Re: Yaesu FT450 ribbon cable fix

The little ribbon keeper tabs are add ons to the socket.
So if you can send a picture we can identify the socket size and type and find a matching socket to take the keeper tab off.

Will have to do that when I get home later today.? Are we allowed to attach files to messages in this group?

FS Yaesu MH-31 hand mic

I have for sale the original Yaesu MH-31 hand microphone with the RJ45 connector on it, which is the stock mic for the FT450, FT817, FT857, FT897, FT891 and quite a few other Yaesu radios.? Works fine, rubber on the cord is fine also.? These sell new for $45 plus tax and shipping, I am asking $30 shipped and can take paypal/check/MO.

Re: Full Duty Cycle radios

I have used an FT-950, FTDX-3000, and FTDX-101D running SSTV, AM, and RTTY at full power with no issues. AM ran with a 25-watt carrier. If I am running a contest, I use an amplifier even if low power (100 or 150 watts) to keep the transceiver cool. The FTDX-101D has a setting to show transmitter temperature. Even running high duty cycles at 100 watts, the internal fan keeps it below 45C. I had an Icom IC-7610 for a while (not any more), and it worked OK for high duty cycle modes. FT-8 is a 43% duty cycle.?

So, how would one know if there was a problem with the finals?? Is there a test to see if they are OK?

The way I look at it is it is not about specs it is about heat. ?That is why I love the temperature meter on the Ftdx101mp. ?I think most of the recent radios from Yaesu have that as part of the meter. ? Just turn on the temperature meter and watch what happens with the temperature of the final. ?Keep that within specs and you will be fine. ?I do the same with my Flex 6400 although in that case I had to add on some software that puts a meter on the screen that shows the temperature of the finals. ?I don’t think ft8 is exactly 50% duty cycle in that the temperature during receive never goes quite back to normal after transmit. ?Additionally you will see a steady rise in the temperature as you continually use ft8. ?I also am very protective of equipment so I never run more that 50% rated output power of the radio and never use an amp. ?

Thanks for the reply.? That is good to know.? I did see in the FT950 manual that it was advised to run it at 1/3 to 1/2 power if making long digital mode transmissions.??? My FT450AT handled it like that fine for 2 1/2 years, then it didn't.

Yaesu FT450 final transistor issues?

Here what was recently posted on an eham.net review for a different radio:
?
".re: the FT-450 used at the same price...there is a reason...
long history of losing the finals."
?
Has anyone else heard of this?? I did a quick google search and could find nothing about this supposed history.? If there are final transistor issues, is this just for the FT450AT or for the FT450D as well?? Any links supporting this claim would be interesting to see as well.

I was driving an AL-1200 so I could not overdrive the amp and got a good clean signal out. All yaesu radios must be carefully adjusted so they don't splatter. Very easy to do with a Yaesu. The newer rigs have the AMC which chokes them down and keeps them from over modulating.

Re: Yaesu FT-710

Another thing to look at is your antenna. If too much RF is being reflected back to the transmitter it might shut down to reduce the?chance of damaging the radio. I would use a good quality antenna analyzer to eliminate the antenna as the culprit. My next move would be to contact Yaesu at?customerservice@...?or call them at:

This is my suspicion. Do you have ferrites on all the cables (power, USB, etc.)?

Digital modes are more likely to shut down your setup due to RF getting into the computer, radio, or even the power supply, because it's transmitting at full power (whatever you have the radio set for). You might get away with SSB when you can't with FT-8.

What power supply are you using with the radio?? It might be going bad and not providing enough current or voltage.? Could also be the fuses in the power cord.? I have had fuses that check out ok with a continuity meter but still didn't allow enough current to get through.? If you have another power supply or cord you can use to try and see if it is one of those, or hook up another radio to your power supply and cord and see if it does the same thing.

What antenna are you using and how close is it to the radio? RF getting into the radio can also shut it down.

Sounds like a power supply problem. A transmitter will shut down, if you overload its power source.
