Re: how to make PTT
Hi all,
I wanted to use my BX-184 microphone with a built-in voice keyer with my new X5105. I've used it with the FT-817 for a while and enjoyed the parrot very much during activations. I've read that the Xiegu would use the same wiring as the IC-7000 so I followed the instructions of the manual (, page 3, bottom right). The mic itself worked but not PTT. With the help of this thread I realized that I need to connect MSVSW (Pin 3) with GND (Pin 7). Now PTT, and with this, the parrot is working, too. Maybe this is of help for you. Michael, DK1MI |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýLike many ?Xiegu devices I am willing to bet the 5105 is abandoned, like the GSOC and probably G90 and 6100. They crank out new radios without finishing previous models.?Nick Marsh WB4SQI On Oct 18, 2022, at 2:01 PM, Nils Young <nilsyoung@...> wrote:

Any FirmWare updates in the future?
Saw recent that there¡¯s new FW for the G90 and the IC-705. My G90¡¯s in the hands of a person with more steady paws pending a minor repair; the ¡®705 I am loathe to touch ¡®cause, well, I like it just as it is. But I wonder . . .
Has Xiegu abandoned the X5105 or might there be a new FW in the future for this nice little radio? Nils / W8IJN |
Re: Using your Xiego X5105 as an Antenna Analyzer
This SWR plot feature on the X5105 actually works pretty well.
I used this feature just last week to retune my portable 6m magloop () for SSB operation (it was setup for FT8). I have a weekly sked with some local friends on 6m SSB and decided that since it was a beautiful fall day I would operate from a local park with the Xiegu and my loop instead of doing the sked from home. This loop has greater than 100 Khz 2:1 SWR bandwidth, so frequent retuning is not necessary as with HF magloops? but it is finicky, as the capacitor is actually two aluminum plates? whose spacing is controlled by adjusting a pair of teflon screws (very touchy).? The SWR display let me see exactly where the loop was resonating and made it pretty easy to re-tune the loop to within a few tens of Khz from my desired operating frequency after a few tries.? This was my first time using the X5105 on 6m and this setup worked very well for my sked.? Cheers Michael VE3WMB? |
Using your Xiego X5105 as an Antenna Analyzer
See
for a short note about another way to use the X5105. It does appear to show a much earlier version of the firmware - my X5105 antenna analyzer display looks a bit different (better!). I had not thought about using the rig this way, but then I already had other, smaller analyzers.? Well, one of them, the MFJ-259, is actually about the same size.? My favorite is the NanoVNA-F. -------- Doug, K8RFT |
Re: GSOC on X5105 - dissapointed
I got a GSOC today, no Idea what firmware it is on and I confirm that it adds waterfall display which looks like it is displaying the opposite side of where it should, cat frequency and mode change only but ,
I got this for experimental procedures and plan to feed I/Q from TruSDR and see if Cat control can be persuaded? |
X5105 Front End Overload from AM Radio Station
Hey group. ?I live a few miles from a 50kw broadcast station that wreaked havoc on the X5105 receiver. ?I¡¯m posting this topic to share my solution in the event it can help another ham.
I purchased this band stop filter on Amazon. ?The intended use is for the SDR receive-only community but it will handle 5 watts pushed through it no problem. ?I can¡¯t vouch for more power than that. ?The only other concern I had was insertion loss. ?I found it to be negligible after testing with a nanoVNA. ?Here¡¯s the link: 72 de w2nc |

I don't. I'm not much of an electronics guy, so I'm totally clueless. I just was making a guess based on some google-fu.

I wouldn't know what specifically to look for once I start tearing into it.? How do you know it¡¯s the final? I had one, same stuff going on. Disassembled it, one or two of my brass standoffs between the two boards were LOOSE. Google it and you¡¯ll see some folks have had Same

Antenna. 20m dipole, with SWR of about 1.03 (Using the internal tuner.) Unaided = ~1.8

What are you using as a load, antenna or dummy load? What is the SWR of whatever your feeding the output into? |

Fixing Blown Power Amplifier?
So I could use some help from the group here:
My x5105 is only putting out about 0.8w of power, no matter what I do. I've pushed/set/adjusted the "Po" button a bunch of times, adjusted a bunch of options, and the output watts never changes. I tried a couple different swr/pwr meters, thinking maybe I had a bad unit, but both meters report outputs of less than 1 watt. Mode doesn't seem to matter: USB, CW, whatever - all are less than 1 watt. I'm about 1 year + out of warranty, so have nothing to lose. My googling has taken me to reddit, where a guys says he has a broke power amplifier. Any suggestions on how to fix this? I'm pretty much a noob at stuff, so have no idea where to start. I'd rather not bin a $600 radio if I don't have to.... |
Xiegu X5105 - Power/Current/SWR measurement - ATU Test (youtube)
There's an old video I had found on YouTube, but had forgotten to post a link. Here's its description.
I found it VERY useful and informative. Xiegu X5105 - Power/Current/SWR measurement - ATU Test308 subscribers

Hello, in this video I am testing the X5105 (2nd batch) for power vs current measurement. I powered the X5105 at 13.6 V on a 50 Ohm dummy load. In the first part of the video I have tested every power level and in the second part I tested full power on different bands. I repeated the second test using a full charged internal battery but there was no difference whith the external power measurements (so I removed the battery test from the video). In the last part I have tested ATU capabilities. I used a variable pure resistive dummy load (just some no-inductive switched resistors). I found a very reliable SWR measurement and a great ATU performer. It can match a 10.0:1 SWR load (but it is a pure resistive impedance). Anyway really not bad for this small portable rig. -------- Doug, K8RFT |
