Re: Full Duty Cycle radios
I have used an FT-950, FTDX-3000, and FTDX-101D running SSTV, AM, and RTTY at full power with no issues. AM ran with a 25-watt carrier. If I am running a contest, I use an amplifier even if low power (100 or 150 watts) to keep the transceiver cool. The FTDX-101D has a setting to show transmitter temperature. Even running high duty cycles at 100 watts, the internal fan keeps it below 45C. I had an Icom IC-7610 for a while (not any more), and it worked OK for high duty cycle modes. FT-8 is a 43% duty cycle.?

Yaesu FT450 final transistor issues?
Here what was recently posted on an eham.net review for a different radio:
?
".re: the FT-450 used at the same price...there is a reason...
long history of losing the finals." ?
Has anyone else heard of this?? I did a quick google search and could find nothing about this supposed history.? If there are final transistor issues, is this just for the FT450AT or for the FT450D as well?? Any links supporting this claim would be interesting to see as well.

开云体育Yeah, what is the deal with that?? My FT710 says it supports a 50% duty cycle, but then appears to retract that claim when running FT8, which I thought was almost exactly a 50% duty cycle. ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]>

Re: Full Duty Cycle radios
开云体育I was driving an AL-1200 so I could not overdrive the amp and got
a good clean signal out. All yaesu radios must be carefully
adjusted so they don't splatter. Very easy to do with a Yaesu. The
newer rigs have the AMC which chokes them down and keeps them from
over modulating. On 1/28/2025 12:29 PM, John Geiger

Re: Yaesu FT-710
Another thing to look at is your antenna. If too much RF is being reflected back to the transmitter it might shut down to reduce the?chance of damaging the radio. I would use a good quality antenna analyzer to eliminate the antenna as the culprit. My next move would be to contact Yaesu at?customerservice@...?or call them at: Contact us?(714)827-7600 between 8AM – 5PM PSTSDR HF Technical Support option 8 (NEW) Parts?Department option?4 Customer?Service option?5 Technical?Support option?6 Good luck, Dave KD2AYQ On Wed, Jan 22, 2025 at 5:16?PM Donald Hellen via <donhellen=[email protected]> wrote:

Digital modes are more likely to shut down your setup due to RF getting into the computer, radio, or even the power supply, because it's transmitting at full power (whatever you have the radio set for). You might get away with SSB when you can't with FT-8.

Re: Yaesu FT-710
开云体育What power supply are you using with the radio?? It might be going bad and not providing enough current or voltage.? Could also be the fuses in the power cord.? I have had fuses that check out ok with a continuity meter but still didn't allow enough current to get through.? If you have another power supply or cord you can use to try and see if it is one of those, or hook up another radio to your power supply and cord and see if it does the same thing. What antenna are you using and how close is it to the radio? RF getting into the radio can also shut it down. 73 John AF5CC Sent using Zoho Mail ---- On Tue, 21 Jan 2025 18:25:05 -0600 Stiv Ostenberg <stiv@...> wrote ---

Re: Yaesu FT-710
开云体育Sounds like a power supply problem. A transmitter will shut down, if you overload its power source. Gary

Yaesu FT-710
Howdy Amigos;
? I bought an FT-710 about a year ago when I got my General license.? It has worked great so far, and I am using it in my work to promote Amateur Radio in the SF Bay Area.? Recently it has started causing me problems, and I cant figure it out. What happens is that I can hook it up just fine,? and run WSJT to access FT8.? It sees all the other stations, but when I go to transmit, the radio shuts itself off.? *click".? ?I have tried both using HRD for Cat Control, and having WSJT handle CAT itself, same problem.? Sometimes I can transmit enough to make a contact, others I have to keep turning the radio back on and trying to complete an exchange. I backed out of FT8, and tried transmitting with the mike.? As soon as I speak, KAPOW.? Its a deader.?? I tried backing the power back to 50w, and it seems happier, but 75 croaked it again. ?
Any ideas what the problem is?? I was demoing the radio in front of a large group of new hams when it decided to start this, and it looked pretty bad. |

Yaesu FT450 items for sale
I have a few extra items that came with a Yaesu FT450D I recently purchased.? Love the rig, just don't need these extras:
?
1. a set of side rails with handles for the FT450 series of radios. These are the rails that attach to the side of the radio using the mobile mounting bracket holes and provide handles in the front for carrying and protection. 2. The original box with inserts for a Yaesu FT450D which will also fit the FT450AT. Great shape, good way to store your FT450 or to send it in for updates or ship to a buyer. I will wrap it in heavy paper for shipping so it doesn't get any labels or marks on it.? I am asking $28 shipped. 3.I also have the original operators manual for the Yaesu FT450D. There are a few pencil notes in if that could be removed if wanted. These are only in a few places and don't look objectionable, and you might even find them useful.I am asking $11 shipped by media mail. Feel free to make an offer on one or all also!? I can take paypal/check/MO/Cashapp. 73 John AF5CC |
FS: Yaesu FT890 parts radio
I have for sale a Yaesu FT890 HF radio that is a parts or fix up unit.? Case is in decent condition with some scratches on it.? It has no optional filters installed, and comes with the radio only, no mic or power cord.? Here are the issues with it:
?
1. Receives on FM mode ok, no receive on other modes-maybe a damaged ceramic SSB filter, as I am guessing that all modes but FM pass through it.? That is just a guess, though.? I could hear some FT8 stations when in FM mode so it is receiving there.
?
2. Putting out around 1 to 2 watts max.? The meter shows full output, but an external meter only shows a couple of watts.? I could hear its carrier on another receiver.
?
3. SWR meter shows a high SWR even though the antenna has a low SWR, might be related to #4
?
4. It has the internal antenna tuner installed but it doesn't seem to work.? Couldn't find a match after a minute or so.
?
The display is fine, all buttons seem to work fine, VFO dial spins freely.? It could have other issues I have not been able to find.? It is being sold as-is, not working correctly.? I am asking $175 shipped and can take paypal/check/MO.
