DR50018 Preset 1

Hi?
I'm thinking of using a spare output on my DR50018 to switch a lighting module on and off, the lighting module has its own external power source (accessory bus so about 16v DCC) and has an option to switch on and off remotely. I've set the output I'm using to preset 1 and there is a voltage present is there a way of turning the voltage off so it is like a volt free switch?

Thanks in advance?
Matt

Re: Feedback Sensors

I realized after I posted that there was more to discover about YaMoRC feedback modules from the manual, website and a YouTube video.
Just checking my knowledge here:
* the ES-in versions still get their power from a LocoNET module closest to the command module. (YD7001 doesn't have an ES link connector)
* the unreleased RC version gets its power from the track since presumably it draws more than LocoNET can supply.
* the main advantage of the ES versions is that I can configure several 6016 modules together with only one module needing to have a USB connection. (Ignoring the stick and Configuration module). So if I am prepared to configure each 6016 module on a computer before wiring it into the layout, then there is no need to have the ES wiring. The program button makes it even easier with no USB config required at all.
* the GND version is used for switches - buttons or point motor feedback switches. But you could use a CS version in turnout mode. I haven't seen any examples of this online. To keep things less complex I could simply buy a CS instead of GND versions. There is a price difference but the CS is slightly more versatile should I need to re-design the layout.

I use the LocoNET bus for several other things too (a bunch of Digitrax things too) plus I have a few of those Digikeijs LocoNET breakout modules. The main advantage there is that I don't need a single daisychained LocoNET cable leaping from one module to the next; I can fan the connectors out so that any change in the layout doesn't need a bunch of LocoNET cables to be re-made. More useful than you might think!

My main question remains though - just how many 6016 modules can I get powered from the LocoNET cable? What are the limits? In my case I will probably neet more than a dozen 6016 modules. Maybe even up to 2 dozen by the time I finish the second deck of the layout.
If LocoNET can't power all the 6016's then what are my options?

Thanks.

Feedback Sensors

Am I correct in assuming that the YD6016LN GND modules get their power from the LocoNET T cable?
If so, then how many modules can I daisy chain from the YD7001?

I envisage using a mixture of CS, GND, and eventually RC modules probably over a dozen in total. What is the best way to connect all these modules back to the YD7001 via LocoNET? Or should I be looking at using the ES module to daisy chain?

Difficulty acquiring locomotives with a Duplex throttle

I have a DR5000 (now a YD7001) connected to a LocoNet with a UR93 on it. I can run locomotives fine with either the DT602D or the UT6D throttles. However I can't seem to acquire the locomotives unless I plug them into the LocoNet directly. Has anyone else encountered this issue and is there something wrong in my setup?

Re: DR4088xx S88 modules

Or get rid of the turnout position feedbacks, don’t really need occupation feedbacks either?

Many Thanks

Thankyou Karst, I suspect the? 3 meter rule is the cause of the issues. this is going to be an expensive correction then as there are 11 modules on the layout handling track and turnout feedbacks. Even more so that i will swap to LN modules rather than s88.
Having just re-read your reply again am i right in thinking I could have for example 4 YD6016LN- CS modules and each of those modules could have 2 YD6016ES modules attached thus giving a total of 12 modules.?
The mainlayout is 3m x 1.5m.The offshoot to the right is not? connected to the feedback system

Yes, the YD7001 Firmware can handle up to 16 modules, from which 8 are managed, the rest is unmanaged. ( managed means, the YD7001 controls what the feedbacks send to control software as well which are the addresses)

Further the maximum length of cable, starting from the ext88n-IN socket on the YD7001 until the very last Feedback's s88n-OUT must not exceed 3 meters. Some people believe 5 meters should work. Well it might, but it's outside specifications.

?

Is this a common issue with the digikeigs DR4088 family of modules.

Yes there is,

- as soon as wiring between module and track exceeds about 3 - 4 meters

- wiring to the track is twisted

- sections of track exceed 2-3 meters.

- the environment is "noisy" ( e.g. a lot of WiFi, Fluorescent lighting, big transformers )

Then the inputs act as a kind of antenna and will generate random occupation signals

Are the YamorC replacements more reliable?
Yes they are, since their inputs contain both a physical noise filter, as well as a configurable software filter.

Would using YAMORC YD6016 Loconet modules be better?

We advise LocoNet ( = YD6016LN ) for distances between feedback modules being larger than 1.5 meters. Note that each YD6016LN?can be extended by a maximum of 5 pcs YD6016ES when locally more than 16 input are required.

Karst

Andrew

Should be ok then, have increased the number of s88 modules in the yd7001 to cover the number of contacts you have installed?

The above issue shows in both Itrain and also the S88 feedback monitor on the YAMORC YD7001 software.
Ok question time

Keep your eyes on eBay, I see them for sale quite often and recently bought another couple from there

I'm? currently using Digikeijs DR5088RC for occupancy detection and railcom feedback.? With my recent layout expansion I find myself in need of 2 more DR5088RC modules, but have been unable to locate any worldwide.? I have been waiting for the YAMORC YD6016LN-RC which is equivalent to the DR5088RC, but it continues to be delayed.? Does anyone in this group know where I could purchase any DR5088RC modules?? Or does anyone know of an arduino DIY equivalent design I might be able to build myself?

If you do not want to have a short on the DR5033 shutting down the DR5000, then you can change LNCV3 to 10 on the DR5033 by using the DR5033 App.

Re: DR5033 Wiring to DR5088RC Diag wrong?

Thanks Dennis. Good to confirm and rule out. I had an issue in one area on the layout. It would short and shutdown. Coupled with that, I decided to move all electronics from a slide out tray to a front mount on the layout. During this move I am verifying all wiring (that’s how I spotted this). I am in the process of moving all equipment and it’ll take awhile. If after that, and a problem still exists, I’ll post the issue in detail. Cheers and thank you kindly.

Re: Connecting Z21 app, DR5000 and Train Controller

You can connect via USB with a DR5000, and one protocol on WiFI/LAN - you cannot have a different protocol on WiFi and different one on the LAN

Re: DR5033 Wiring to DR5088RC Diag wrong?

The DR5033 does not have a J & K designation.?? Just wire it up as shown in the drawings.

Can you give us more information on what is your problem?

Re: Connecting Z21 app, DR5000 and Train Controller

You can only have one wifi protocol, but can still have wired connections to Loconet and / or Xpressnet.
