Re: Ce-19 data connection

I did find the manual for the old 1.0xx firmware. I am waiting on the usb to serial cable to get here from China (that the previous owner lost) so I can update it. Hopefully ver 3.0 will improve the noise on receive. I like the tuner, LCD, and swr scan features.

Re: Ce-19 data connection

Hopefully that means you've downloaded the manual.? If not, they're available in this group's FILES section.

I made the newby mistake. It wouldn’t send cw because it was in practice mode. The 1/8 plug was fine. I bought it used without a manual. Thanks

I was able to trim the plastic back on my 8-Pin Mini Din cable so it seated properly in the X5105.

I ended up not using the CE-19 at all, though. I made this cable instead.

The cable plugs into a TRRS USB sound card dongle.

It needed up being a pretty clean setup.

I never had an issue with any of the 1/8” stereo jacks on the X5105; any plug fits and works. I did have an issue with the 8-pin mini-DIN ACC connector jack. The 1/8 stereo plugs that come with this kit are for reaching the recessed keyer jacks right? Mine didn’t come with any and I want to be sure before I order them on eBay?

Factory reset

I did the reset and it lost the options setting. Luckily I wrote down the hex string. Seems ok now. Strange that whatever option meant wasn’t preserved.

Re: Ce-19 data connection

I found the setting for code practice (BK off). Now it’s not receiving. Probably did something but no sign of tx or rx now. Did a factory reset. Probably time to quit for now.

Re: Ce-19 data connection

This is now keying the keyer but not transmitting. It came with ver 1.01.04 Feb 2018. Is there a setting for code practice on this old software that prevents transmit? I wasn’t expecting that. I kept thinking it needed a special plug.

Re: Ce-19 data connection

The 1/8 stereo plug on my paddles is a standard plug. Looking at the data interface kit it shows 1/8 stereo plugs that have a longer plug with a shoulder. I assumed that was to make tip ring and shield reach through the end plate into the jack. The standard plug on my paddles doesn’t reach. I will find another and try it. Thanks

In the system menu, option #7 allows Ham or “Wave” (short-/all wave) bands. The All wave band mode works fine on my V3.0 unit and I can tune continuously on HF.

Has there been any progress on figuring out an All-Band mod for this unit yet? I know the 6100 has an option for this. And while there's an "All Band" type of option in the X5105 settings, it seems to be non-functional.?

Re: Receive audio quality

I turned off the agc and set rf gain to 45. 40 and 75 meters sounded better on a dipole?

Re: Receive audio quality

Great post, Lou.? Very helpful.? I'm going to try your values and see how well they work for me.? I tend to use a bit tighter H- and L-cut values.? For NR, did you mean NB?? That's the one that helps fix ignition, pulse type noises.? I use the NR and push it pretty high for CW.? It works for me to reduce the "SHHHHHH" noise these radios have in the audio.

Re: Early radios and new firmware

No issues that I'm aware of.? If your serial number is X0300190 or higher, follow the version B instructions.? If lower, follow version A instructions.? Recommend V3.00_build008.? Earlier V3 builds had problems.

Early radios and new firmware

Is there any known issues upgrading probably early hardware to ver 3? Mine is used and has something like 1.0.4 now.

Re: Audio

Sounds reasonable. No version of the 5105 does Bluetooth does it? 6100? I’m probably going to use the earbuds anyway due to size. ?Managed to work a few stations on 40 with good reports on TX. Thanks

In my last reply, I forgot to mention that, in addition to the audio amplifier I run, I also homebrewed a 4:1 (stereo to mono) audio transformer for the X5105 and other audio-bud type outputs. Yes, the X5105 is a 32ohm, stereo headphone output and should not be use with 8 or 4ohm mono speakers directly.

?

See the picture below. The transformer can be used in either direction, but it doesn’t make much sense going from 8ohms to 32ohms.

?

The 32ohm, stereo input side gets plugged into the X5105 and the 8ohm mono output side gets plugged into a speaker. The third connector (screw terminal) is the same as the other input but terminated so it can plug directly into my headphone amplifier instead of the X5105. The transformer can handle up to about 10W RMS to the speaker, way more than anyone would need. If you decide to make one, I highly recommend using real shielded microphone-type cable for the connectors to eliminate outside noise on the audio.

?

This transformer makes a big difference in audio clarity and provides the ability to crank-up-the-volume, when necessary. BTW, I set the X5105 audio output software setting to headphone when using the amp, and speaker without the amp, for clearest audio.

I read a webpage where the guy said he was told by Xiegu to only use 32 ohm headphones) earbuds

seems to help some. No rf feedback either. Maybe because I am using it on a dipole fed with coax and not a random wire
