Re: Yaesu FTDX 1200

Just joined the group and saw your post, Don't know if you have fixed it yet or not but if not have you opened the radio to check if someone has been making mod's to it or something loose and shorting it out. If none of that I would try disabling the internal tuner check the firm wear build and do a factory reset and go from there. Good luck Troy ke4ska

To spread out your request across more people, you might also try the Fox Tango group:

It never hurts to put a request like yours in other related groups. This one I started just before groups.io changed how basic (free) groups work, and I wanted to make sure we had one for Yaesu. This group is much smaller than the other one, but you never know who's going to have what you're looking for.

I recently purchased this radio on QRZ and It has an issue.

When I press the tune button, it shuts down and then restarts. I tried this into a Bird dummy load.

I was going to use this at Field day and it was a no go. Receives fine. I do not have a CW sidetone either and that’s with the monitor active.

?

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Re: Best way to get Yaesu parts?

I actually got an answer from my inquiry. Not sure if it was the web form or my
email but I was given contact information and got three ordered. They're on
backorder for a few weeks then should be available. I had to order the assembly
with the plastic shell that attaches to the back of the head unit as the spring
in the assembly is not available separately anymore, so I can't just replace the
two (?) pieces that are lost. I ordered 3 of these. One for immediate
replacement, and two in case these wear to over time.

A piece of tape works well as long as I don't want to connect and disconnect it
often. So it's not super-important, but I like things the way they came from the
factory.

Donald,?
? ?I ran into the same issue a few months ago. I found talking to the engineer directly on the phone helped me, but I must warn you that at that time they were overlogged with repairs. When you contact support for your issue, the tech will give you an idea on how long it may take to repair. In my case, the FT891 repair took 90 days, and the only thing wrong with the radio was a faulty diode causing the receiver to have no sensitivity. Unfortunately, the dealer I purchased the radio from would not personally honor the Yaesu 3-year warranty, so the radio had to go back to Yaesu. I only had the radio for less than 2 months, but it took 3 months to fix. They assured me that the issue can and most likely happen again. Unfortunately, I had to pay the shipping and most likely will have to again, regardless of the factory 3-year warranty.?

I just thought you should know.?

I tried using the Yaesu web form on their website and they don't seem understand that setting up a web form means you should monitor it frequently.

This evening I gave it another try and also emailed them using the email link on their website as well as called them. I had to leave a message because they were too busy to answer.

I don't know that there are specific groups for those radios, but the FoxTango
group might be a good place to post your questions. Also, the amateur-repairs
group is good for all sorts of radios. It has a large membership.

Re: Need help diagnosing and fixing a Yaesu YC-500 frequency counter

Check the transistors emitter. since there is a capacitor. you shouldn't see much of a signal if any.? The bypass could be bad, and that could cause low gain and the output to be incorrect.

Hi all,

As a weekend project I decided to attempt to repair a non-working YC-500 frequency counter "just for fun." The problem I have identified so far is that it does not generate its internal 1 MHz reference. The reference assembly is a small PCB module with what appears to be a straightforward crystal oscillator and divide-by-10 SN7490 IC. Unfortunately, the IC is not outputting anything. The input to the IC is a 10 MHz sine wave, about 1.5 volt p-p amplitude, centered around +1.5V. I am not sure if this is the proper amplitude and offset to pass through the hysteresis points of the 7490 input to trigger it. The +5V supply is clean and running at +5.05V.

The reference board appears to be untouched, other than my having removed both transistors to check them (both are fine) and then replaced them, and having swapped out the 7490 for a known good one. The symptoms have not changed. Any ideas?

I've attached the schematic of the reference oscillator and a screen grab of the input to the 7490.

Thanks,

Stan N6BYU
