Re: Gentleman a question about my 2000 W650.

Hi James
During the 130000 miles, how often have you needed to re-shim the value tappets?? ? I have done 30,000 kilometers and not needed to replace shims yet.? Have you needed to do any other engine work during that period, since purchase?

Hi Richi,
No, the burnable hydrocarbons from the sump are sucked through the vacuum?inlets at the top of the carb ventures,?not through the carbs as such. With the standard airbox in place, expanded sump?vapor flows up to the box via a rubber pipe then through the carb air intakes. However that is not?possible with pods as alternative cleaners. Hence that delivery method,? as well as probable oil residue avoidance, as experienced by Ruari

I have over 130,000 miles on my 2000 W650, which I purchased in Oahu Hawaii new.

I have pods on it, all I did to make it run clean without the air box, was to just use the adjustment screw on the carbs to enrich the mixture.

The only problem with the pods change has been that the bike doesn't want to run in the rain.

Subject: [W650Riders] Gentleman a question about my 2000 W650.
?
Hello members:

Just got a 2000 W 650 with 2000 some odd miles.? Been sitting a very long time but looks great.? Went ahead and did brake jobs on front and rear, oil change and filter serviced the chain and pulled the carbs off for a cleaning in the machine of my local shop.? It would run only on starter fluid, good sign though.? So I really do not want to put back on the stock air box set up again when I reinstall the done carb, can anyone recommend the right jetting if I choose to attempt just using pods instead and leaving the stock air cleaner off.? Has anyone ever done it, or know anyone who successfully was able to transition these to pod filters?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.? Looking for jet size and type of pods if anyone has been successful at this.

Sincerely,

Howard
