I always have some kind of load on the decoder when reading the CV's on the programming track. Usually? a small motor.

You have seen that wrong !
The YD7xxx series do not have adjustable power options. You need to connect a proper power supply with the desired output voltage.
Oh, and please use correct terminology.

The YD8xxx have these diodes inside. :) And... on the DR4102 the were never needed as well. Since the DR4018 also had those diodes inside....
