Replacement turn signal options
14
Hi all - my front turn signals have finally cracked with age and are now sadly hanging. Has anyone used replacements other than oem that are consistent with the W's style? Don't really want to pay the oem price but there must be others out there that look as nice. Thanks!

Tank seam trim
5
I've never particularly liked the look of the tank's crimped edge seam, but I found a way to improve it. I got some 1/4" chrome plastic trim material, the kind used for car door edges. It's self-adhesive and pliable enough to fit around the curves at the front and rear of the tank. A heat gun can soften that up to make it easier and it also melts the adhesive so that when it cools it makes a stronger bond. Prior to fitting it, I used some Griot's Paint Prep Cleaner to remove any old dirt and wax that would interfere with the bond. The stuff is a u-shape. I used a putty knife to open it at the end and then it just went on easily over the seam. The size is such that it makes an almost seamless transition to the tank metal. With the aid of a heat gun and a hobby knife, I managed to get it all the way to the tongue that sticks out of the rear of the tank. That will be hidden once the seat is installed. One final touch was to add a coat of wax over the edge of the seam to prevent moisture getting inside and causing rust. I've seen that often on ugly chrome wheel well covers. I think it's a subtle but effective addition to the tank. It works especially well with the silver, though I'm not sure how it might look on the other colors.

Alternate Battery and Light Options
11
I should have sent this out a month ago, _before_ picking up a new standard battery for my W, but how are people feeling about the newer types of batteries for our bikes? It seems like the improved charge holding and smaller size of something like a Lithium Ion battery might be pretty awesome but I've heard concerns about them failing or not handling the charging from a motorcycle set up to charge a regular battery very well. The W seems like it's pretty sensitive to weak batteries, so I get a bit nervous, but, I've not looked into it for a while and technology keeps on improving. On a similar note, has anyone found LED lights that seem to work particularly well? Preferably, something that I could easily swap out -- ideally, I'd love to keep the housing and bezel for at least the headlight, but keeping it for all the lights would be nice. Hi all, new owner.....
5
Hi all, new owner of a 1999 w650 after many years of large touring and sports machines. Age and wisdom have got the better of me and I'm happy having a blast around the rural roads in Wiltshire UK on my newly acquired machine - really pleased with it and am now beginning to tinker..... Probably an easy answer but I can't see a way to change the gear change pedal height? My past bikes have all had a rod with a right / left hand threaded end which just moved the lever but I can't see it on this one. Any clues appreciated...! Cheers.

Front fork bushings NLA?
3
My front forks are completely disassembled for cleaning and refilling with heavier oil. I want to replace the white nylon bushings which go into the groove of each damper rod. My dealer looked them up, and come to find out you cannot buy just the nylon bushing, you have to buy the entire damper rod, spring, and oil lock piece! But that's not really an issue now, because the dealer also told me that this is no longer available. I find it hard to believe that these bushings fit only this model of bike, so does anybody know where this white nylon bushing can be sourced in the aftermarket? Also, one of the large Teflon coated bronze bushings is worn down to the bronze, and the small and large Teflon coated bushings are still available, although my dealer says priced at almost unobtainium prices, at about $35 a piece. Does anybody know if these aftermarket bushings are available?

SuperZilla lube
Anyone tried it? Seems it would work well on things like chains and cables. David Lakes Area Oakland County , MI 2000-W "Create the sequence of goodness, and the consequences will always be good."

Anyone have any opinions about the Pacifica? Please chime in. Also interested in pricing on my current steed - may have to part with it due to some hip injury issues. David Lakes Area Oakland County , MI 2000-W "Create the sequence of goodness, and the consequences will always be good."

Replacement kill switch part number
Need to order a new kill switch but I've got a 2001 USA model W650 with short cables ordered from japan. Seems there are multiple versions. Is 1766 just a replacement for 1773? Odd to go down in number. High bar: 46091-1778 Low bar: 46091-1773 (2001 part Discontinued) Low bar: 46091-1766 (replacement for 1733?) Also looking for an OEM low bar if anyone has one they'd not mind parting with. thanks!

Vibration
3
Hi all. Not a new topic I'm sure.. I moved to a 16t countershaft sprocket and 120/90 rear on my 650. Speedo is spot on with GPS now but I feel vibration has gone crazy. My right thumb often goes numb or close to it. I've got the W800 cafe bars on it and it occured to me that using some sort of rubber shims rather than aluminum may help. Experience with this?

