Re: X-Air Ultralight Aircraft H wheel pants

have a new in box xair H wheel pants make offer

?

no he basically reverse engineered the X-Air design by looking at different parts of the aircraft deciding what he thought he could do better and redesigning it. Looks okay to me except for the front wheel where the wheel axle is now in front of the main axis and not a trailing link design. This means that the aircraft will be very skittish on the ground.

Interesting story and videos, but I'm a bit confused... Did this guy just reverse engineer the existing X-Air design, or is he the original designer?

Hi Seamus.
Sorry was unable to finish yesterday . The trick is to custom modify your old screen while still attached with thin cardboard stuck on to the edges with contact and then trim to size with a pair of sisors.. I?extended the top area?for extra protection and to give the screen a better look . The original v?gap between the two halves gives a rather?unfinished look.? I also extended the rear line by about 25mm so that the screen?extends?about 20mm.?past the the?front roll bars. The holes for the?nose wheel and engine supporting tubes also needed a little tweaking .?Only?? then did I remove the screen and lay it flat? on the new 3mm lexan?to?mark?around it with a?marking pen . The original screen was in two halves . The previous owner had ?simply marked around the assembled two halves and cut out the screen as one piece. It gives a much improved look to the whole aircraft , is stronger and I am sure causes less drag. I was also advised by an AMO who has experience in these matters that by rounding the edges with fine emery paper the risk of hair cracks developing is reduced . The task of fitting the "whole " new wind screen is a little more challenging than the stock split version but well worth the extra effort. I stripped off all the fuselage skins completely so as to have full access . I then attached a heavy weight?to the rear end of the keel and removed the bolts from the front roll bar tubes, engine supporting tubes and the nose wheel tube .The keel tube is then free to pivot on the rear roll bar to give you enough clearance? with a little fiddling and manipulation to thread these tubes through the holes in the screen and get it into place . You can't do this on your own .? Do not under any circumstances ask your wife to help you with this task?!!! A mate with?a patient disposition?and a ?couple of beers?should do the trick. ?. You will also have to disconnect your throttle , choke? cables , electric engine wires and radio co axial Arial leads . As I said earlier it's a bit of a schlep but well worth the effort . It is very easy to scratch the lexan during this part of the job and when I do it again I will tape foam rubber on to the ends of the tubes ahead of time .Do not predrill the holes at the bottom of the screen . I followed the advice of Michael's excellent kit assembly?video? and it worked very well . Be careful not to overtighten the button screws . The pod distorts and doesn't look as neat as it could . With the 3 mm. lexan I found it unnecessary to tie the rear edge of the screen to the front roll bar . I did however install pipe lagging ( the? foam type that zips closed ) along the entire lengths of the front roll tubes and from the dash board to slightly past the screen on the nose wheel tube . This gives a nice snug fit? between the screen and the front roll tubes and seals the gap between the nose wheel tube and the screen . Very comforting on those chilly Winter morning flights. I used 25mm on the front roll tubes and 50mm. on the nose wheel tube. Easy to fit light?and worked like a treat. In hind sight I would recommend that you remove the control column and throttle lever on the left side and throw a large cushion between the seats . This is an
?excellent time to do any maintenance work inside the cockpit .?Oh and a final bit of advice . Book a session with your local chiropractor for the next day ahead of time Good luck

One thing to do first before removing old screen,?is look how it fits at the moment, if it needs a bit more here and there you can mark it on the old screen, also to maybe make your tube holes a better fit, if you don't have one of my windscreen hole kits :-)

I replaced my windscrean last year and learned a few things that you may benefit from . firstly the Original Lexan was too light? 2mm and flexed alarmingly under full power . So I used heavier material , 3mm. and found that this sorted out the flexing problem. there is obviously a weight penalty?but I think that the benefits far outweigh this ,??

Well the problem I'm having is that when I took the old winshield out I had it in a different building and the building caught fire while me and my wife were at work and everything I had in it was burnt to a crisp so now I'm without a pattern to go back with.

Re: X-Air Ultralight Aircraft Looking for XAIR standard engine mount drawing for Jabiru 2200a

Rotax will provide better torque, esp if you want to use floats. ?My Jabiru 2200 performs fine, based on proper maintenance.

Keep the Rotax, more reliable than the Jabiru.
