Looking for help checking functionality 5
I bought a x5105 and it was just delivered. This is my first HF radio and I have yet to get my general. I've been playing around with it a decent amount and I haven't been able to recieve any signals yet. So I have been trying to figure out how I can check it's functionality. I have tried tuning to some beacon stations, RTTY frequencies, etc., and have not heard anything yet. I have a 16' random wire dipole center fed strung up on my patio... it's a concrete patio/deck about 10' up from street level and there's another smaller size deck above me. So it's definitely not ideal conditions for an antenna but at least it's outside with some decent sky exposure. I have a CB radio and from a few feet away it seems like the audio gets through when I monitor that, although the audio quality is sketchy, and AM from 10' away is way different from USB so I'm not really convinced this means anything. When I have the radio tune the antenna it is usually able to make an SWR around 1.2 or lower. I'm hoping this is just because I'm around a lot of QRM but I'm a little nervous it might be busted. So I'm hoping there's something I can do to check relatively foolproofly that it's working? Thanks

Any suggestion to improve modulation in SSB ? 6
Hi, I'm trying to have some QSO in SSB . I had some but most of people I talk to is telling me to improve modulation . I 'm using the original mike arrived with radio and as settings I have: COMP ON level 1:6 EQ ON (Bass , Medi, Treb all 0 db as default) In your experience , which setting should be the best for optimal modulation in SSB ? Is there anything else I can set to improve modulation ? I didn't try the internal mike so far, under the assumption that should be worst than the external mike. Thank you for any suggestion. 73 Bruno

Does the 5105 support an unamplified 8ohm speaker? 5
Hello everyone, Is the title says can the 5105 use an external unamplified speaker? Also in menu number 6 there is a button that is marked s/p. You push the button and it goes between speaker and phone. Also the icon next to the volume level bar changes from a speaker to a headphone. Doesn't seem to do anything else. I was hoping it would change the characteristics of the headphone jack to a speaker jack but no joy. Just wondered if there is something wrong with the radio or that's the way it works normally. I would like to use it with a clear speech external DSP but it only supports speaker level input. Also an 8 ohm speaker itself doesn't seem to work. -- Thank you, Randy AB9GO

Which power output to be used with FT8 ? 10
Hello I started to use X5105 in FT8 and I am very happy . Everything is working fine. But now a doubt came in my mind. It's ok to use full power of X5105 (5 Watts) ? Or i should have to use a lower power not to damage the TX ? The doubt I have came into my mind because on major TRX like Yaesu or ICOM there are many warning that says for example, not to use more than half of max power in order not to damage the TX finals due to heavy duty imposed by FT8. Is this true (heavy duty cycle) also for X5105 running at max power 5 watts ? Should I have to use 3 watts for example to be more safe ? Thank you for any advice Bruno

Xiegu ordering parts? 9
Hello this weekend I picked up a 5105 and found that the BNC connector center receptacle is loose. As in BNC has been used a lot and the center receptacle no longer grips the male pin tightly and when you wiggle the connector the connection comes and goes. Looking at the BNC you can tell the receptacle is actually wider than it should be. So I would like to order a replacement and install it. Rather than look through many many catalogs trying to find this thing I would like to order it straight from Xiegu. Does anyone have a connection or is there a process to secure parts directly? Thanks, Randy randy.ab9go@... -- Thank you, Randy AB9GO

intermittent power output 9
My X5105 was working fine but suddenly started randomly dropping its power output to below one watt . Some time it would work for over an hour with no problem sometime failed after a few minutes.Running the ATU would mostly make it fail or come back. Being out of warranty I was out of luck. When I finally had some free time I decided to open the radio in search of a bad contact. While unscrewing the back panel it felt weird on the screws. After removing the panel I found out that 2 of the 4 brass standoffs were still on the back panel while the two others were on the PCB. All 4 were loose. I removed the two from the back panel and secured them on the PCB and tied the two other ones. At this time I did power up the radio with the intend to search for a bad contact but the radio was now working and running the ATU it continued to work.I did reinstall the panel and it has been working since then, over a month now, and didn't fail a single time. Xiegu uses the brass standoffs for the ground return between the PCBs. The standoffs being loose were making intermittent contacts. I thought I share this for the benefit of others who might have a similar problem.

