Configuring DR5033 (booster)
Hi
The railroad club I belong to has seven DR5033 boosters and a DR5000 command station.? To give each of the DR5033 boosters a unique number I connected a loconet cable from the DR5033 LocoNet B jack to the DR5000 Loconet B jack, started up the DR5000 configuration app on a laptop, clicked on the Loconet B symbol in the app, and proceeded? to configured them one at a time, giving each of them a number from 1 to 7, and set other CVs according to our planned configuration.? The only trouble I had was that I discovered if you did not selected 'DR5033' from the module name drop down box, you would get a TIMEOUT and the configuration changes would not happen - when I consistently selected DR5033, each DR5033 was easy to configure. We installed and connected the boosters to the Loconet cable that runs between them and plugged this cable into the DR5000.? Everything worked as expect when tested - we were able to address and run locos without any problems. We decided we wanted to make one CV change on each of the boosters and assumed we could do this from the central DR5000 command station.? Even with the module name set to DR5033, and the module address set to one of the DR5033s (e.g. 5), all we got was timeouts when trying to read or change CVs. The first question is can we make these changes to one of the DR5033s from the central DR5000 command station?? If yes, can you please describe the process so that we can figure out what we are going wrong. Thanks in advance |
I have programmed a single DR5033 after installation but not with several DR5033's connected. Was just wondering from you post and have a few questions. |

To answer your questions:
?
1. I assume you verified all the ID's of each Booster before installation.
Yes, I did verify the ID's of each booster by reading back CV0.
2. After installation, did you do a test you could read a CV value on each Booster? Yes, I also read back CV 3 and CV 11 which I had also set along with CV0.
3. I am thinking you might have duplicated a ID# or one got changed.? I don't think so - I was very deliberate in setting the ID# in CV0. To verify that I could see all the boosters, in the DR5000 application I clicked on the LocoNet B hotspot and brought up the DR5000 Loconet Properties window.? Then I selected the 'Boosters' tab. The first time I did this, and only the first time, I saw a list of 7 boosters - they were not in numeric order (probably due to the order in which they responded), but they were all there.? Subsequently when I went to the boosters tab, I would see sometimes none, sometimes 1 and sometimes 2 boosters, but never again 7, even after restarting the command station.
?
It would seem logical to me that after giving each DR5033 a unique ID# that you could then continue configuring it from a central command station as long as in the LNCV Programming tab you set the product number to DR5033 and set the Module Address to the number of the DR5033 you wanted to read CVs from or write CVs to.
?
I am wondering if anything about the modules that are configured,? in our case the DR5033s,? ?is stored in the command station, .? I did use our spare DR5000 to configure the DR5033s initially, and then the other DR5000 we plan to use to operate the layout to try to make the CV changes - the DR5000 app was always run from the same Windows laptop.? Nothing in the documentation suggests this is true - I will see if I can do some testing when I am at the club to see if this is true.
?
I am quite certain we will figure this out - either we can or cannot configure CVs from a central spot.? Then we can work with the Digikeijs product team make changes to either software or documentation.
?
Thanks for the fast response.

开云体育Are there any other loconet devices e.g DR5013, DR5088RC, etc that have been programmed with similar addresses?
All LocoNet IDs need to be unique across the entire LocoNet

开云体育Jay, ? Like I mentioned in the other post, just don’t click on the “Boosters” tab and you should be fine to program the as they are.? The LNWI won’t cause any issues. ? Ryan ? ? ? ? From: Jay Lennox

Hi
James and Ryan, you are correct - clicking on the "Boosters" tab of the DR5000 Loconet Properties window with more than a few boosters will cause the DR5000 application to hang.? I have no way to confirm if this is a LocoNet overload problem or a DR5000 application problem.? I did a bunch of testing at the club layout to prove this.? Details of these tests follow.
?
Also proved that I could read and write CVs to individual?boosters from the central DR5000 as long as I did not open the Boosters tab with more than 3 boosters powered up.? To be safe I would suggest no using this tab if you have more than 2 boosters, as my single test is not conclusive proof that 3 will work consistently.

Jay,
Impressive write up! I'm not sure how many is too many either.? I currently have 8 connected on mine.?? What happens is when you click on the booster tab it interrogates the boosters for a report.? When they all report back at the same time this locks up the LocoNet therefore as you found its best not to click on it.?? I bet someone could write a script that interrogates them one at a time but like you said the info there is minimal.? We run large consist with sound for hours with no issues as to load or temperature.?? Ryan |
