Re: In 2023 what is the best tire for our W650?
Mine had Shinko 230 road masters when I bought it, they were great so I bought them again but I don’t really love the front tire as it tracks in groves in the road. Wondering if I put on a good take off tire from my BMW1200GS and see how it feels. It’s a Shinko 705 with lots log life left ini it. Maybe it will track better and I think the adventure type tire would look good on it as I have a set of scrambler pipes on her. It’s a 110/80/19 so only marginally wider.?

Re: Odometer adjustment, possible?
Yes... There is a hall effect switch by the chain drive sprocket on the motor... it is switched every time the magnetic field is interrupted.
its easy to remove the switch, you can trip the switch by passing a metal object (screw driver) past the switch this will interrupt the magnetic field and send signal to speedometer. it will take forever doing it this way. I used an allen wrench in a dremal tool?(long end in the chuck) hold the short end near the switch and you will see the speedometer start to move, the faster the dremal tool spins the mph increases. The key on the W has to be in the on position. I had to put on 5000. miles to be able to register a low mileage out of state bike in California. Even with the speedometer showing almost 100mph it took hours to get the mileage i needed. Made a jig to hold spinning tool close to hall effect switch (wood and hose clamp.)

Re: Have you changed front Springs on the W?
Emulators, like those from Race Tech, will provide semi-adjustable rebound damping. (You have to pull the emulators out to change the damping rate). I found them useful. Whether you will or not depends on whether you’re satisfied with the OEM damping rod set-up. I wasn’t. YMMV.

Re: Have you changed front Springs on the W?
How about emulators? Are those necessary?

Re: Have you changed front Springs on the W?
Off topic but I fixed the mushy front brake I mentioned above.
This weekend I reverted to the original brake lever from an after market adjustable lever and all the freeplay disappeared.

Hi James During the 130000 miles, how often have you needed to re-shim the value tappets?? ? I have done 30,000 kilometers and not needed to replace shims yet.? Have you needed to do any other engine work during that period, since purchase? Pete?

Hello members:
Just got a 2000 W 650 with 2000 some odd miles.? Been sitting a very long time but looks great.? Went ahead and did brake jobs on front and rear, oil change and filter serviced the chain and pulled the carbs off for a cleaning in the machine of my local shop.?
It would run only on starter fluid, good sign though.? So I really do not want to put back on the stock air box set up again when I reinstall the done carb, can anyone recommend the right jetting if I choose to attempt just using pods instead and leaving the
stock air cleaner off.? Has anyone ever done it, or know anyone who successfully was able to transition these to pod filters?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.? Looking for jet size and type of pods if anyone has been successful at this.
Sincerely,
Howard

Re: Gentleman a question about my 2000 W650.
My Royal Enfield Series 2 (1969-70) Interceptors and the bone stock 1970 Triumph 650 run large diameter tubes directly from the rear of the crank case along the underside of the rear fender. These drip a white sludge just back of the rear tire after you have parked up the bikes for a while. The Series 2s now have a Mike’s XS reed valve engine breather attached to the pipe about 2-3 inches above the crankcase . No sludge drips now. After many miles on these old nails, never a problem with oily tires. Don in Niagara