X5105 V3.0 for sale
This radio is working great with no known problems. The Battery charges to 12.36v from a 13.7v supply. Battery starts at 12.0v off the power supply which is good for 2-4 hours before needing a recharge. The SN is X0301240. It has the latest firmware V3.0.0, Nov 26 2019 16:10:50. It is packaged in the original box and includes: - X5105 radio - Microphone - Power cable with Powerpole connector - Accessory 8 pin DIN cable with a SignaLink RJ45 connector (SLCAB8PM) - COM Interface cable: USB to 3.5mm 3 wire plug - Operation Manual V3.0 The SignaLink in the photo is not included but used to show the radio in transmitting during a FT8 QSO. I have infrequently enjoyed this radio since May 2021 in a few POTA locations and on my sunny patio using CW, SSB, Winlink and FT8. I have now upgraded to a IC-705 radio. Email me for photos of the rig including a FT8 QSO using a SignaLink connection. Asking: $410. Peter Fournia, W2SKY

Bioenno lithium iron battery 5
I’m not sure if this was covered here or not but picked up one of these great little batteries and wanted to share my thoughts on it. Bioenno Power model BLF-1203 12V 3AH 36W hours lithium iron Phosphate battery. You can draw a constant 3 amps and a max surge of 6 amps. This battery weighs only 0.8 lbs. (0.4 kg.) the battery can run the X5105 a long long time and takes only 2 hours to charge. the Bioenno Pwer company also sells the for charger for $20. And I’m pretty sure it will charge all or their batteries in case you want to own more then one. I plan to buy a larger 30A battery to support my Yaesu FT 991A. here is a link to the company: https://www.bioennopower.com/collections/lifepo4-batteries-for-communication-equipment-ham-radio/products/copy-of-12v-3ah-lfp-battery-pvc-blf-1203a anyway, I’m I’m also planning to purchase the LightSaver Max Portable Solar Generator. From what I’ve read, they are of the highest quality on the market but they are not cheep. They are also sold out and won’t be caught up on production until March or so. If anyone owns one of these, I would love to hear your thoughts! Here is the link for this power option that seems to be both comparable and a perfect fit for the X5105 field operator. https://www.powerfilmsolar.com/products/lightsavers/lightsaver-max-portable-solar-charger thanks for reading and 70+3 hi hi KG2RG Out!!

I would like to find a way to use a computer-type headset with mic, for portable operation. 6
I would like to find a way to use a computer-type headset with mic, for portable & pedestrian mobile operation. So I'm hoping that as new members come along, someone with experience will chime in with a solution. I'll pursue it on my own, meanwhile. Doug, K8RFT

X5105 CW Mode Transmit Intermittent 9
I have an X5105, FW Version 3.0. The latest chronic issue that has worsened with use is intermittent transmit in CW Mode. Simply put, when the unit is placed into CW Mode and a key (paddle or SK) is inserted into the jack, the unit will initially transmit fine and eventually stop. The relay does engage and the TR LED illuminates with key down, but no power out. When the unit is shutdown for about 15 minutes, it returns to transmitting for about 10 minutes, than stops. Very annoying issue. I have checked the following items in an attempt to triage and now stumped. This issue occurs: with keying contacts measuring infinity ohms (key up) and a solid 0 ohms (key down). with antenna jack terminated into a dummy load or tuned antenna. with ATU ON or OFF. at 0.1 to 5 W output setting (Po). with internal battery fully charged or low. with external battery power. with CHARGING ON or OFF. with or without ACC jack PTT used. with or without manual use of PTT button. with or without microphone connected. independent of QSK Time delay selected. independent of key type (MAN, AUTO-L, AUTO-R). Has anyone seen this issue? Have I missed anything? Any suggestions from the group? Thanks. Best 73, Lou N2JPR

X5105 Switch on Problem 12
Hello All, I recently acquired a used X5105., and so far have been unable to switch on and access any functions. -It will not switch on , no normal power up with or without external DC supply. -No response to hold Menu and On button. - I have been able to access the firmware update XG Bootloader mode by pressing both up/down buttons and on button, and seems I have successfully uploaded latest 3.0 firmware. However once loaded it does not go back to charge/standby mode as expected. This is the only action where I have seen the screen light up. Strangely accessing the bootloader is only possible with the internal battery, and does not work when an external dc supply is connected? I have checked the battery charge level directly all seems OK. So any suggestions about a possible remedy would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance! 73 Steve W8SAW/G4DFN

X5105 ACC Port issues ? 10
Has anybody experienced connection problems with the ACC port using the 8 pin din to trrs cable for ft8? I was having intermittent interruption of the decode and transmit audio and solved it by reseating the plug. Now the decode side works but the transmit audio isn't making it through and no amount of reseating corrects it. Tried a different cable with the same result. I guessing it make be the port itself. Any thoughts?

FM modulation transmit not on target frequency
If I set my X5105 to FM modulation, the transmit frequency is about 6.8 kHz lower as shown in the display. For example, the Xiegu shows the frequency 29.160 MHz in the display, the real transmit frequency is around 29.1532 MHz. All other modulations are fine. Does anyone have the same issue?
