy controls and switches. The first thing I do with a radio that has been stored for a long time is exercise all of the front switches (especially the band switch) and pots end to end. Sometimes as high as 40 times each with the power off. Then I check to see what is still noisy and go from there. Most people like the Deoxit brand for cleaning switches and pots. Use care on the band switch - I use a toothpick and apply only to the contacts. 73 Roger VE7LB Group Owner |

Re: BM setting on ft101B
Hi Kenoli,
Sorry no one has got back to you until now. RE your BM adjustment: If you have another radio with a receiver use this procedure. Tune up the radio you want to adjust on one of the lower bands (80, 40 or 20) into a dummy load. Switch it to USB or LSB and listen to it with the second receiver. Then turn the mike gain all the way down and adjust the control right next to the ALC pot a bit off center until you can hear the carrier clearly on the second receiver. You may have to tune the second receiver off frequency a bit to hear the carrier as a tone. Then adjust the POT for the lowest carrier signal. You may also see the IC meter go up and down a bit. FT-101ZD MK0, Series 05: 12 Volt D.C. Power Supply Tolerance
Does any one know the tolerance for the 12 VDC power supply? ?With the transformer set to 117 VAC (noted on the rear panel), the 12 VDC buss measures 11.77 VDC at the Lever Switch Unit PB-1975 (NO. 20) S01 (input, brown wire), D.C. supply to the noise blanker.

Hi Michael,
Take a look in the Files section and open the old Fox Tango Newsletters pdf. Do a search for "Filter". These page number entries came up under FT-101ZD: 7942, 8233 & 8213. There are others as well but these are the first three.? You will find 7942 (Year 1979 page 42) in the pdf at page 477 (of 1292 pages). This looks like what you are looking for. If not just keep searching. 73 Roger VE7LB |

Re: Low Receive
Since it is a fast acting event... the?first thing I would do is replace the receive first RF amp.?
Q1 dual gate mosfet.? 3N211 transistors are still easy to find.? But any decent, four leg dual gate mosfet of that ilk.. will tell you if it’s bad.? I doubt the receive line fuse is blown, as others might suggest.? |
