Re: Receive is very very attenuated - maybe need to update
Updating firmware is not very likely to affect receiver sensitivity.
Your description sounds like the "classic" damage due to overload.? (Input transistor burnout) I think your best option is to send it to Radioddity for service - after checking with them first. -------- Doug, K8RFT |

开云体育I checked and unfortunately I cannot reproduce the steps for you because the USB to Serial Prolific device doesn’t have drivers for macOS Ventura yet. Homebrew is a software package repository for macOS and can be used to install programs such as the minicom command line terminal software. The normal update instructions show how to use TeraTerm terminal software on Windows PC to upload the firmware using the XMODEM protocol. Those instructions would need to be followed to enter the boot loader and upload the firmware via a terminal program. Ie. Remove power, Hold +/- volume, send the firmware file. The blog I sent earlier shows how to similarly upload a file to a device using the XMODEM protocol using minicom on macOS. The instructions should be applicable and used where the TeraTerm application is used. I don’t have time now But, I can go through the steps on a Linux machine (Raspberry Pi) using minicom soon and take a screen capture. Joe

开云体育Can you borrow a windows laptop to update your 5105??I would not try to use a Mac unless I had access to a Mac guru who can walk you through the process, too many ways to create other issues.? If you were the individual who damaged the receiver with another transmitter I would have zero expectation that firmware will resolve the problem. A phone call to Radioddity might point you in the right direction for repair.? Nick Marsh WB4SQI On Mar 23, 2023, at 10:44 AM, KG2RG <justinandyazny@...> wrote:

Nice QRZ page Lou, we have similar interest in vintage rigs, projects and CW. Give me an old boat anchor with a grid block keyed oscillator and ripples on the scope coming off the full wave rectifier and I'll upgrade the filter capacitors and smooth out the ripples. But if I try to update some firmware on a X5105 with a mac and I'm lost hi hi

If you screw up updating the firmware that's what you'll be left with. . . . A Brick! Roy WA0YMH? On Thu, Mar 23, 2023, 9:20 AM KG2RG <justinandyazny@...> wrote: Roy, what do you mean turn it into a brick? |
Re: Receive is very very attenuated - maybe need to update
开云体育“Brick” is an industry-term for any piece of electronics that has a failed firmware upload that cannot be recovered. Essentially the embedded device is broken/useless, or a useful as a “brick”. ? I hope that helps. ? Lou N2JPR ? Sent from for Windows ? From: KG2RG

Re: Receive is very very attenuated - maybe need to update
I would suggest that you send your radio in for inspection and evaluation before you turn it into a brick! Roy WA0YMH? On Thu, Mar 23, 2023, 9:06 AM KG2RG <justinandyazny@...> wrote: thanks Joe,? |

开云体育It looks like minicom supports XMODEM protocol and can be installed using home brew.

开云体育Oh I am sorry. I think I got confused with another firmware update project I worked on. I think I did end up using my windows machine to do this update.?

Re: Receive is very very attenuated - maybe need to update
Try this -
Click on "X5105". Firmware and manuals are available there. Their support department can be helpful answering questions, too. But I think it is more likely that the receiver is damaged from the input overload. Try the update and find out if helps.? If not, check with a Xiegu dealer (seller) for repair service. -------- Doug, K8RFT |