Idle knob & rpms
13
Do all W650s idle higher as they get hotter? After a few minutes of choke it's around 300rpm but after 20 or 30 minutes it's at 900. Guy who changed my chain and sprocket said he hadn't seen a bike change so much at idle. I guess it's normal because both my current and last w650 did it and I just had my carbs rebuilt.

High Performance YSS Gas shocks - Group Buy
6
Hi All, I have something new for you. If you follow what I do you'll know I'm always looking to improve the brakes and suspension of the W. I've done the front suspension and big brake kit and have finally found an option for the rear suspension that is the best bang for buck. Although the usual suspects like Hagon or Bitubo are an improvement on the terrible OEM shock absorbers, I wanted something that I could actually adjust and something with better performance. As always it's hard to keep the costs down and relative to the value of a W, it's easy to just splurge on Nitron or Ohlins! Anyway, I have managed to find a source for custom sprung YSS RG362 piggyback gas shocks at a discount. These are made for me with a chrome spring to suit 70kg to 100kg riders (17nm - 25nm). The chrome spring is an additional cost item but I like it as it looks correct on a W. You can see my mule in the attached pics with the shocks flipped around for a better suited look. These shocks are a fantastic improvement in feel, handling and comfort. Independently adjustable for Compression, Rebound and Preload they make riding on bumpy roads a pleasure. The shocks are made to order and have a couple weeks lead time. The shocks are ?595 a set. If I get enough people placing orders I can get a better price. I am in the UK and happy to ship abroad but bear in mind shipping and tax might eat up the discount. If you are interested in a set email to rick@... I need one more order and I can get a better price for everyone. Cheers Rick.

Oil pan replacement
11
Any tips on Do and Don't? Also, does the damper need to be changed at the same ? The reason for replacement is striped out oil plug threads. Once the new pan is installed, I plan on replacing the stock plug with a Stalbus drain system. My only other thought was to remove the pan, put a permanent bolt in the drain hole, then tap a new drain hole in the bottom of the pan. Does that alternative seem doable? Fw: Installing new oil pan
4
Over the years I've tried several fixes for a leaking drain plug but none have stood the test of time. I've got a Stalbus I've wanted to install as a reliable permanent fix but I decided to hold off on that until I either replaced the pan or removed it to see if I could go the Helicoil or similar route. My question is are they any "Dos" or "Don'ts" when removing & replacing the pan. Fuel Tank Issues
6
Greetings fellow Dubyaheads, Long time lurker, first time poster here. I have a 2000 W in great running shape despite having sat outside and unridden for at least three years prior to my acquiring it in 2016, but over the last 6 years I have been unable to solve a problem that is particularly troublesome. If the tank is more than half full (or half empty depending on how you look at it) It will leak gas out of the filler cap when warm. As it seemed like what would happen if the vent tube was clogged I replaced the hose on the vent nipple but did not improve the situation. I also replaced the filler cap to no avail. I ran it like this for four years simply never filling the tank more than halfway as a non-solution solution. I took a break from riding it over the past two years and when I got it back on the road last week I was determined to solve the problem this time by focusing on the metal vent tube that goes through the tank. I used a guitar string to ream it out and got it to a point where it seemed like I could feel air out of the hose when I shot compressed air into the vent hole under the cap. This seemed to solve the problem, but I noticed a very small amount of fuel at the end of the hose after a short ride, indicating that the vent tube in the tank was compromised by my reaming with a steel guitar string. Even worse, the tank cap leak came back shortly thereafter. So my question is whether the tank vent system is the only possible cause of my filler cap leak? One thing that might be important to know is that the fuel cap was stuck shut when I purchased the bike. Secondarily, as it now seems that I have created a pinhole in my vent tube, and have not had luck with finding local bike or auto body shops that want to work on fixing the tank, is there anyone on this listserv that knows of a repair shop in northern california that will or has a spare fuel tank in usable shape that they want to sell? Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Low bar brake line in the US
6
Hi all - I switched to the low bar cables for my clubman bars a while back, save the brake line. Rather than ordering a new OEM low bar line, I thought I ought switch to braided stainless. HEL in the UK have pre-manufactured ones at 56$ shipped. Imagine others have done this as well or do you all prefer the stock feel? Found a similar quality stainless a bit cheaper? Thanks
