Hi Gino looks like you just can not escape from Jon & me.Thanks for starting the new list as a contingencey plan.I had thought of doing somthing simular myself so you will get my full support. If you are going to have it as a moderated list how do you feel about Jon's suggestion of a couple of co-moderators so that there this no chance of this group finding itself in the same position as the registry

CHANGE OVER
Hi all As you will have seen from the Registry postings I have suggested Sun 29 July as the date for people to change over to this list if the Registry access problem is not solved by then.I hope this meets with your approval.I am becoming more convinced that this is the answer providing a vast majority of Registry members come over.It will at least give new people a group to join without any hassle whether Gino goes down the road of either co-moderators or an open group. screen for 2001
Hi guys, After a ride on a fantastic hot dry (NOT) day here in the UK, I give in and want a screen. I was so glad to get rid of the fairing when I changed to the dub, the quiet ride without all that noisy air spilling over the screen was just so good... BUT our summer here seems to have ended already. The question is, has anyone fitted a screen to the low bar model and found that they were riding in a bubble of still air, or does turbulent air have to come with increased protection from the elements? For the ones new to the all thing, can somebody explain in plain english ?

Hello,I've owned my W650 for over a month and have tried to join the other site, over & over and no luck there. I actually participate with a French site on the W650 and Daniel there told me about the difficulties and about this new site. Will it ever be possible to access all the past posts from the other site through this new site? From the quantity of messages, it looks like a great source of data and I'm dying to get to it !!!! Thanks to all the fans of the W650. I speak French, so if ever someone needs a translation about this very bike, let me know !!! I would like to know what is involved in removing the California fuel fumes recovery system? Would I lose my warranty from Kawa ? Bye. Thierry

Suspension
Well gang, I'm ready to report on my adventures with the W650 suspension. I started this quest about a month and a half ago and can now report on the results. Rear: I decided that I wanted to upgrade the rear shocks. I know Hagon makes some, but I'm partial to Progressive suspension so I went with them. Josh at Progressive assured me that the shocks were the same as those used on a Vulcan 750. So I ordered a set of those in the 412 Series, a midrange shock. Well, the shocks arrived and they were 12.5 inches - the W has a 13 inch shock. I decided to give them a try. First I removed the dumb chrome shields to reveal the chromed full legnth spring. Then I installed the shocks. This is a 15 minute job, unless you have 5-Stars stuff on your bike. Then it is a 1 hour job. Of course I had to lift the swingarm/wheel since the shock were shorter. Bolted everything back on. To my surprise, the bike, we me on it, is the same height as stock. I had measured the shock legnth with me on the bike before and after shock replacement and they are the same. The stock shock had more static sack than the Progressive. I was also amazed at how light the stockers were compared to the beefier Progressive. Front: Progressive could not help me with fork springs, so I went to RaceTech. I purchase their W650 spring with a .8 rate (stock is .6). They sent out instructions, the springs and 18inches of spacer material. The RT springs are three inches shorter than stock. If I followed the advice of their tech person, I would have had to have a spacer almost 8" long and use 20w oil. I have worked with RacteTech before on KLR650's and I know these guys. They are a great bunch, but their rule is "The firmer the better" I went with a 7.5 inch spacer and 10w oil. The forks have to come off to drain the oil. I put in the specified amount from the Kawi manual. The result: I'm always leery about folks who make a change, go out for a ride around the block and then run to the computer and say how great everything is. So I decided I would wait a few days and get some miles on the mods. So, after 400 miles of city, highway, interstate, and rutted dirt roads, I'm ready to say that my $270.00 were well spent. I may fiddle with the oil level, but I'd say I'm pretty close to as good as it gets. I've got a good compliant ride on the dirt roads and bumpy corners, but enough control and firmness to keep things from getting to squirrley. SO all in all, I'm very pleased. Gino

Hey guys I'm back!!

Thanks Jon and Walter, Wow, I really can't believe that things went so bad over the last few weeks. What the hell was it? Was it Doug? Was it Yahoo? AMAZING!! Anyway, I feel kinda 'at home' again. Seems like July 29 could be the big day for this list. Did I miss anything of substance over the last few weeks. I left the list about a week or so after the G_ _ Debate finished (I really didn't want to mention that again, but it was a milestone!). Glad to be back in anyway. JON, Walter sent me a copy of the message you put out the list on my behalf. I like your style - natural-born wind up artist, eh! I nearly pissed myself laughing when I read it. Don't suppose we're allowed to talk Rugby or Cricket on this list, are we? Hello everyone, and bye for now, Jeff in Aussie
